Windows 7 Home Premium Partition Size Recommendation?
Mar 5, 2011
I don't have a windows seven OS before so I don't know the size of it and all that.
I'm going to get a Sager NP5160 soon and I plan to get WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT as 2 partitions on my 320 GB Hard Drive.1. OS partition 2. All the other stuff like programs, files, etc.Can you recommend me a good size ?I plan to use this laptop for 5+ years and no hard drive upgrade!
I have laptop with with following specs; Dell N5110core i74 Gb DDR3 ram500GB Hard isk2769mb GraphicsWhen I bought,it has only single disk drive "C" with registered Window 7 HomePremium, now I want to make partitions without format
So I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my notebook through a USB boot but I keep getting the Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. error no matter what I try. My notebook has no CD/DVD drive so I've been using a USB flash drive boot which I created using bootcamp on my macbook pro.
Here is are screenshots of where I'm stuck, disk part and details of disk 0 (HDD):
My notebook has no OS now so I'd really like to get this fixed!
I have Window 7 Home Premium Installed on My HP Pavilion Dv6 i5 Notebook. I have only 1 Partition. I want to Install another Window and thats why i want to Make Another Partition for it (I Know About Shrinking of Drive but i won't do it because it make the shrinked Partition Dynamic, Which Can not Have OS on it)SO i want to know that how can i make another Partition Without losing this Win7.Because Once i had Done that ( Shrinked) and install another OS on (Shrinked) and then My Win7 had stopped working and was getting stuck during (ScreenFlash) Tell me how can i have an Extra Partition.if i Make "System Backup" of C45GBUsed : Free400GB) {Control Panel >Back up and Restore >Create a system Backup} on External Drive. And Format Laptop and Make Fresh 50GB New Partition using (Any bootable CD).So Can i Restore that "BACKUP" on Newly created 50Gb Partition.
while installing 7 H.P. it gets to completing installation then freezes up after computer reboots a warning message appears stating windows 7 has failed to install and resume after reboot, and then the same warning message appears.
I tried the roll back installation option and a message flashes on and off to quickly to read. and Vista will not come up to start over.
I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.
When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???
Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.
Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?
Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!
I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..
Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything.
Recently ive decided that Well i should upgrade this computer. give it a bit of ..well style. But since ive upgraded to Windows 7 there has been no sound whatsoever. Ive downloaded countless driver programs which tell you what sound card you have and not one has detected it. IVE ALSO downloaded drivers for the Windows 7 version of my sound (Realtek AC97) and ran windows updates and NONE worked. ive ran the troubleshooter on the sound thing...STILL not detecting any sound card. i tried changing the audio in BIOS from auto - enabled....nothing.
I bought a notebook preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, of course, licensed. But I found it incompatible with some software. So I decided to use 32 bit.I want to format the whole drive and install 32 bit version of W7HP.
The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.
I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.
I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.
I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.
It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.
Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?
I'm preparing a fresh install of Win 7 Pro on a 2 disk system (90GB SSD and 1TB HDD). I'll be placing the OS/Apps on the SSD and Data and image restore files on HDD.Qs:1. If I allocate ~60GB for the OS/Apps partition, and actual storage of the OS/Apps is 35GB...what size partition do I need on the HDD to save this image file? I assume the compressed file will be 45-50% of original. Will I want to store multiple image files created over the course of time as apps are added and system is further optimized, and hence need a partition that is a multiple of the OS/App partition size? What do you do?2. Also, an 8GB RamDisk will serve as scratch disk space for some apps (RamDisk +) which can save an image of the session's writes upon shutdown. I plan to save this image to the 2nd HDD. Is it recommended that I save this to same partition that stores the OS/App image in Q #1 above,
I'm french and i already owns Seven Home Premium N (Full french DVD version with a key).I recently bought Seven Home Premium on Amazon UK (Full non N version, the E uropeen version). This version is entirely in English. As you can see, my english is not so good to have a full non-french system. I would like to use my own french Home Premium N to install my Premium english key.Anyone know if it it possible to enter a Premium key with a Premium N DVD ?

I found out that the partition size exceeded the roughly 200Gig (approximately or less - from running Vista on two machines). I was not sure if the maximum partition size was dependent upon the operating system or the motherboard chip-set.I ended up crashing my original ATA 133 500 gig drive on the C: partition. The drive was an ATA drive and my plan is to install a Blu-Ray / DVD RW drive. Currently I have a DVD Read Write installed and it wouldn't hurt to keep both of the optical drives on the motherboard's ATA pins. This will delegate the 500 gig Maxtor drive to a USB backup or possibly for my PS3. This leaves the 1TB drive and a couple of questions.1) I intend to partition the 1TB drive in into 2 partitions. This is to prevent the loss of the entire partition (as what happened to the ATA drive) and protecting the second partition for downloads and backups. For a reasonable price I can add another (up to 8) SATA drive[s] and rather than use them to automatically copy the other SATA, I will add additional storage.(2) The mainboard was made for compatibility with Vista (another question). Am I correct in assuming that the MSI CoreCell(tm) nForce 570 Chipset board with an AM2 AMD Athlon(tm) 64/FX/X2 Processors and 2 Gig or ram will not operate properly (true multitasking) with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) operating system. Am I better off waiting for a true i5 board?
