Windows 7 Suddenly Is Not Genuine?

May 24, 2012

What I think to have caused the problem is in this previous threadnyway, after doing that last fix and booting the computer the next day, I got an error saying I may be a victim of software counterfitting, followed by a black wallpaper with a not genuine message at the bottom right. I need to get it working again so I can get updates, and I've lost my Windows 7 Home Premium key which makes this all the more difficult to fix with normal tech support from Microsoft

Windows 7 Suddenly Not Genuine?

Jan 13, 2013

I built this PC myself. It was built around 5 months ago. I installed Windows 7, and it said it was perfectly genuine and everything. I bought this on eBay from a person with 99% Positive feedback and with 2300 stars, so I'm sure it isn't pirated. Now randomly I have a black wallpaper and in the bottom right corner it says Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of Windows is not genuine. I've scanned the computer fully for viruses with AVG and Malware with Malwarebytes, and found no problems.
Why Is Windows 7 Suddenly Not Genuine

Jan 20, 2013

About 9 months ago I was upgrading the hardware on my PC including the hard drive. To cut to the chase, a friend of mine had a copy of the 64bit window 7 ultimate and told me to install that and buy a window key online to save some money. He said it works fine as he had done it before. So I did that, and it worked great until a couple of days ago, when I started getting all the windows not genuine boxes and signs on screen. I have tried re-entering the windows key with no luck.

New SSD, Boot Error, Windows Suddenly Not Genuine

Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated and Enabled

This weekend, I bought and installed a new SSD into my computer. I re-installed my Windows 7 (Home Premium x64 OEM) onto it, (fresh install, no migrate) and immediately formatted my mechanical HDD. I went into my BIOS and changed boot priority. (I set it to CD first, because I was re-installing from the disc, followed by my SSD.) I changed BIOS Drive positions, with my SSD as #1 and HDD as #2. On my Mobo, my SSD is plugged into SATA3 Port #1. My HDD is plugged into SATA2 Port #1. As soon as I got Windows installed, I started re-installing programs, setting up my admin account, and generally resetting my system, theme, Rainmeter, etc. Then I started getting messages that I wasnt running Genuine Windows. I clicked the Resolve Online button, and downloaded the authenticator software, which told me I needed to buy a copy of Windows. This irritated me, because I am running a key I bought legitimately, and I have the packaging and CoA. I called Tech Support. I spoke with a very helpful gentleman. He checked out my product key. He had me activate my product, which I hadnt done on my new install yet, and I got a Genuine tag to appear under the Windows Experience Rating in My Computer>Properties. He said I was good to go. Now, 48hrs later, Im getting the "Not Genuine" message again. I have a screenshot of Windows claiming to be Genuine and Not Genuine at the same time. (See Attached photo.) I have installed a lot of updates since my re-install, so I do seem to be getting those. So, although I formatted the original Mechanical HDD, I have to assume there are some residual Windows files still on it, (but I'm not finding any) because apparently Windows thinks its running on two machines now, I assume. Im also getting a strange message in my Boot process, which asks me if I want to Boot into Windows 7, or into Windows 7. A 30sec timer then appears and chooses the highlighted option, and continues to boot normally. This computer is custom built, and I purchased an OEM version of windows separately from the builder - legit, physical packaging - and I opened the packaging and installed it myself about a year ago. It has been fine until I installed the new drive this weekend.

Laptop With Windows COA Suddenly Says Windows Isn't Genuine

Dec 29, 2011

My mother-in-law gave us her laptop this year for Christmas. It's about a year old, an HP G60, and it worked fine for her before she gave it to us.

Now, seemingly out of nowhere, we're getting messages that windows 7 isn't genuine and that we might be victims of software fraud. There is a COA on the bottom of the laptop and MIL says she never got that message before, so I have no reason to doubt that the software is genuine, but for some reason MS can no longer validate it.

Windows has been re-installed, so that means we've been doing a lot of updating, and the computer was restarted immediately before the problem appeared, but I do not think it was immediately after installing a SP. I have already tried all the fixes here, but none of my settings needed to be changed. Plug and Play was already set to Not Defined, Network Service was already set to allow Full Control and Read, etc. So none of those worked.

Reinstalled Windows 7 32bit Over 64bit - Copy Not Genuine

Jan 23, 2012

I have purchased a laptop computer, it was for a 64 bit copy of windows. I was having problems getting the computer to work in our office, so after much research I determined I needed the 32bit copy of windows 7. I popped a disk for windows 32bit in the computer and it automatically started to copy the needed files to install the windows 7 32bit edition. It stored my old settings in a windows.old folder. s

So I figured this was something really cool that Windows had coded to allow someone to quickly change over to a 32 bit OS. Last week I get a message that my copy of windows is not genuine. I tried entering the code on the underside of my laptop and it stated that it was for a different copy of windows. The problem I am having is I now have a working laptop with windows 7 that has been working fine for a long time. I don't want to have to buy a new OS license.

