Windows 7 Home Lost Genuine
Nov 22, 2011
Another lost genuine problem. Booted the computer and Windows suddenly isn't genuine. This is a clean install done from Vista Ultimate (done a few months ago). I tried typing the key back in, would not accept it. I tried calling Microsoft but the automated system is so horrible it could not understand my "yes" and "no". MGA Diag tool results: Code: Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0).

I had to reinstall my OS due to a hard drive failure about a month ago. When I did I used the re-installation disk that came with computer. Everything was fine until yesterday. Out of nowhere I am getting a message that my copy of Windows is not genuine. I tried system restore and used a restore point that was created right after I installed the OS. Still no good.

I am on a Gateway SX2370.I know i should try a system restore, but i have no restore points and i've had this computer since around last christmas-ish.
This is how it all went down: I was playing a game and since my internet was disconnected, i unplugged my router and replugged it.It connected, but now the windows glass color changed to complete silver.I feared the worst and tried replugging some things fully in since some were loose. My computer automatically shut off, even though nothing completely essential to keeping the system on was plugged out.I turned it back on, only to see HIM, the message of Non-Genuine windows. Here is the MSDiag:

So theres all the technical information. Also, my computer came with windows installed, so i looked that up as well. There is apparently some card on the front of my system that has the Activation code,. All i see on the Front of my computer is a small windows 7 sticker, an AMD Vision sticker, and a Quad Core sticker

Hi there, right now I have a non genuine version of Windows 7 Ultimate installed, I'm looking to replace it with a genuine copy of Windows 7 home premium. Could I do this with an upgrade disc or would I need to buy the whole OS? I'm trying to avoid paying 200$ to activate Ultimate.

MS thinks that one of my PCs is running Windows 7 that's not genuine. It is genuine - at least I bought it from Amazon and paid 141 for it so that - to me - means it's genuine. It may not be but neither Amazon nor MS will take any responsibility for it not being genuine so I've given up with them both. I think that the issue arises because of hardware changes I've made. Oh - yes, I've lost the box with the key on it too.I use this PC very little and when I first first got the black screen and messages after I installed a larger hard drive and reinstated the drive image from an Acronis backup. I stupidly forgot to reinstate the drive signature. Then it happened again when I changed the ITX motherboard.Every now and then it gives me the "black screen" treatment. I fix it by restoring a drive image and turning off Windows 7 updates. If the damned thing is told not to call home then it shouldn't should it? It seems to give me a month or two and then goes psycho on me like HAL9000!

I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.
But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again. At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found. One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn't 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn't came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard. So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then. But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below: [code]

I'm reimaging one of my home systems that I intend to use as a "sterile" system (I will visit very a very limited selection sites on it, such as banking sites). I'm considering establishing the network location as "Public" instead of "Home", rationale being this would help prevent cross infection from other computers on my home network if they get a worm or virus. I do have friends that come over and hop on my network sometimes and who knows what contamination their systems have. Is this being overly paranoid? Will it cause annoying problems for this sterile system or other systems in my home network? I don't intend to share anything on this system with other computers on my home network. Seems to me that this ought to be the recommended setting for any computer always ... you can always share files using a USB drive if you really need to. Thoughts? Again maybe I am being overly paranoid. Back in the day there used to be worms that would look for ways to hop from system to system over the network, maybe that's much much harder these days. I do have a router between the DSL modem and my home network and I do run Norton Internet Security on all my systems?

Using SLUI 3 command brings up dialog to activate Windows, but receive error "0x80070424 specified service does not exist as an installer service" once it tries to validate. Tried activating after setting selective startup to disable unnecessary startup files with no success. Cannot copy MGAdiag log. Get message hr=0x80070002.

I searched around but was unable to find a solution for my problem. I'll start from the beginning on how this all happened.
I have a dual boot system with XP/7. I resized the partitions using Gparted and after that I got an error where 7 would not load (0xC0000225). I managed to fix this by using my Windows 7 disk to recover the boot loader. However that brings me to my current issue.
I can boot to Windows 7, but after I log on it says "preparing your desktop", and after waiting longer than usual it brings me to a blue screen that says "Windows 7; Build 7600; This copy of Windows is not genuine" in the lower left corner. It does nothing from this point, it just hangs on this screen without loading the start bar or anything.
I can still access the task manager if I Ctrl, alt, del but cannot solve this genuine error. Back when I was a tech and dealt with XP errors of this nature, it would bring up an option to used a limited mode and from there you could activate it, but I'm getting nothing. Anybody have any suggestions here?

