Will Video Card Work In XP Mode
Apr 22, 2011
I have a video card that I want to install in my computer running Win 7 Professional. The card is only supported with xp drivers. Win 7 Professional has XP MODE where users can operate in an Xp environment. Can I use my video card in XP mode? Even if it is not the primary video card perhaps?

I take out both of my different videos cards and use internal video and it does not crash. The problem is this is my living room movie file player and the video cards make a huge difference....I also need explorer as well....now Chrome works but that is not what I want..

I have a computer that did work so I change the CPU and video card and now it don't work. The CPU is compatible with the motherboard, I check and the Video card works on another computer so does everything else. So everything works and has been tested except the new AMD 965 CPU. I can't get any video so can a bad CPU not even give you video and how likely it to get a bad CPU?

I just purchased a new video card for my old Acer M3100 that I dual boot the original Vista and Windows 7 on. I bought a new Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 610 video card to play Skyrim. Windows 7 will install the drivers with absolutely no error messages but upon rebooting they won't load and I'm stuck with basic VGA. I booted out and back to Vista and loaded them and they installed fine as well and upon rebooting into Vista they actually load! My Windows 7 install is a recent clean install because I tried upgrading to Windows 8 and didn't do a clean install and it borked itself on all my legacy hardware. Does anyone know why a clean install won't load new video card drivers but my old Vista install loads them fine? (Yet another reason not to abandon the Vista Beast, Vista is the last OS that recognizes my (2) Rio Karma MP3 Players.)I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64Bit directly from Nvidias website and installed them and still get a "No GPU detected" message when trying to run the NVidia software that comes with the drivers.
NVidia Driver Version: 306.97

PI have to use onboard sound card to have audio through HDMI output from video card. The external sound card installed is Xonar DG and it comes with SPDIF output header to be interfaced with video card. But I do not see no such header on the video card. I wonder what video card has such an interface header.

I have recently purchased Samsung RF511 notebook and I have been trying to run HD video files(mkv) and they do run but it is very laggy and stuttering occurs very often. So I looked a bit into this matter and what I have found is that the VLC player that I am using to play the video files runs of the onboard graphics card and not the nvidia 540M card that is also installed in this notebook.

I recently built a new computer (specs below) and have been having intermittent issues upon power on/restart with my monitor displaying 'Cannot Display This Video Mode' and above that 'Optimum Resolution 1920x1200 60Hz'. I may have to power off/power on the computer one or two times before the computer loads completely to windows 7 login. Other times - the computer starts completely fine. As this is a fresh build (1 week old), I have loaded all the newest drivers from the appropriate websites.I have no problem playing any games in their highest settings (SWTOR, BF3, WOW, ETC.) and have no issues with anything once I can make it to the windows login. I have been reading forum after forum to find a solution to my problem without any luck. I read that unplugging the monitor may help the issue, and the last time it gave me that video mode message, I tried that - and it worked. I am running the monitor (DELL EF248WFP in 1920x1200 resolution, 60Hz) through the DVI connector on my MSI HD 7970.
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
Intel I5-2500K
Corsair Vengeance (4x4GB)

I have new Sony CW laptop running Windows 7 (64-bit) with an Nvidia GeForce GT 230m graphics card. The tiny problem I have is that I can't adjust the video settings (colour/contrast/brightness etc.) in Windows Media Player 12 as I am used to being able to do in previous versions. I use this function all the time and it is not enough for me to simply change the global settings as I know it should be possible within Windows Media Player.I updated the Nvidia driver and downloaded the K-Lite codec pack (too complicated - didn't know which codecs to adjust) with no result. The Nvidia control panel settings are all set to 'use the video player's adjustment controls' and I have had no luck adjusting any of the options.I have read online about video overlay, but I cannot find any options for this in the Nvidia control panel, and I don't even know if that is the problem. I also looked at the Display options in the Control Panel but nothing worked.
I discovered that the Brightness/Contrast controls do work in Quicktime and KMPlayer, but I've still had no luck achieving the same with Windows Media Player 12. I downloaded the Windows 7 Codec Pack to no effect. Here is a list of the codecs installed according to the technical info on Windows Media Player:
Microsoft RLE
Microsoft Video 1
Microsoft YUV
Intel IYUV codecIYUV
Toshiba YUV Codec
Cinepak Codec by Radius
Xvid MPEG-4 Codec

I just built a new computer and first couple boot ups everything worked fine, but when I tried it the next day I got "Cannot Display Video Mode"and then after the system reset itself the screen looks all messed up with these weird vertical yellow dotted lines. I've tried reinstalling the drivers nothing works. System says Error 43 and it stopped the video card. There is no integrated video on my motherboard. After installing drivers it does the same thing before, I have tried doing clean installs.

