When I click on the Calculator shortcut, it pops right up on my desktop, but unless I click on the actual calculator, it doesn't accept any of my keystrokes to enter numbers. Is there a way around this?
View 5 RepliesToday I had a power cut whilst using my PC, since then certain keys don't work. These are 1-6, r and a couple of others I can't remember (sorry). The 1-6 also doesn't work from the numpad.I have tried a different keyboard and the on-screen keyboard, both give the same result.But here's the interesting part, if I login as my admin user on the same machine, all keys work fine.So it appears to be an issue with my Limited user account. I've tried changing my keyboard region settings to US, but I had the same issue. I can't perform a system restore as I don't have it running and I can't restore from my backup as I've discovered it hasn't been backing up for the last few months
One solution would be to create a new limited user account, but in the past after a re-install it takes me a couple of weeks to get my user account configured exactly the way I like it. All those minor config changes you forget about in various applications. So I'm hoping their's an easier way.Does anyone know how I can reset the keyboard key bindings for my user account, or any other suggestions. I'm at a complete loss here, never come across this before.
Booted up from standby without a problem but when I restarted I am unable to enter my password into the prompt. Is it possible a key is stuck? I say this because if I press R the system goes into a reboot, however i doubt this is the problem. Also if I try and go into safe mode i am unable to go up and down?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI've been having a few issues recently with some programs with reside within the system32 folder, as said in the title paint, notepad and calculator. Explorer is having a different issue so I'll discuss it later. The 3 programs listed are constantly crashing. Notepad and calculator are having significantly bigger issues than paint right now, however they all have the same issue. Whenever I open one of these programs, it'll either be a few letter (numbers for calculator) and it'll crash, with the generic error message "xxxx has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution". This problem happens consistently. Explorer on the other hand, is behaving oddly. Every couple days (sometimes multiple times in a day) my toolbar will not pop itself back up (I have it set to autohide). While the trace of the hidden toolbar is visible, no moving of the mouse (even when on the desktop to avoid 'always on top' programs taking priority) on the toolbar will bring it back up. This usually results in just killing explorer.exe and re-running it.

My laptop's keyboard appears to be broken. It constantly send keystrokes and at the sametime I cannot do any inputing. This prevents me from even going into setup menu (F2) at startup, and I cannot boot with another OS because of this. how I can disable the keyboard externally? I will try deleting the keyboard driver if I can manage booting into windows. EDIT: So I have uninstalled the driver nd bought an external keyboard. It worked perfectly. However somehow the computer installed the driver back and the problem came back. How would you stop the computer from reinstalling drivers by itself?

No really, it isn't.It happens on a rather clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit: one on an Intel Q6600 the other on a brand new mobile AMD Athlon laptop. I have an Ultimate 32bit version that I have not tried yet.It scares me that this is reproducible on two machines and I cannot find a meaningful relationship between the two numbers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been unable to get Windows to accept a memory upgrade. I want to increase my memory from 4Gig to 8Gig (ie 2 sticks of 2Gig, to 4 sticks of 2 Gig). Windows hangs with all 4 sticks installed, but boots normally with only 3 sticks installed ?
It seems that the BIOS is happy to accept 4 sticks x 2Gig ... but Windows hangs: With all 4 sticks installed The BIOS will boot and the Windows boot screen appears (the four star animation) ... and then the system hangs !
By a process of elimination, I have been able to deduce that none of the individual sticks, or the individual slots are faulty: I can use any combination of 3 sticks in any combination of the four available slots, and it will boot OK and show 12 Gig of memory available.
I have checked that all 4 memory sticks are identical (Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz DDR3), and I have downloaded and installed the latest BIOS ... but the problem persists.
I note that the 2 original memory sticks are labelled V.2.12 and the second pair are labelled V.3.19, but I also note that they are happy running together as long as I only use 3 sticks (any 3 sticks !). The problem only arises when I try to use all 4 !

