Im wondering whats a good way to get data from a hard drive? My current computer doesnt work and i have a 2nd HDD that ive had for a year and want to get the data from, ive booted from it and it just lagged so bad i think because of all the drivers needing to be installed into the pc for it. Should i just wait for my new computer and attach it as a secondary drive? or is there some way i can do like a data transfer without it being in a computer?
So I've been using my 64GB ssd as my windows 7 boot drive and i have a 1TB hdd as my data drive. Recently the my computer has begun to freeze up with errors like "explorer.exe" has stopped responding or "windows" has stopped responding and half of the time when i try to boot it says it cant find windows. This has lead me to believe that my ssd is dying despite being only a year old. I need to RMA my ssd but to do that i would be losing my boot drive for weeks. So I thought id try to create a system image so that i can simply put my boot drive on my hdd, but when i try to create the image it says that the image would be 711GB because its including all of my hdd (which contains all my user libraries and downloads). My question is: how do I make windows stop thinking that my hdd is a system drive so that I can create a reasonably sized image, or more generally: how can i easily move my boot drive to my hdd? Also, I've read some posts about using "easyBCD" to accomplish the latter but I'm not sure that's exactly what i need in this situation.
I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem I have with a laptop not booting into Windows 7. The booting process hangs at the point where the mouse pointer appears, just before the welcome and logon screen. I am able to get the machine to boot by using the Last Known Good boot option, but on the next boot, it reverts back to its bad behaviour.
I can boot into safe mode. But disabling all services and startup items in msconfig does not make the problem go away. I've run a Malwarebytes scan, which detected a pup called iLivid which I removed and uninstalled. I also did a Dr. Web scan, which found and removed 1 additional problem file.
I exported the same registry control set before and after rebooting like this: I looked at HKLM/Select to find the "current" set and exported it to current.reg. Then restarted, let the boot fail, restarted using Last Known Good, then exported the "failed" set to current2.reg, which was the same set (002) as the previous "current". These files are about 15k each, so I have not pasted or attached them. I'm using Windiff to compare them, but can't find a way to export a "change" file to post here. What is interesting to me is that the failed file is smaller by 4%, so stuff has been deleted.

I am getting ready to get a new cpu for my computer and I would like a recommendation for a decent cheap gaming cpu I could get around $150. Right now I'm looking at this one Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
My windows 7 computer is 2 years old. Everything works fine. But USB ports in its tower are almost saturated. So I need a reliable multiport USB hub.I have a 10-year old Targus 4-port hub. It works for most applications but it does not work with Seagate portable drives (both V2 and v3). For use with portable drives, USB must be connect to a USB port on the tower,This means that the Targu usb hub is weak. Could someone advise me reliable usb hubs which can use Seagate portable drives?
I'm on my third new router in 3 weeks. I'm using the Netgear wndr3400 right now, it seems to be pretty good but I've noticed my laptop disconnects randomly and reconnects quickly. Its not a major problem but when I'm reviewing my cameras motion recordings for the day through my network it starts to drop as low as 2mbps when I look at my Network device. I cannot find one that fully fits my needs. I've tried expensive routers and mid range but it seems like my old $50 router is all that continues to work. I keep getting routers that have the wireless drop out completely until I go reset it, or the NAT settings for the 360's will be moderate. I cannot fix the NAT for all 360's, just one (or havent found a way to fix it for all) If anyone knows of a good router that can handle this type of use please suggest one, I'm willing to spend some money if its going to work.
I am working with a patent attorney on one of my patents, and need to be able to generate a high resolution PDF output from 2D drawings I'm creating from my CAD software. I'm importing my CAD drawings into a software called Snagit, Snagit allows me to add numbering and text per patent specifications. My issue is when I output the Snagit image as a PDF file, the PDF file comes out in a much lower resolution. So I'm looking for a good, high resolution PDF file creator.
just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my second pc, all went well apart from it gets to amd data change update new data to dmi then..... stops, it wont budge, i haven't touched anything in the bios or added any new hardwear. When i reboot, same again, went into the bios and made sure i have it set to boot from hard drive first.
forum i have a question. I have a kingston 30 gb ssd i use as my windows drive, and a 750 gb wd hdd for data/game storage. I have heard that you can ghost a file on the data drive into the x86 folder so that all new installs go there and then you still recieve most of the benefits of your ssd w/o clogging it up. I have an amd based system (dont know if that matters or not)
I just want to know the purpose of using a screensaver in any operating system. Does it affect the performance of the hardware and system as a whole. Also tell me if it is advantageous to use a screensaver and in what way(s) and please cite its demerits(is any).
