I was reading this tutorial Default Operating System - Change Default Boot OS and noticed that my system has "Recovered" appended to it check this out: there is nothing else in the pulldown menu btw
Win 7 Pro x64. I've used a little app that you might know called 'IP Messenger for Win' (Open Source LAN Messenger / Chat application). It works well but with the latest version I'm getting a strange sequence of numbers appended to my Username (as per screenshot). It's not easy to get support on the product so thought I'd try here to see if someone recognises the issue and, no, it seems to have nothing to do with the 'machine name / description' - I've changed those (and back) to test. My Windows username is 'Jem' (which I've also tried changing). The rest is self explanatory - the other two users in the shot are Vista and XP.
this is so weird, I can't figure out how this started happening but now all my control panels in Windows 7 (x64) have "-OFF" or "-ON" added to the end of the description, here's a screenshot:
I have a laptop, running Win 7, that has worked fine for well over a year. All of a sudden, it won't run for more than about 10 minutes before it randomly shuts down and restarts. Here's the error log that popped up last time it did this:

This never happened before. I just had Google Chrome (5 tabs) and Microsoft Office running before this happened. Sometimes the computer freezes, but I'm getting some new RAM in soon.
Well here are the details:

I've posted on these forums about this problem before, it is one I've been truggling with for a long time.I run a game, and at some point during the game will freeze momentarily, minimize and I'll get the 'Graphics driver has failed and has recovered' error. Now, apart from the RAM and CPU, which both have been tested, every single component in my case has been replaced and tested thoroughly not just by me, but by the people in a computer store nearby who had been consulting me about the problem. They couldn't find any faults with the hardware and since it was a fresh installation of Windows 7, that didn't seem to be the problem either.Nevertheless, after a week of testing several different options they found nothing.
I've now installed a Windows XP dualboot and was surprised to see that the problem doesn't occur on XP.All hardware is completely Windows 7 approved.Does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this and how I might stop it from happening? It's a gaming rig that I invested quite a bit in, and it really feels like a waste having to stick with Dx9.
my computer keeps shutting down randomly and when i turn it back on this is the message i get:Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown Windows can check online for a solution to the problem the next time you go online.

I am receiving the message that my computer has recently recovered from an unexpected shutdown. Actually it is happening on two of my PCs that are both running Windows 7 and Office 2007. Both are aslo running Avast for virus protection. One PC was purchased about 3 months ago and the other is over 3 years old so I do not believe this is a driver issue. The problem began on both machines immediately after each received the latest updates from Microsoft although they received them on different days. These updates contained 16 patches that were mostly critical security updates and none contained driver updates. The attached dump files are from the newer of the two PCs.
I have a hp pavilion dv4 laptop, some times when I leave it for a long time,an unexpected shutdown accures .I dont know whats the problem and how could I solve thatdetailes are here[CODE]
I just recently got my new cpu and it is shutting down with this error 5+ times a day. I read through new post protocol and have uploaded a ZIP with all necessary info.
This annoying vista bug persist on my copy of Windows 7 Beta. The screen freezes, goes black, restores - starts showing choppy graphics and frequently gives me a BSOD.
My setup : AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 Gigabyte GA-M750SLI-DS4 4 Gig RAM Gigabyte GeForce 8600 GT 512Mb w SilentPipe.450W PSU, but I can replace it with a 1kW PSU at any time if needed. This error has been giving me a VERY hard time on vista, SP1 nor any patches nor file swapping didn't help - it is why I've switched to Windows7 - I couldn't get rid of it no matter what - and now it's back, are there any workarounds to this?
Alright, so this is kind of complicated. I really hope someone can help me. This weekend, I was unable to login to Windows. When it got to the login page, I got no response from my keyboard or mouse. I tried 3 system restore points, none of which worked, so I had to go with a full system recovery which returned my computer to factory settings. I use Norton 360 so I had all of my files backed up to their online storage. When I went through the computer set-up, it set up a profile for me under the name jmdunn2. When I recovered my files from Norton, it said that it restored them to the original location, but that location was now under the C:/Users/owner tab. I want to just be able to move these files into the C:/Users/jmdunn2 tab, but when I right-click, I am not given the "Move to" or "Copy to" options. It seems like they're all locked into place somehow.
I am having this problem every time that I start flashget to download files over the night.Every morning I wake up there is unexpected shutdown.I noticed when I am using flashget for a long time the memory usage going up and up and I think when it goes to 4GB there is a system shutdown.
I have been receiving the "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message and upon clicking the details I receive this information.