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6) just fine recently, and through half of yesterday. I did what I normally do when I leave a friends house...I shut it down correctly using the shut down option at the start menu, then pack it into my laptop bag (has a padded sleeve it fits into) and came home. Later that evening I tried to boot it up like normal. For some reason the wireless card takes forever to load and connect, so I typically turn it on and leave it there while I do something else. When I came back the PC said it was locked, which it never usually locks, especially after only 10 minutes. I unlocked the PC and it had my options for monitors (monitor only, expanded, monitor and tv, etc). I selected the PC monitor only and tried to load things like normal. Loaded a few programs and went to send an IM and the keyboard seemed to be stuck on the g or 8 key and wouldn't allow me to stop the input unless I clicked on the desktop. I could not click back in and delete it. Attempts to do so made the screen lock and give me the monitor options again.
At this point I figured it had to be virus/malware related so I tried to reboot into safe mode with networking. I got the options to come up but it was like the up arrow was stuck and wouldn't allow me to manually control and select an option. Had to hard reboot with the power key to try again. This time it would not move at all. I have two pc's and both have tTamviewer so I opened it on both and was able to remote in and do some scans. Spybot found a few things as well as Malwarebytes and I selected remove selected. Rebooted and still having the same issue. Tried scanning using my Avast Internet Security 7 scan and let it run overnight with Malwarebytes again. Malwarebytes brought back a PUP.funmoods (which I have uninstalled in add/remove programs and, while annoying it's showing up, don't believe to be the case because that was uninstalled months ago) and I had a huge list of files in Avast that said they could not be scanned. I have tried using system restore. I do notice when Windows boots up, it shows an empty command prompt box that eventually disappears and then a second one comes up later that says:
"AMD accelerated video transcoding device initialized Copyright (c) 2012 Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. All rights Reserved."
I did recently update my graphics card (ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650) to the latest driver. I have tried rolling back the driver and still no option. I entered the command in the command prompt to run check disk at next boot but it does not run or give an error. It just seems to skip it and go straight to Windows. A friend thought it was simply the input items on my PC giving it issues because the problem wasn't happening through Teamviewer on my Dell PC, however, that started exhibiting similar problems but not on the same scale.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 Home Premium Homegroup is not accepting my settings (stuck on its own settings). I'm able to go to my Homegroup settings and CHECK the boxes for sharing video, pictures, doc.s, and music yet, When I Click save changes, it closes-out the window and when I view Settings once more.. they remain the same as before I changed them (stuck on only "Printers"). This goes for other HomeGroup Settings as well. I'v stopped and started the HomeGroup Services "Listener" and "Provider", but the Strange thing is that it is sharing those files in My HomeGroup.. just not realizing it is.. or sumthin?? Also tried Leaving HomeGroup, Rebooted, and Joined. idk, but more than likely has to do w/ the Home Premium version.. because the Ultimate edition is able to see this Home Premium Laptop as if I had my settings changed to share and stream music, etc.. the Home Premium can't see the Ultimate edition in the HomeGroup

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I reformatted my computer I backed up my music onto a separate hard drive, after the format it all got put back onto my computer again but after the move some music files refuse to accept changes to their file details i.e. changes to genre, track title, album artist etc. I have full permissions to modify files and it will allow me to make changes either in WMP or in file properties, but as soon as I set the new details it will snap back to the previous version like I'd never touched them.

Usually Ive got a message saying something along the lines of "this is a OS font" or "in use".Question:I noticed that my default calculator font is missing and was curious if anyone knows what font the calculator uses. I can access the living room PC from the bedroom PC via control panel/Network no problem
but when I try accessing the bedroom PC from the living room, I get the error message login failure: unknown username or bad password
I have tried the following:
-creating a new user account for the bedroom PC, and logging in using that account and password
-changing the advanced sharing settings in network and sharing centre to match exactly
Also, I can access when I Turn off password protected sharing but I am not sure of the security of having this setting off so I really want password protected sharing on
if i have posted inthe wrong section in apologis, I am using MSN Live 2011 When i get asked for Remote assitance my client always disconnects and then says reconnecting in 59 seconds. The end requesting it gets the pass pages etc but by the time they put it in i have dicsonnected and reconnected by which time the seesion is invalid, I have the correct ports open and also tried all the advice i can see and find online.
