i have an hp pavilion that fell down, now when i turn it on in order to to boot from the hard drive i need to put booting cd (windows booting disk)to boot up the hard drive or it gives me an error message (no operating system found).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had to mess about getting rid of the virus but it left residual files that were causing me even more problems. One of those files, veawi.sys, refused to go away as everytime i tried to delete it i would get a message stating that "a device attached to the system is not working" or something along that line.
Anyway, i tried to get rid of it by installing Windows XP to a USB hard drive that i have lying around so that i could use the command prompt to delete the file from the windowssystem32drivers directory. That didn't work as i would get the message "NTLDR is missing" and my Windows 7 installation wouldn't boot either as i'd get the message "Error loading operating system". To add insult to injury i found, after using the installion disc for Windows 7, that i could have just used the command prompt in the repair section of the disc which allowed me to get rid of the culprit file.
I've tried running the startup repair from the Windows 7 disc and it states that there are no errors found. For the first time in ages i'm stuck and i get the feeling that i'm going to have to reinstall Windows 7 all over again.
i recently installed Ubuntu 12 to run alongside my windows 7 home premium. I later uninstalled Ubuntu and now whenever i boot up it says missing operating system.

Just those white letters on a black screen, nothing else. I have had the computer for about a year and a half, and have not recently loaded anything new onto it.
The only thing I have found I can do is press F2 when the Asus logo pops up and this takes me to BIOS setup utility.
When I turn on my computer it comes to verifying dmi pool data and after about 10 seconds it says error loading operating system. than i restart my computer and it boots normally. it happens over and over again.

I have windows 7 install on my computer. I want to have windows xp.
Now I have shrink my hard drive so I have 2 partitions now. Ok the problem is When I boot xp I goto install on D:/ the new partition it then copies all the files to that hard drive all good so then it wants to restart which is normal.
Then When it reboots it will say error loading operating system or just nothing.
Then I cant even Run windows 7 I have to delete that partition on windows xp and then put windows 7 and repair startup and Im back on again. It has to do something with the boot loader or something because I reckon Its trying to do start windows 7 but there is xp trying to install it self. Im not sure but I think I have tried every idea.
So I tried installing Windows XP Professional alongside my existing Windows 7 Home Premium as a dual boot, but when my PC restarted following XP's text-based installation phase, I got the annoying "Error loading operating system error. I've tried:
- Using the Windows 7 Startup Recovery feature from the Windows 7 DVD, but it didn't work.
- Deleting the incomplete XP partition. That hasn't worked either.
- Using the Windows XP CD to enter Recovery Console and run fixmbr. Unfortunately it asks me to log into my Windows 7 installation using the Administrator password, which is wrong every time I enter it. So I can't do that either.
I get the "operating system missing_" error on power up of my lenovo ideacenter that is 4 weeks old. I have recently installed the net from Time-Warner on cable.. I called lenovo and the tech gave me the "press F2 while turning the power on to it". This works but why do I need to do this? What gives with it working and then it doesn't .... I have not moved, touched, jostled it or anything to it that I didn't do when it was first installed. It works fine but will this indicate a future of trouble? I have virus protection from McAfee is this not enough?

I set the boot order for each install in the bios, but still get the Missing Operating System error. Do I have to change any other settings in the bios? Why won't Windows 7 install?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, so in the process of overclocking, I rebooted my computer and then got the "Missing operating system" error. I reset the CMOS and that didn't work, in the process of trying to boot from my Windows 7 disk/Linux distro's so I can see if one of my drives crashed but nothing seems to want to boot, so I am at a loss. Also, it seems in the BIOS, some of my SATA devices aren't being recognized. That may be because I reset the CMOS but I'm not positive. I can only see one of my SSD's in the BIOS and one of my optical drives.

Using the Windows 7 DVD that came with the machine I went through the repair Windows procedure 3 times. The first time it searched for restore points of which there are none because the machine has Rollback Rx installed instead. It then restarted with no change. I went through the same process but this time it said it had repaired Windows however; restarting gave me the same missing OS message. On the 3rd attempt it displayed the restored OS as being on D:. I ran the diagnostic tool and it said no errors were found. Restarting gave the same error.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
Ran F12 to regain Operating system - long version. Says computer passes everything but there's no operating system found. Did this Twice. Tried "Operating System" CD that came w/ Studio 17 laptop. Hit option to run via CD & never got anywhere after an hour. Tried Reinstall Hardware disk that came w/ laptop. It shows Vista, but laptop came w/ Windows 7. See where it shows the system's checking things out, but never get anywhere.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop which I did not originally purchase but traded for my iPod touch. This Vaio has a Windows Vista sticker, but the man I got it from told me he installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it. He did not tell me that it was a Release Candidate version. I found that out after 2 hours of using this PC, when it suddenly restarted. After June 1 it began notifying me of the RC issue, it being expired.
So, this week I finally decided to get rid of the RC version. I purchased a new Windows 7 Ultimate package and downloaded KillDisk (Active@ Kill Disk Hard Drive Eraser. Low Level Format.) to swipe my hard drive clean. I burnt KillDisk onto a DVD and ran the program, which was successful.
Afterwards I bought a new Windows 7 Ultimate package, tried to run the DVD but it now gives me the error "Operating System Not Found".
The BIOS on this Vaio model does not have a whole lot of settings to change, so what do I do???
I am looking to upgrade my desktop from an xp to 7. System builders are very cheap which concerns me. What is the difference from a system builder and the regular version.

I desided to hook up my old hard drive and It's telling me that it's corrupt, has a virus, I believe because the mother board doesn't recognize it I think. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm been working on this problem for over a day now and now I'm stumped.I've read dozens of threads and blogs all over the internet concerning this "operating system not found" problem but none of their problems seem to be the problem that I have.My computer just got extremely laggy and froze into a BSOD (blue screen of death) before turning off and showing me the "operating system not found" message during every boot.Usually when this problem showed up, it turned out to be a hard drive failure, but when I checked my bios, it listed my hard drive as 320gb. (So I'm guessing this has nothing or little to do with my hard drive.)
Here are the things I have tried: Safe modesThe "Launch Startup Repair" (ends up with at start up background and doesn't progress any further)The "Windows Memory Diagnostic""Last Known Good configuration"I've transfered the windows 7 .iso to a bootable usb and started up the laptop it got to the Install Now window and when I press that, the window closes and it shows "setup starting" and just stays like that.The only part that seems to be working like it's supposed to is the quick start/splashtop browser option that doesn't startup anything. (It only opens a browser for internet use and no other programs).I'm guessing the next step should be to open up my laptop and see if any of the cables are loose.ut after that I don't know what else I could do.
Edit- I have just checked and now the operating system not found message doesn't show up. when I start up with regular settings, it just gets to a blue screen and restarts.
I've tried to run the Windows 7 CD to repair but it does see any operating system or recovery points, is there another way to get my computer to start up?

Here is the strange thing...if I change the boot order in the BIOS and have CDROM first and choose not to boot off of it Windows 7 loads fine. If I put HARDDISK first then I get the missing operating system message. I have tried running CHKDSK, BOOTREC and the plain old Windows repair util. None of them have worked.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer fell a couple days ago, and I had to get a new hard drive. nfortunately, my mother let my uncle who is NOT a professional install a "new" hard drive, which was actually his old one and came with Linux and not Windows. It worked fine but I wanted Windows, so he did something and installed Windows 7 from a flash drive. And it was great. Until this afternoon, when I accidentally changed the BIOS order and now I'm getting an "operating system not found" message... Is there something wrong with the hard drive (again, it isn't new) or did I just completely mess something up?
