i don't get why 2 gigs of my memory are being used i have 4 gigs and when i am not running anything but google chrome my laptop is using up 2.50-2.00 gigs of memory and i only have about 4 tabs open and no backgrounds programs i used one of AVG's programs to get rid of any useless programs that start up and i don't know why it is using 2 gigs when it should't

I was going to buy Windows 7 anyway, so i decided to get 64bit so i could use all of the ram on my computer (4gigs, plus my SLi video cards have 500mb or 1gig each, can't remember)
Since vista 32bit could only use 3.5 gigs
but now to my dismay it seems like i can still only use 2.5 gigs of ram
Anyone know how to fix this?
I read something about remapping ram or something but how do you do that or how can you tell if it is possible?
Can I run 64-bit Windows 7 with only 1.5 GB of RAM? The minimum system specs on Microsoft's website are 2 GB for 64-bit, but I'm not sure if that's recommended or required. I'm getting Windows 7 Professional upgrade for $30 USD, so I want to know if I can use 64-bit vs 32-bit.
I already know that none of the printers I have work with Windows 7, but that's fine. All my other hardware is covered.
I updated my XP 32 OS to windows 7 64 bit professional. Everything works fine on this upgrade. BUT when i go >start>mycmputer>right click and select properties i see 6 gigs but only 3.25 GB usable. Any way i can use the rest of those gigs. When i bought windows 7 two days ago i bought 2 stick of ram with 2 gigs each stick. so i have (2) 1 gig stick and (2) 2 gig sticks.
Like i sed my PC (Alienware was built in Dic2005) originally was made with 32 OS xp if someone can guide me on how to get my info of my mother board I will be glad to follows those steps so i can post them here and hopefully gets some help. If not I just will return the extra gigs I bought.
PS- I reinstall windows 7 from scratched but with OS 32 bit and I could see the same 6 gigs but only 3.25 gigs usable.
I am a noob at system use but from what i gather on my system monitor it says the system is using 95 to 97 percent when I am gaming. I am using windows 7 64 bit os with 4 gigs of ram
View 12 Replies View RelatedI am running windows 7 with a AMD X2 5600+ 4 GB DDR 800 and a 9800GT EE I am running windows 7 right now with 1300mb in use and 2700 free, around that. Anyway I was wondering if there is a way to speed things up by using more memory, would disabling virtual memory help? These might be stupid questions but they are worth asking for me but not someone smarter. Anyway I would like to be able to have the operating system use more ram and be able to run games better. I am running 64 bit.
If anyone has any negative comments about my system please hold off because I am excited with how cheap I put this system together, I know it's not up to date but I can put it to some good use.
500 GB seems like a lot of HD space to me. My music collection only takes up 32GB and my pics only half a gig. Im not much of a gamer so woudnt really use it for that. Im wondering if I can get any tips as to how to fill up my 500Gigs, as it seems like a real waste that im not using this space with different bits and pieces.

But will this also make every application use twice as much memory as before? Something like registers using twice as much data? With 6+ gigs, 64 bit is the only choice, but with 4 gigs I don't have a clear answer.

What is the least amount of gigs I can get away with in an SSD for Windows 7 64 bit and mobo drivers. I was thinking either a 50 or 55 gig SSD. I think Windows 7 only uses 30 some gigs of memory and drivers should only use a couple gigs.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy machine has an "ECS ELITEGROUP A780GM-A Black Series" mother board, AMD Athlon x2 6000 3.1GHz processor, four sticks of 1 Gig Crucial Ballistix 1066MHz RAM, and my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
The system only reads 3 Gigs of RAM, i have tried each slot and each stick of RAM individually and they all work.
What could be the problem?
I am using windows 7 pro. I have a 320 gig hard drive and within a 2 hour period, the available hard drive space went from 156 gigs to 53 gigs without me doing anything. I lost 100 gigs! After searching through all the files, it appears that there is 100 gigs worth of space that is not actually being used. i have done some searching and it appears that this is a windows 7 problem with no real resolution. I have emptied my recycling bin and i don't have any restore points or backups.

I have two 2gb pc26400 kingston ram which runs fine on the vista os but with windows 7 64bit ,it's running extremely slow until i remove one of the ram sticks.

machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).
I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).

I just built a new computer and started with 8GB of memory. A few weeks down the line I purchased another set of the same memory because it was on such a good deal and had great reviews (newegg). It also was working well for me, so I figured maybe more could be better.
I haven't noticed any decrease/increase in system performance except Alt-Tabbing has recently got slower. Also, Windows 7 was sitting tight on 1.3gb to 2gb of memory usage prior to the extra 8 (now 16) being added. Even when gaming, it went up to like 3gb. Now that I've added the extra it's going up to 4.5gb or better. Also, is it possible to speed up my alt-tabbing? It seems to have a good 3-4 second pause in it instead of being immediate like it was.

I recently bought 2x1GB Ram Sticks for a Dell DimensionE510It has a Pentium4 2.80Gh Processorand factory 1 GB RAMIt's currently running Windows 7 x64hen I put the new RAM sticks in the system recognizes the new memory says it has 3.0 GB of ram and runs until I start actually using to new memory, as in start running more programs simultaneously and it crashes and I get two BSOD*. View 6 Replies View RelatedTo start, I have Windows 7, on Sony Vaio laptop. I have been working on the issues with the malware removal team, but now machine looks clean, I am still having issues. When starting the computer and going to the task manager, I can watch explorer.exe start at about 18K memory usage and then grow constantly until it is running with almost all of the computer's physical memory after about seven min. I cannot get the context menu to show up after a few min by right clicking on anything. I had been experiencing "freezing" while playing Eden Eternal (an online role playing game) before that, which made me consider malware and seek help here at BleepingComputer. The freezing has ended, last time I played on that machine at least, but now there seems to be some issue with the explorer.exe taking all of the memory. I haven't been using the machine since I don't trust that there's not something running in the background that shouldn't be. In resource monitor there were "connections" that had "-" for both the name and the PID, but I don't know if that was the malware of if that's normal somehow? Issue with explorer.exe seems to be limited to only one user account, and not the other one. That is to say that if I log on one of the other accounts explorer.exe behaves normally, as far as memory usage.

Just a few days ago I've started to have an issue where after my computer is running for a couple hours all processes continually increase the amount of memory they are using until I get an out of memory error. Here is a pic of it around 75%. I have 8 gigs of ram (kingston) that before this never went above 4gigs of use, so not sure what is causing this suddenly.

My question is how much memory can this architecture actually see? its 32bit, so shouldn't it only see a max of 4? in the my computer properties, it tells me i have 8, but a bunch of programs tell me i have the 3.25.

For the past few days, my computer, which usually performs well, has started becoming very slow and freezing. When I open Task manager, I notice that the user SYSTEM always consumes a lot of memory (about 1000 MB), slowing my system down to a crawl. The guilty process is nearly always svchost.exe (service-SysMain; PID-1948;Description-Superfetch).

I have a problem at hand. Use Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on a pc with quad-core 2.4, 4gb ram, until so good, but when I go in the properties panel, my windows says I have 4gb but I can only use 3.24 gb why does not he is using it?