AMD, Nvidia Expect Windows 7 to Improve Visual Experience, Boost GPU Performance - X-bit labs
Does anyone know how this works? Do we need to install something special? How can we tell it's working? Does it offer any real world benefit?

i have a question. i am running a quad screen set-up. i have been running windows 7 32-bit. with 2 video cards1 pci-e ati radeon hd 4350 now it was working great in windows 7 32-bit, but ever since i upgraded to windows 7-64 bit. its not working at 100%now i have been reading alot on this forum that alot of people have trouble getting the fx 5200 working. after trying many different drivers i finally was able to get it working. the only catch is that. i had to turn off aero and disable other aero features so it can run with better performance.but even after doing that. the ony problem i have is that videos such as in Internet. run slow seem to lag a little and worse when i put it on full screen.i figure its the card because its so old and its a pci card

I'm having trouble with CS 1.6 . The game would only run in Software Mode and whenever I try to run it in OpenGL this error message appears:The specified video mode is not supported. The game will now run in Software Mode..Mobile Intel(R) 945 Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation Pre-release VDDM1.0) is what I have. I think that maybe the problem could be that it's a Microsoft prerelease driver version or somewhat. I've tried checking on Intel's website but I've only seen either Intel 945GM or Intel 945GMS or something like that.

when I made a boot defragmentation of C:/, after 5 minutes my monitor showed up "no video imput" and got in stand-by. This was frustating: I had to wait until the system started to beep, and reboot... And second, I wanted to find some settings in the BIOS to fix this problem, I started to search, and after 3 or 4 minutes... the same thing: "no video imput", and a black screen... How can I get my monitor to work in vga mode also? Or is something else here? Some infos: I have a HP XW-4400 Workstation, it comes with pre-installed XP, but for two years I upgrade it to Windows 7 Pro. I installed all the drivers for Windows 7 from the HP site, because on my recovery CD are only the drivers for XP. Some of the Windows 7 drivers failed to install... but all that I could install, I installed. I tried to find a driver for the "on-board vga intel video driver", but nothing to find on the HP site... I already searched everywhere on the Windows 7, and I put all the settings for monitor and video to sleep "never", but with no change when it comes to boot operations. It is very risky to not see what is going on when you defragment on boot, or when you are in the BIOS settings...

Recently ran a bunch of malware / antivirus programs to get rid of a zeroaccess trojan. (malwarebytes, mcafee, cccleanter, eset, hitman). Was finally able to get rid of the viruses in the services.exe and desktop.ini files. However once they were cleaned and got everything back to normal, I'm having problems with my video card being recognized by anything. Only recognizing the Intel® and not my Nvidia gtx 560M. It's not listed on the dxdiag page, not showing up as a selectable option for The Elder Scrolls Skyrim. Was working fine a few hours ago. It's listed under device manager just not showing up anywhere else. Just wondering if getting rid of those viruses might have deleted some needed .dll or something

Really having a tough time getting advice on upgrading the power. How important is it to have more power?I have 200w; most upgrade video cards require 350w- 600w. Can I get away with what I have? If not, what are the options?

-HP Pavilion p6750z Desktop PC-AMD Athlon(TM) II 250 dual-core processor-6 GB RAM-512MB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6450 (PCIE)-Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bitSo, two weeks ago I bought a desktop PC from HP. I wiped the drive to get all their vapor ware off, installed my software and everything went fine. Windows Update recognized the hardware on my machine and downloaded and installed the appropriate drivers after the wipe. Here's the problem. My girlfriend followed suit two weeks later and asked me to do the same thing for her. Our machines were slightly different but for the most part I expected a similar experience. Except it wasn't. This time Windows Update failed to recognize the Video Card after the wipe.So now she has this nice video card sitting in her machine using a Standard VGA Adapter instead of the Radeon drivers it needs. No matter how many times I download and install the Catalyst software from ATI's site it doesn't catch. What am I doing wrong?