Windows 7 64bit Suddenly Doesn't Load Anymore

Sep 20, 2011

I had my laptop running last night and I woke up this morning and my computer was frozen. It wasn't the "blue screen of death" as many mention as it was simply frozen but when I turned it back on (and continue to turn it back on) it gets stuck on "Starting Windows" without even proceeding to the Windows login screen. Next, when I launch a "system repair" it goes through the process but freezes in the blue "system repair" screen without even showing anything. Just the blue background sunshine screen and is just stuck there.

Under "Advanced Boot Options" the "Last Known Good Configuration" gives me no luck either. I then try "Safe Mode" and under "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" it freezes while "Loading Windows Files" and the last file/driver it shows is windowssystem32DRIVERSAtiPcie.sys. I have a Windows 7 64-bit boot disc but this is my small laptop which doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. I can use my USB drive if necessary but I attempted to do that but maybe there is some special way I must install it on my USB drive?? Otherwise I am completely stuck.

[SP1] Notepad Suddenly Can't Show Chinese Characters (windows 7 Pro 64bit)?

Feb 3, 2012

I'm using Windows 7 64bit Professional. It's configured for English and the System Local for non-Unicode is English (RP Philippines).I've been able to copy and past Chinese characters from Word --> Notepad -->Chrome/Firefox/IE for work (I was localizing a website) with no problems until last night. Today, when I tried to copy-paste a few chinese characters from Word, I was suddenly only seeing square boxes. I know this means that the font or app can't recognize or render the characters. My questions is WHY? and how to Fix it? It frustrates me since it was fine yesterday. I haven't installed anything new or changed any setting that I know of. Other applications still render the characters just fine. In fact, if I copy-paste a Chinese character from word to notepad (making a square), then copy the square from Notepad to Chrome, I get the Chinese character back rendered perfectly.
The only change would be a windows update KB915597 that automatically installed last night. To add insult to injury, whenever I go to Windows Update to look at my optional updates and try to search for the Chinese (simplified) LIP, it's not displayed! Even when I click "restore hidden updates". I've even tried the Windows Update Reset regkey, which deleted my Windows Update history, but the LIP's are still not there.

Windows 7 Home 64bit Suddenly Incredibly Slow - SMART Check Failure

Jul 15, 2012

I have been using my HP Pavilion g6 laptop for around a year now, and so far it has been smooth sailing. However, around a day or two ago, my computer suddenly became unbearably slow on normal mode. I would try to open google chrome and it would freeze up my computer, and even opening the start menu took an incredible amount of time. This was a sudden onset of slowness and I cannot remember if I installed any updates that may have caused this. Using even safe mode, opening the uninstall part of control panel would take ages. I have tried many things to fix this:Used SFC/scannow, caused a crash.

Used disk check on safe mode, says that I need to defrag 1% of the disk. However, It also says there is a SMART check failure. I am quite confused about this because when I looked again it said that the smart status was "good". (HP support center) Deleted temporary files Checked task manager to see if there was any processes that were taking up too much memory, it looks good normally. However, on normal mode whenever I would open chrome the CPU would spike to 60%.

Specs are:
AMD A6-3400M APU with Radeon graphics.
6gigs of RAM

'Windows Not Genuine' Message Even Though It Is Genuine

Jun 30, 2011

I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

Windows Is Not Genuine

Nov 9, 2009

I searched around but was unable to find a solution for my problem. I'll start from the beginning on how this all happened.

I have a dual boot system with XP/7. I resized the partitions using Gparted and after that I got an error where 7 would not load (0xC0000225). I managed to fix this by using my Windows 7 disk to recover the boot loader. However that brings me to my current issue.

I can boot to Windows 7, but after I log on it says "preparing your desktop", and after waiting longer than usual it brings me to a blue screen that says "Windows 7; Build 7600; This copy of Windows is not genuine" in the lower left corner. It does nothing from this point, it just hangs on this screen without loading the start bar or anything.

I can still access the task manager if I Ctrl, alt, del but cannot solve this genuine error. Back when I was a tech and dealt with XP errors of this nature, it would bring up an option to used a limited mode and from there you could activate it, but I'm getting nothing. Anybody have any suggestions here?

After doing this windows no longer gave me these warnings and everything went back to normal. Windows Claims It's Not Genuine?

Jan 30, 2012

I built this computer about a year ago and installed a legit upgrade copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (installed a friend's copy of Windows 7 just to get through the upgrade process). I've had no problems with the OS until a few days ago when I noticed one of my USB devices turned off (a PS3 controller configured with MotionJoy). Then I noticed Windows came up with several notices claiming it wasn't genuine. It was displayed in popups and in the bottom right-hand corner of my desktop.

Apparently, Microsoft Security Essentials triggered it. This wasn't the first time I've had to deal with a validation issue in a Windows PC. I usually just had to run the validation tool and be done with it. However, when I ran the tool this time, it simply took me to a screen where I could buy a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate (or a new activation key?) to resolve missing security files. Obviously I'm not going to do that, but I'm running out of options other than perhaps running the Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade installer again and hoping that it returns Windows to default.

As it stands, I've tried reactivating, but it gives me an error message. I've tried running Windows Update because it seems that it stopped updating on the 21st, and that's when the latest security pack was installed. However, I get a code C0000022 error whenever I try to update. Should I just redo my upgrade installation or is there some other way to fix this?