I have installed Windows 7 as a VM in vmware player (recommended by an acquaintance) so I could then run Adobe Lightroom as a windowed application in OpenSuse, I rather stupidly (it now appears) created the VM with a 15GB drive. When working with more than a coupe of images at a time I get out of memory errors in the VM, presumably due to the lack of free space for temp files in Lightroom and swap file usage. Is there an easy way to increase the VM drive or would it be simpler to delete the VM and set it up again with a larger drive.
I would like to add a second hard drive to my hp pavilion p7-1027c desktop machine and would hate to buy a drive that is not used to its' full capacity
i have Ubuntu dual booted with windows 7 32 bit, i am running out of space on my hard drive and am not using the 100 gigabytes i partitioned of for Ubuntu, i was hoping that someone might know how to change the partition size as i cant find out how to do it.
I want to repartition my HDD which has a capacity of approximately 80 GB, but it is shown as 74.5 GB in windows disk management app. I have split the hard drive into 3 partitions of equal size each of 24.8 GB and installed windows 7 ultimate (32-bit) on one partition, and the other two are for my data (including documents, music, videos, pictures etc.). In my opinion, 24.8 GB partition is not enough for Windows 7 because it is the only OS that I use and as I install updates and service packs etc, it fills up gradually and leaving only a few GBs of free space left on the Win 7 partition.
I have a MSI K9N Platinum mainboard with 2-Gig of ram (chosen so that I can over-clock the board if I choose). I have the NVIDIA 570 Chipset with an AM2 AMD Athlon(tm) processor. I had it set up with a 128-Gig partition that I set up when I had Vista Professional (64-bit) installed. A year ago or so I upgraded to Windows 7 Home which worked out much better (even if the mainboard was pre-Windows 7). I installed a PNY Nvidia 210 video board (but am having some trouble getting the driver to work with Windows 7).
My main harddrive is a Maxtor 500-Gig ATA drive that is partitioned with 128-Gig for the C: drive which was the maximum I could use at the time with Vista Pro. I also have a 1TB SATA drive installed for data storage and another 1TB Seagate USB drive for media storage. There is also another 1TB backup drive (Maxtor) connected to my Fios Router.I am having problems with the 500-Gig ATA C: drive - bad sectors or corrupted data. I've isolated most of the data but can't remove it. I need to keep the computer up and working and have wasted enough time with the bad drive.
I want to use the SATA drive installed on the MSI mainboard. Can you tell me what the largest partition size I can have to install Windows 7 Home (assuming I can remove it from my main hard drive on this machine before or after to allow a new installation). I use the primary drive mostly for program installation although Windows 7 generally places all of the libraries on the same drive as a default. If it won't slow me down, I would like to use as much of the 1TB SATA drive as possible. Is there a maximum partition size that I need if I convert the SATA drive to replace the C: drive or boot drive?
I have sort of a special case here. I purchased my HP laptop in Thailand, and much to my chagrin it came installed with Windows 7 Home Basic. In addition, the HP store which sold me the laptop installed 4gb of RAM neglecting to tell me that the 32bit version of 7 only supported up to 3. At any rate, I am hoping to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit edition. But while there is a glut of information online about how to upgrade from Starter, there is little to nothing about Home Basic. Do I have to buy a full copy of 7 Home Premium 64 Bit? Can I buy an Anytime Upgrade that is meant for Starter and apply it to my computer?
Considering a self build project : Intel E5700 CPU 2 X 2 Gig Ram 1 TB SATA HDD. What would be the optimum partition size for the Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS
i tried to used pc disk clone x to clone my win7 to a smaller hard drive.now for some reason My Computer shows as 381 gig size instead of 682 gighere is a pic tried to make the partition a couple megs smaller to make it realize the actual size and its not working.
Had Windows 7 home premium for around 2 months on a brand new desktop. Never had a single problem with it untill today. Turned it on as normal, got to the log in screen where i click on the required user. As the pc is only used by me I only have 1 user availiable. I click on it like normal but this time i get a message saying 'The user profile service service failed the logon' 'user profile cannot be loaded'. It then refreshes the page and returns me back to the logon page and if i press enter the same thing just keeps repeating itself. Other option on this page are the shutdown/sleep/restart option and a little box in the bottom left corner called ease of access with various options, but none that seem relevant to the situation.
