Windows 7 Does Not Authenticate To Windows 2000 Server?
Mar 14, 2012
I run a Windows 2000 web server. As of a day or so ago I started receiving calls from customers running Windows 7 that they cannot log into secure directories on their websites (on my Windows 2000 server). I assume this has to do with a recent update to Windows 7. Does anyone out there have any idea what happened and how I can fix it on the server end or what I can tell my customers so they can fix it on the Windows 7 eappened once before about a year ago. The problem eventually fixed itself but I don't want to rely on that happening if it is something I can fix

The wireless network at my University authenticates the user at the browser level (network appears unprotected, but once you are connected, any http request is intercepted, and the user is forwarded to a login screen where he must enter his credentials). After entering the credentials, he is automatically forwarded to the url he first attempted to access (rediurl variable)
I have valid credentials, but for several different reasons, I am trying to find a way to have my computer automatically enter this credentials for me without having to go to the login screen, and re-submit the credentials) I obviously use autocomplete, but one of the main reason I am trying to do this, is because the sessions times out every 3 hours, so if I want to remote access my desktop, I can only do within 3 hours of the last authentication. After that, the desktop is unreachable.
This authentication page has a simple form that sends the following values: http://x.x.x:8000/index.php?redirurl...ass=mypassword (auth_user and auth_pass are hidden values)
Does anyone know of a way to automatically, periodically, re-submit the credentials? Through URL, or any other way?
Have been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.
This guy does a great job at this .

Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).

After Installing Office 2000 Pro On My Lab Top With Windows 7 I Try To Open Word And Get A Error Saying No Registration Information Found The Word Shuts Down. I Installed It On My Other Lab Top With Windows 7 And It Works Fine I Deleted All Office 2010 Products.
Is MS Office 2000 compatible with Win7 32 bit? I have read that Outlook may have a problem but what about MS Word, Excel, and PP?Also, is a Win7 32 bit upgrade worthwhile (from XP) now that Win8 is in the pipeline?
I am trying to help a friend with an old Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop. Garage sale item. The logon password and system passwords are not available.I've tried several password reset programs, but they won't boot. The machine will however boot to CD.anybody know of a password reset program with bootable .iso that will work on this old machine?
I want to remotely access to my office another PC which is working on win2000. I have administrator rights of that PC and trying to connect as remotely but none. Kindly give me procedure for access. I am using win seven.
I have MS Picture it 2000 and would like to continue using it with my windows 7. I also have MS picture it 2001 and I didn't like it as much as 2000 but if I must I will use it if their are any drivers for it.
I had all my files transfered from my old desktop to a new laptop. When I tried to load Microsoft 2000, I was asked for the 25 digit product key which I typed in the required box. I assumed that finished the process. Now when I click on a file, I get the following message" required registry information is missing and this application cannot run. Please rerun setup to correct this problem".
I recently purchased an HP 2000 laptop which came with windows 8 home premium. i have been using windows 7 pro on my desktop until the unit failed so it was less expensive to buy a new laptop.
I loaded my copy of windows 7 pro and found that i can't load any of the drivers for lan, wireless etc. What can i do now?
I've installed my version of MS Office(2000 Premium) on Windows 7, and everything seems to work fine, except outlook. I get two different errors:
1)An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the WAB.DLL.
2)Unable to update public free/busy data. An error occurred while attempting to open the Windows Address Book. Unable to find the WAB.DLL
I've been searching the web, with no concrete results for 7. I've found references for everything from Win 95 up through Vista, but, not 7.As I understand it, these are included in Outlook express, which, of course isn't available in 7. Each reference it to 'reinstall OE'. 7 doesn't give you that option, as its not a native application to 7.One reference suggested copying WAB.DLL as well as WAB32.DLL to the sytem32 directory. Didn't work.
I have just installed office 2000 on a computer with windows 7. However, everytime I try to use outlook it begins with a startup wizard. Any idea how I can prevent this?
I have been using MS Office 2000 professional with Windows 7 (64 bit) and have no problems with it except the following that has cropped up a short time ago.MS Word in MS Office 2000 Professional has a function "Send to" and up to recently I could use the function to send a MS Word document via Windows Live Mail. Now however on my desktop a mail program called "Foxmail" is shown up but Windows Live Mail is missing while on my laptop no email program is shown. In both cases the "Send To" function shows as being able to send to a fax recipient or to MS Powerpoint.I use Windows Live Mail as my regular email program and would like to use it with MS word. Should it work and if so, how do I remove Foxmail and add Windows Live Mail to my Desktop and just add it to my Laptop?
My question concerns Microsoft Office 2000 and Windows 7 compatibility. Windows 7 isnt compatible with Office 2000. In a new system build with Windows 7, would a second operating system (Windows XP) on a separate partition or disc drive get around the compatibility issue?
I purchased a new laptop with windows 7 and had all my files from my old desktop transfered. I've tried to install Microsoft 2000 so I can use my files but whenever I click on a file, I get the following message, "required registry information is missingand this application cannot run. rerun setup to correct this problem". The first time around I was asked for the 25 digit product key which I did type in. Now when I re-insert disc #1 nothing happens.