I am not sure if this is linked to my attempt to restrict my computers ability to sleep and/or hibernate while I am backing up my ipod to a network drive. (When it sleeps it stops the process).
My PC turns on at 6AM to get updates etc. Waking it up a couple of hours later I often find "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down". I've never actually seen the BSOD.I'm fairly obsessive about getting the latest updates and drivers.Files attached as per this notice, plus report from WhoCrashed. Well July 1st when I woke up I found that my computer restarted and said that it recovered from an unexpected error and I sent the data to Microsoft and they gave me this solution. Solve a problem with your PC. You received this message because hardware or software on your computer caused Windows to shut down unexpectedly and restart. This is a serious problem, commonly referred to as a stop error. If you've received this error more than once, we recommend that you do the following:
-Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure. - Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.
How do I find my computer manufacturer?
- Click the Start button , type msinfo32 in the search box, and then press Enter. Your computer manufacturer is listed as the System Manufacturer in the right pane of the System Information window. - Click to go online to see contact info for most computer manufacturers - Additional technical info
Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component, the error report doesn't contain enough info to tell us the specific component. It's likely that the problem is being caused by one of the following computer components:
- Random access memory (RAM) - System board - Central Processing Unit (CPU) - Power supply
How do I fix this problem on my Windows 7 desktop computer? this is what's been happening since last weekend! and I've only had my computer since the summer of 2011?
When I put a file into the recycle bin, if I have to recover it from the recycle bin, when I take it out it seems to have lost the file name information. Screen shots below.I created a file, a folder, and a second file inside the folder. url..I put the files in the recycle bin, and they retain their file names. url...When I take them out, their names turn into $RE0HPI9 and $RX5JNJA.txt, which don't represent the original file name at all. url...
About a month ago my hard-drive crashed which contained my windows 7 OS as well as all of my other files. The heads would no longer move so I could not read any of the data off the drive. I sent the drive in for recovery services and managed to get back all of my data except for 2 files that are not windows 7 related. They put the data on a new hard drive for me.Can I somehow recover my windows 7 OS and start booting from this new drive? I am actually not in possession of the new drive yet, I should be receiving it today.
I keep getting that error while playing Skyrim on my GTX 295. It's not just Skyrim, it happens with Crysis 2 VERY often, like every 20 seconds, it happens with Deus Ex, only once though, as it crashes to desktop afterwards. I have tried every possible driver combination, i updated to the latest beta driver and it still happens. I ran the program in XP compatibility, ran it in Iobit's Game Mode (which disables some services), and as Administrator mode. It still happens.I ran it windowed, and also ran it as Single GPU card (which reduced the frequency of this happening, but didn't stop it), ultimately, i ran out of ideas.Whenever i turn my computer off for 15 minutes or so, the game runs fine for 3 hours at least. My first thought was overheating, but i used EVGA Precision to measure the temperature, and it didn't go higher than 60 C when it crashed. It did, however, report a sudden spike of GPU- A usage to 100% when the error message appeared, but B remained constant.
My display goes black Frequently for about 10 seconds, then get an error that my "Display stopped responding but has recovered." is there something wrong with my video card or is it my notebook? I thought my notebook may be overheating for the exhaust was hot so I bought a chilling mat with 2 fans but getting the same problem? I did blow it out with canned air & Of Course I'm 3 mos. over the warranty & stupidly, didn't get the extended warranty...
Three days ago I found the computer safe mode with the message: Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown...and so on...Computer then would boot normally, but after a few minutes the monitor would go black. After shutting down with the button, the boot sequence would read Windows did not shut down normally...From there I got it to boot normally a couple of times, but after a few minutes a single mouse-click on something would kill the monitor again...eventually it would only boot into safe mode -- by itself. The graphics deteriorated to a more pixelated fuzzy mess, and suddenly even before the OS started it was low resolution I upgraded the driver to the latest (clean install) and last night things seemed fine. I left it on all night and this morning everything was fine and it worked great...for a few minutes. System Restore didn't help (grasping at straws here) but in Safe Mode With Networking everything seems just as it should (for safe mode, that is...). I am going to try to reset the card but I'm wondering if I'm correct in thinking it's probably the graphics card?

I deleted a video that I recorded using my webcam. It was a .wmv file. I then downloaded a program to recover it to my computer as it was deleted in my recycle bin. I was able to recover it but now I cannot open it or play it. I have tried programs that fix .wmv files and different recover programs and I have even tried recovering tthe file to a different drive.
I am having this problem where my monitor just goes blank and then a few seconds my desktop comes back as it was before. I have been getting a message sometimes after it happens saying something like the display driver failed but has now recovered. I had a more severe version of the problem just a little while ago where the monitor had gone to sleep and I could not wake it with the mouse. I actually had to reboot to make it work again. I've looked in device manager and looks ok there, This is a very new computer and has just had a fresh install a couple of days ago so I cant see it being anything major.
