I'm usually verygood with installing and redoing my computer but I'm having a slight problem with my Windows 7 Home Premium Disk when I restart my computer it won't load up it will start the Windows 7 and go into my desktop.Once I try to do it the other way my computer Frezzes up.My Mother Board is ASUS M2N -MX SE Plus, ATI Radeaon Video Card, 1.00 GB in Memory, 32 Bit System, AMD Athlon Processor 4200+ 2.20GHz.I've had this computer for maybe about 3 - 4years now with no problems with it that it just needs to be redone every month or so.The Windows 7 CD itself is scratched and it's been used on two other computer's with no problem at all and now it won't work on mine, Why?

I was attemping to restore my computer back to previous days and as it was retrieving the data and processing, I got anxious and turned it off during the restoring before it finished and when I attemped to turn the power back on, only the "starting windows" and "gateway" logos flash on and off but no start up process. Please help, I know I screwed up, but I've already tried the SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE in networking, and the "last configuration" attemps and none of them rectify the problem.

I'm trying to reinstall Windows 7 on my computer. For some reason, it works on the computer I've got right next to me, but it doesn't work on my computer. I've set the boot device to the optical drive in the BIOS configuration, and I've tried other CD's that might make things different. I've got it from America, as I've just moved to England and had it shipped over, and am trying to use a British installation disc for it. I've got the product key and everything I need and the installation discs have the stuff on it. I know this because I booted my Nana's computer from the DVD and it works.

My laptop didn't come with an OS disk. I have 56GB out of 250, and honestly I don't know where it all went. Is there any way to reinstall without a disk? I'm not too big into torrenting things like this, but if its the only way I guess I would have to.

Back when I purchased my refurbished PC from TigerDirect, I received a Windows 7 Home Premium start-up disk for Refurbished PCs. However, when I received the computer, the OS was already installed so I did not have to use the start-up disk. Currently, I am building a gaming PC and I was wondering if it is possible to use this unused disk as my OS. I do have the Product/Activation Key from my old refurbished PC. So would it be a matter of installing the OS on my new computer and putting the activation key from my old PC onto my new one? I contacted TigerDirect and they said it is possible.

I am running windows 7 64 bit home premium and for some reason 3dmark11 stopped working. The program will not open when I double click on the icon or go into my programs to open it. I uninstalled then reinstalled it and it still does not open. I do not get any error from windows at all, it just won't open. I made sure that windows firewall was allowing the program access to my system as well as making sure norton was allowing the program access to my system. I have no idea what else to check. Why would windows not give me any type of error?

I have successfully created a Windows 7 Repair Disc using the "Create a system repair disc" from Control_Panel->Backup_and_Restore
When I attempt to reboot, using the Repair Disc I have just created, everything appears to work - Loads files, Windows wavy flag, etc. however; just as I am about to get into the real stuff I receive the following message:
This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair.
This is exactly the ssame message I get if I boot from the original Window 7 DVD and elect Repair option
This is really important to me as when I use F8 during Post I do not have the options to repair the system here either and it freaks me a bit to be unable to repair the system should anything happen

I had a external hard drive that was no longer recognized by windows. I have an old(er) desktop without a hard drive sitting around so I plopped the corrupt drive into it (SATA2)
I have a bootable usb drive with the windows installation disk that I want to use to run chkdsk on the drive. When I start the computer I get the usual "windows loading files" with grey status bar then the "starting windows" splash screen. Then the screen goes black and I can hear the mechanical drive spinning in my case.
why I can't get the installation/recovery disk to fully load? I have tried booting without the hard drive connected and I am able to get to the windows 7 recovery console running. Boot order is set to boot from usb first

01May I replaced the hard drive and re-installed W7 on the new HD. Spent a couple hrs on phone w. MS to get them to reactivate my key. Once installed and activated W7 did the updates I expected it to. But eventually, it gave me error messages on some updates, which I ignored. Over the next 3 days, things would run fine, but the "shutdown" button on the start menu would always tell me it had updates. Each time I shutdown, it would say "Installing 1 of 3 updates". I would restart the comp and get the same update indicator. Eventually I ignored it.Yesterday, 21May, I decided to restart, since it hadn't been done in awhile. It shutdown fine, but when it got to the "starting windows" screen where the colored dots fly in to make the windows logo, it froze w. the red and yellow dots in mid flight. I never saw the other dots, the logo, or anything there after.
I did a hard shutdown, tried to restart, and got a choice to run window repair (recommended) or start normal. "Start normal" freezes at the above mentioned screen w. the dots. The repair option loads files and then freezes at a black screen w. "Microsoft Corporation" and a progress indicator bar that never progresses.I eventually got the comp to boot from the W7 disc and reinstalled W7. Process was smooth, everything was running well. Or so I thought. This system has never woken up from sleep mode, so in the past, I have disabled the function. Last night, I forgot to. Woke up this morning and the comp was asleep. As usual, it would not respond so I had to do a hard shutdown. I now have the same freezing issue I described earlier. Thinking I could just reload W7 again, I booted from the disk. This time it froze at the same screen w. the red and yellow dots and wouldn't progress. It won't let me have the option of reinstalling. Thinking that it might be the HD, I put in the old HD, which I had wiped clean, and it froze at the 2 dots.I put the disc into another comp and it spun up just fine, w.o freezing, so its not the disc.
Summary: Comp freezes at the 2 dot screen on the old HD which is clean, on the new HD, from the boot disc of W7, and from a burned copy of the W7 ISO boot file. Whether I boot from the HD or the discs, I freeze at the 2 dot screen when trying to start W7 normally. When I try to repair, it freezes after loading files. It also freezes while trying to boot in safe mode and from the "last known good config." Microsoft says I probably need to update my Mobo Bios, but I don't know how to do it w.o being in W7.
Mobo: Biostar A880GU3
CPU: AMD Phenom II 965
GPU: ATI HD 5770
PSU: Corsair 750w
RAM: 4GB (2x2) DDR 3
HDD: WD 320gb
OS: Win 7 Pro 64bit