I have Windows 7 up-to-date, DELL computer, I mostly use the updated firefox, I have no virus or spyware, My protection is always up-to-date and I have a firewall, also I was just wondering is there a password page blocker out there for fire fox that really blocks the pages when no one can get into it at all, like I want to block sites like Mediafire, and Rapidshare so no one gets on my computer and downloads them.
Quick question. I have windows XP and have for some time now. My friends and family all tell me that 7 is the new way to go, but ive been a bit skeptical. I mostly game and use the internet, so here are my questions: should i upgrade to windows 7 or not? what are the +s and -s of doing so? is it a waste of money? should i just keep what i have?
I just got a very high end graphics card for my PC, which I'd like to try out on some games. I already know about stuff like Crysis, etc, but what other games have very good graphics and game play?
i've had this new gtx 560 (previously had gt 240) I have seen a small fps increase in games such as Call of Duty Mw3, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Team Fortress 2. However smaller games such as Payday the Heist, CSS and Magicka have increased a lot. What im asking is if I upgrade to a decent intel i3 or i5, will I see a big fps different. Also to mention in BF3, no matter how low the graphics are the resolution, i still remain with the same fps. I can play on high settings and low settings and see no fps difference. [code] I feel the fps i get at the moment is extremely low for a gtx 560 and i was worried that my q8300 was bottlenecking but when i upgraded I was not expecting to see such as huge bottleneck and low fps in games.
just bought GTA4, installed it, just to find out the max FPS i can get is 15, i can play many other games, COD4, MW2, on highest settings and have 50+ FPS, but on this i have to set it to the very very lowest settings, to get 30FPS.Ive reinstalled it a few times, updated drivers, even OC'd my CPU and RAM halfway through, to see no difference whatsoever. Also updated it with the latest patch, and still only hits 10-15 FPS.
I tried to test Windows 7 64-bit on VirtualBox 3.0.4 but Vbox told me that I need to turn hardware acceleration on in the BIOS.. I currently have a Dell M1530 Windows 7 32-bit.
1. Why isn't this on in the first place?
2. What are the pros and cons of having it enabled?

I'm posting this thread because I need help choosing it so please help me. I'm looking for one that has HDD protection (RAID1, etc). I like iomega, seagate, western digital, hp, etc. whatever brand it's ok but I need them to work with Win 7 and Win XP.
I'm looking for an alternative to the stock windows image viewer that has a good UI, the only one I found was Picasa but it doesn't have many features and I can't open more than one picture at the same time.
I just installed a AMD Phenom II x4 925 processor. I have Speedfan 4.40, is that good enough? I have it on a Arctic Silver 5 with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro 92mm heat sink and I want to monitor the temperatures as I run Prim95.
My pc configuration is not so good (core2 duo 2.2GHz, 2gb ram, NO ADDITIONAL VIDEO HARDWARE) i'm using Win 7 ultimate sp1(rating 2.7). the frame rate is not good while gaming. is there any way that i can downgrade my directX to 9.0c somehow?
A site I visit occasionally - Sport Lemon - From Bar - From Sport - Watch Live Sports Online - FromSport - recently changed names and since then the home page shows but all of the links return a "404 - Not Found" error. Tried with four browsers - Opera (2), IE9, Waterfox 16 - with caches cleared. Works fine at public library and ISP says it's ok for them. Firewall is Comodo and Java is disabled, tho it doesn't seem the site's using it. Win 7x64
I can have my internet up (chrome) and it wont be involved but any other type of window i open up if i try to move it it will snap back to the postion it has been in, if i try to scroll the scroll bar will move and snap back to where it was before, my windows will flash constantly and if i try to watch a movie my task bar will flash in and out of the full screen movie.
Those two IE8 patches from Windows Update seemed to really kill my system. I don't even use IE. I installed the patch, restarted, and my computer would not boot. Random services / processes would crash followed by WerFault crashing... I went into safe mode and system a system restore, and I thought all was good. But now, I have to continually choose to use last known good configuration from the boot options to get into windows. If I don't, it'll proceed to crash. Is there any way to make windows use the LKGC as my current config??