I built my computer about 6 months ago and bought windows 7 from my university. It activated fine and has worked well up until a few weeks ago. Windows started to give me warnings that it may not be genuine, my background went black, etc.I was going to reinstall ("upgrade" ) windows 7so I first uninstalled service pack 1. After doing this windows no longer gave me these warnings and everything went back to normal. I reinstalled spc 1 just to see what would happen and it started giving me the warnings againoes anyone have any idea of what is going on? Should I just upgrade/do a new install? Is it better to do one or the other?

I built this computer about a year ago and installed a legit upgrade copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (installed a friend's copy of Windows 7 just to get through the upgrade process). I've had no problems with the OS until a few days ago when I noticed one of my USB devices turned off (a PS3 controller configured with MotionJoy). Then I noticed Windows came up with several notices claiming it wasn't genuine. It was displayed in popups and in the bottom right-hand corner of my desktop.
Apparently, Microsoft Security Essentials triggered it. This wasn't the first time I've had to deal with a validation issue in a Windows PC. I usually just had to run the validation tool and be done with it. However, when I ran the tool this time, it simply took me to a screen where I could buy a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (or a new activation key?) to resolve missing security files. Obviously I'm not going to do that, but I'm running out of options other than perhaps running the Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade installer again and hoping that it returns Windows to default.
As it stands, I've tried reactivating, but it gives me an error message. I've tried running Windows Update because it seems that it stopped updating on the 21st, and that's when the latest security pack was installed. However, I get a code C0000022 error whenever I try to update. Should I just redo my upgrade installation or is there some other way to fix this?

What I think to have caused the problem is in this previous threadnyway, after doing that last fix and booting the computer the next day, I got an error saying I may be a victim of software counterfitting, followed by a black wallpaper with a not genuine message at the bottom right. I need to get it working again so I can get updates, and I've lost my Windows 7 Home Premium key which makes this all the more difficult to fix with normal tech support from Microsoft

I tried setting my computer to boot from DVD and re install windows 7 but when i do this is just ignores my windows 7 disc and goes straight to the black screen with your copy of windows 7 is not genuine. I even tried booting from a flash drive and it still wouldn't work.

I built this PC myself. It was built around 5 months ago. I installed Windows 7, and it said it was perfectly genuine and everything. I bought this on eBay from a person with 99% Positive feedback and with 2300 stars, so I'm sure it isn't pirated. Now randomly I have a black wallpaper and in the bottom right corner it says Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine. I've scanned the computer fully for viruses with AVG and Malware with Malwarebytes, and found no problems. [code]

I had a pretty bad case of the flu on this machine, horrid virus... I don't really know how I got it, I was only looking for computer equipment online when the payloads dropped. One of the sites I was at looking for a NAS device seemed a little fishy, then locked up the machine, then wham- lost aero, all non-system files on the entire drive was given the attrib +H flag, couldn't do squat b/c all resources were being taken up, etc, etc and McAfee didn't even squeak. I think the viruses must have messed with some system files, although I can't for the life of me figure it out. I did drop UAC down to nothing earlier in the day to install some unrelated (required) software: NI Labview; and a personal application (Line6 Gearbox) but that's really not pertinent. I've dealt with this kind of thing before but am really befuddled. I've got the virus pretty much wiped out/contained I think, but my remaining problem is that I cannot get genuine again. I'm a contractor, this is a company computer, and I don't need the added spotlight this will bring.... is there any way to fix this without a domain admin's help?

I built my first custom PC about 4 months ago. I bought windows 7 ultimate off Ebay, installed it, entered my product key, installed Microsoft Security Essentials and everything worked fine. At the time it said my copy of windows 7 was genuine. Now 4 months latter my computer randomly pops up with a message telling me my copy is no longer genuine. Microsoft Security Essentials is no longer running, my desktop background has turned black and in the bottom right hand corner of my screen there is a message saying
-"Windows 7
-Build 7600
-This Copy of Windows is not genuine"
As far as I can tell my copy of Windows 7 is genuine. It came with a sealed COA, a proof of License label and holographic discs.