I have been trying to format a partition I created on my harddrive for my laptop. I booted from a disk into a program called GParted (live CD version). I used this to format the partition I created. Then, once I had finished attempting this task, my lack of expertise in computing took it's toll. I chose the option to create a disk label on the partition. I mistook this operation for something innocuous. It gave me a warning of some sort, which I ignored since I didn't think would be a problem since the recently formatted partition would be empty. This operation took a few seconds (30 or so) and once completed the drive map above said 685 GB unallocated space (or the size of my entire hard drive). I was very scared at this point so I restarted my comp and booted to hard drive and all I get is a blank screen and a mockingly blinking cursor. Now I am trying to see what my factory recovery disk can do for me. Using the windows recovery console I have attempted to repair this. Looking at the details, it runs a few tests. then sees that there is no valid partition, and tries to repair the partition. I restart and nothing has changed. Reattempting the repair just does the same thing and doesn't have any visible affect. Although it looked bad at this point there is some good news. In the recovery console I have attempted to load drivers from the other recovery disk. When the window opens to browse the disk I am able to navigate to the other drives (that I thought were gone) and it seems that all my system and personal files are still intact. I rebooted into GParted and it seems that the original hard drive is visible again and intact. However, I still can't boot!
I do have one option that is unnattractive to me. I have considered reinstalling windows to the partition I created, then once in the OS I could backup all my files to an external device, then redo everything from scratch. However, I am concerned that in the process of installing Windows 7 that I might everything for real. Maybe someone could affirm or repair my paranoia about this? However, I don't want to do this because I have been setting up this laptop for the last 2 weeks and I really don't want to spend the next 2 weeks doing it all over again (although it wouldn't be so bad if i could recover all my downloads and personal files).

My computer was working completely fine and I went to restart it and it wouldn't go anywhere after the boot scree just a read disk error. I restored my bios settings to default and still no luck. I then put in a windows 7 disk and went to repairs and did a start up repair got a harddrive error 0x0. When I go to look in my computer when I click browse, I can see my other hard drive, but my main one is still there but and no info. When I click on it, it asks if I want to format it. There are lot of important files I cannot lose.

Now Windows 7 does not start from the new drive, I get "a disk read error occurred".Then I bootet from a Windows 7 rescue CD and used these commands without success:bootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixbootI even recovered the BCD with these commands:Bcdedit /export C:BCD_BackupBootrec /rebuildbcdI have no clue what else I could do now. The partition is marked active. The Windows 7 partition is readable from within Linux, I can see everything there. I ran chkdsk from the rescue CD with no success.

I had Windows 7 Prof. 32 Bit version installed on C. I had two more volumes D and E.So i needed one more volume therefore i shrinked the D and took 16 GB from it and made it new volume as NTFS formatted drive M. When doing it windows showed some warning that "you wont be able to boot except from your current installation" I cant remember exactly. After that the colour changed from blue to geenish yellow. When i restarted the windows logo started and the system crashes and BSOD with STOP Error : 0x0000007b (0x80786B58, 0xC000034, 0X0000000, 0X0000000)I ran diskpart Here are the results:My all 4 partition had become dynamic and i think this is the reason that windows wont boot.

I have a problem that I have seen raised in forums over the last few years, but never with a solution. After running fine ever since I installed Win7 when it first became available, WMP now will not start. I have tried running the dll from the command box as an administrator. I have tried turning it on and off in the features section of the Control Panel, and various other twists. Is this a recognized problem? Is there a reason why this occurs? (Windows update, incompatible software?)

My mother has a relatively new Dell notebook, but she did some rather stupid things with it. Nothing that I can't fix with enough time and effort, but I figure that reinstalling from scratch would yield a better result and probably take less time too. Besides, it's never a bad thing to reinstall Windows every few years anyway in my experience. However, here's the problem: my parents never bothered to order/make recovery disks. I do have a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade disk laying around though (upgrade disks contain the full OS, right?). However, the laptop itself came with Home Premium and as such, the activation key on it is also for HP.So, can I just pop in the Ultimate disk, yet enter the HP code and end up with a regular HP edition? I vaguely remember that entering an Ulltimate code while installing from a Home Premium disk results in a full fat Ultimate, but does it work the other way round?

So, how can I get my computer to ignore the external hard drive at start up and load Windows from my C drive (as it always did on my old XP machine)?
