Which Of These Start-up Applications Should Remove

Oct 7, 2012

I am currently deactivating several programs from my boot-list in an attempt to stop a little problem I am having.I came across a couple programs that I am not sure would be such a good idea to deactivate. My computer is an Asus G74Sx and has an Intel i7 processor, so I have no idea why there is an AMD Dual-Core Optimizer in there, I suppose I should deactivate it, but I just want to check with you lot first. The programs starting with ATK and such I assume have something to do with the functionality of my laptop, such as ACMON, i checked online and found that it controls the button which switches between high performance and all that.Would disabling these affect my computer in any major way? i.e. make it more unstable, certain laptop specific keys, such as the Fn-key losing functionality etc.? And the Win 7 DDK driver; it says something about USB 3.0 it's located under (...)Fresco Logic USB3.0 Host Controlleramd64_hostFlxHCIm.exe. My PC had one USB 3.0 port, would disabling this make it stop working? [code]

Totally Remove CTRL & Mouse Wheel Zoom From All Applications?

Feb 13, 2013

I wish to totally remove the CTRL & Mouse Wheel/Scroll facility from all applications. I am aware you can do this in some programs individually, but sadly not all have this facility. My Logitech MX Performance mouse is amazing, especially the free-wheel!! Sadly the majority of programs I use do not appreciate this feature, especially when using CTRL & C to, oh wait, your not copying, your magnifying to 300%...

Several Windows 7 Applications Hang And Never Start

Jan 16, 2013

I've searched around the internet but to no avail. Numerous Windows applications that come with the OS, such as Uninstall a Program, View Network Status, and so on will not start when I try to run them. For example, if I go into the Control Panel and select one of them, the Control Panel window freezes for a minute or two, nothing happens, and then it's back to normal again. The selected program does not start. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. The only new things I've installed are drivers for the hardware, and Skype, and Chrome. The hardware itself is presumably not causing the problem, and it's a nice system so it's not some sort of lack of processing power that's causing it. I've already tried reinstalling the entire operating system. The user account I'm on is an administrator account. Some applications such as Device Manager work just fine.

Firefox, IE & Applications Won't Start - Chrome Does

Jan 27, 2013

I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit and recently been having some issues I first noticed with firefox. Computer boots up and loads the main screen but then when I try to open firefox or IE nothing happens. some applications work fine (chrome, garmin training centre) but others will not open at all including the restore application, Itunes, msconfig and others.

The network and sharing centre icon in the tray had a blue circle over it as if it's trying to do something after 10minutes that is replaced with red cross and then after a further 5 minutes or so the red cross goes and all the things I was trying to open actually open.

If i open in safe mode with networking it is all fine and I can open everything straight off. The only new thing I have installed is nebak replicator a device that is meant to back up folders to a NAS.

I have Zone alarm anti virus and firwall latest version and that hasn't picked up anything. I have also scanned with spy bot and nothing there. attached is hijack log

Unable To Start Certain EXE Applications Error (0xc0150004)

Apr 19, 2012

I was unable to launch .exe applications that relied on the MSI installer. The solution was to go to services and start the 'windows installer service'...doing this fixed some of the issues but apparently not all of them. I still can't run Fireworks or AvastUI.exe and other apps such as Upgrade Advisor. Heck, I can't even run certain windows updates. I have a HP desktop running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. I know for a fact that there are no mal/ad/spyware on my computer.

I have ran Trojan Remover and removed all the junk that I'm sure caused the problem in the first place. Here are some windows provided solutions I have tried: I have ran all MS 'Fix-It' apps, uninstalled reinstalled my apps, went to command line ran 'msiexec /regserver'. I know windows installer is installed but its corrupted for sure. My last resort is to wipe out the OS and reinstall it.

" everytime i try to start google chrome. Other programs like games also creates error, some with different error codes like (0xc0000185).Steam has creates a different error which says " Steam.exe(main exception): Unable to load library SteamUI.dll, Win32 Error 121 "The semaphore timeout period has expired."However, some programs like internet explorer, photoshop and microsoft office would work, which i suspect is because they are 64bit softwares.

How To Permanently Remove Programs From Start Menu

May 6, 2012

How to permanently remove/ban programs from the Start Menu Recent List? (Since manually deleting them will only get them back on once the program is started again.) The sole answer gave a suggestion to "switch the feature off". This answer though useful to some is not to me. Those programs which are indeed often used are on the desktop via a shortcut. Those on the start menu, are programs not often used or perhaps only used this week, then not used for 2 months, then used again later once. Therefore, as the reader suggested, to then, after turning the feature off and"add links to the programs you do want there manually" doesn't do it since I may not want them there 'next week' nor do I like the idea of me having to manually add them and manually remove them all the time. In Windows XP there used to be a little Microsoft program called TweakUI (Power Toys) that would do exactly that--controlled which programs could go there and which could not. Considering that TweakUi was originally made for the 1st or 2nd Windows version (before Windows 95) I hesitate to use it again for Windows 7.

How To Remove Logo/picture That Comes Up At Start Of Laptop

Feb 26, 2012

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit). It's an OEM version..

I bought this laptop from a guy who was a student, and got this laptop from the university he was studying at. When the laptop starts up, a large logo/picture of this university comes up and the boot options appear at the corner of the screen, i.e. F9- Boot Device Menu and F10-ROM Based Setup.

I wish to remove this logo permanently. Also, after getting rid of this, how can I make it show a picture of my own choice?

Note: Tried attaching picture of this screen from my computer but I don't know for what reason the upload fails.

How To Remove Stubborn Start Menu Shortcuts

Jul 19, 2010

This morning I noticed that my Start Menu | All Programs list had some shortcuts that were duplicates. In other words, there were two "Free Games" shortcuts and two "1000 Free Songs" shortcuts. Clearly these were added by some program(s) that I had installed earlier.I right-clicked and deleted the first one only to find that now the second one had no file reference due to my deleting the first. Since both copies are pointing to the same file on the drive, deleting one orphaned its copy and made it impossible to delete it the same way.The result was that I had one shortcut of each that I could not delete off my Start Menu. It would come up with "Cannot find file.." and give you that "Try Again" button. Don't bother, it won't do anything.Perhaps rebooting might have refreshed the Start Menu. I don't know because I did not want to bother since I had apps running and was very busy working with them. After trying a bunch of things, I FOUND A SOLUTION! So I am sharing it here for others who may have the same problem in the future.Go to the orphaned short-cut item in your Start Menu and right-click it. Select "Move to Folder" and then select the Recycle Bin as your folder. It will move the item into the Recycle Bin and off your Start Menu. Then of course you can empty your Recycle Bin as usual.

Applications Won't Load

May 29, 2012

On some nights my computer works perfectly fine, I can surf the net without incident, open applications, play games etc and everything appears to be fine. Then there are the other nights (which are increasing in frequency) where the computer boots up fine but then I run into application after application which refuses to load - I will click on the application and the "loading" icon will appear on screen and then just stay there. The only way out is to cntrl-alt-delete and bring up task manager, but this can also then refuse to either load or - if it does - will not respond when I click on the first offending application in an attempt to close that down.I also noticed on the last few nights that when trying to start a particular game clicking on the icon would appear to have activated nothing - yet when I attempted to start it again I would get a message saying that I couldn't start the game until the one I had running had been shut down - but nothing appeared to be running. My computer was built in January of this year. I have regularly run disk cleanups etc and run virus checks at least once a week and nothing shows up.
