i am able to turn my computer on for a few seconds but then it automatically shuts itself off after a few seconds but the thing is after letting it sit for a couple seconds it says something about how the clocks on my processor have been overclocked too high and asks if it wants me to restore them, so i do that and then the computer works fine, but then when i turn it off and turn it back on it does the exact same thing until i get that message again.i've tried manually reducing the clocks on my cpu even though they were already at stock clocks and that didnt work
system specs:
windows 7 ultimate 64bit
intel core 2 quad q6600 @ 2.4ghz standard clocks
4gb ddr2-800 ram
ati hd 4760 1gb ddr3

Computer posts, then checks hard disk RAID status (Healthy), then a white blinking cursor appears on upper left corner on black screen, and hangs there forever, UNLESS i put in a Windows bootable CD, then based on my boot priority order (CD ROM, HD) it reads the CD, then it displays "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...", for which i don't press anything, and the computer proceeds to boot Win 7 OS correctly. So basically it doesn't boot unless i just have a bootable CD in tray.

Ive had this computer for about 5 years and recently it has started to boot up really slowly
It goes through post like normal and then hangs on a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left for up to 3 mins (maybe more, i didnt actually time it) before the windows 7 splash screen comes up I rarely re-start my computer, but now when i do im always afraid that it wont start up with how long it sits at that screen
The stuff ive found in searching about it has been about computers that dont boot at all when they have this screen, so im worried that will happen to me Ive also found that it might be the MBR being damaged, but in all those cases the people with that problem have more than 1 OS installed, i only have 1 installed
I would just do the steps to repair the MBR but i want to make sure there isnt another/better solution before i do
The computer runs fine other than this problem I've never formatted it (i know i probably should after 5 years but i dont want to) I didnt know where to post this sort of thing, debugging seemed like the best choice

I recently built a new gaming computer. It runs everything smoothly, but there is one glaring problem that I cannot seem to shake. My computer will at unpredictable times halt everything (freeze) for 1-3 seconds and then resume. During this time, all sound seems to be directed to a different audio port. It seemed to start with my audio. I would plug in speakers, and then I would plug in a 3.5mm headset and it would intermittently (and rapidly) detect the headset. Looking at my realtek audio software, the input that the headset was plugged into would rapidly turn on and off. Plugged speakers into that port and it worked with no problems. The headset is not to blame because I used it with no problem on my laptop. I then suspected it was a problem since I was doing dual audio output. I downloaded the newest drivers from the ASUS site for the realtek audio manager. My computer would still do the intermittent freezing. I have read some suggestions that it may be my memory configuration. I am a programmer and not a hardware specialist, so I am unfamiliar with how a memory configuration works and how to correct this problem. I downloaded a memory qvl update from the ASUS site, and it only seemed to bring up a console window for a split second before fading out.

My first guess was that since we have an electrical instability in our home, perhaps the uneven flows of power would sometimes send a false signal to the power unit of the computer and trigger a start-up (quite often the lights in our home will briefly, and sometimes violently, wave up and down, especially at night).

I have just finshed building my computer and when I turn it on nothing displays on the monitor ! The case fans are running but theres no display. Also I noticed that when I turned it on the CPU fan would spin for a while then stop spin then spin again. I have tried to unplug the CPU fan and replug it back in and it still happens. Is it because of a faulty Mobo?

Okay, so a while ago I finished building my new Pc. It was working fine for about 3 days but then it would randomly go black and show the message, "Please select a proper boot device and press a key". Prior to this I had accidently been turning off the power to my computer (it was in a weird position, so when i stretched i would kick the cable). Could having turn off the power caused this? I only did this twiceI also tried connecting it to different sata ports and nothing

I am having a problem with a new installation of Windows 7 Home Premium. I have always liked the Hibernate feature and used it extensively when I was running Windows Vista Ultimate. Since installing Windows 7, whenever I run Hibernate the computer turns back on. When I used Hibernate in Windows Vista Ultimate I knew that the programs that I left open would be where I left off when I restarted the computer from Hibernate. Now, it just seems to turn on when it wants to. I am sure it is a setting in the Power Settings category in Control Panel. I'm just not sure how to set.

Turns out all my problems were an aged battery, according to the tech shop who reinstalled windows after some deeprooted viruses. But now my laptop won't shut down all the way, but the screen turns off. The keyboard's LEDs stay on, and the fan keeps blowing. It stayed that way for at least five minutes, between me getting a snack and coming back. I don't know if they reinstalled from the disc that shipped with the laptop or gave me a knew windows 7, but this particular issue only started when they reinstalled the OS.

As the title says, if I turn my computer off, wait for every hard drive to stop spinning, then turn my subwoofer off at the switch on the back (not stand by mode) it will turn the computer back on again...I thought it was some kind of WOL or something, but i've turned all that off and it still keeps waking it up

I thought this was a problem only when I had my monitor switched to 120hz because it turned off alot back when I had it on, so I had been playing with 60hz for a while and tried my luck turning it back to 120hz, worked for a few days but now it seems it cant handle it, even in 60hz. It's a newly built PC!I have checked graphics card with Furmark and no problems there, ran memtest overnight, passed tests. I cant upload any minidump files because it is empty. I've reseating heatsink[CODE]

Just got myself this (old) new computer, that I was going to use for a media center. But it randomly crashes, and i can't seem to figure out why. I formated it yesterday, so I doubt it would be a virus.Sometimes it goes black, and picture returns within a few seconds, but other times it freezes up completely. When I restart it (with the power button) I cant get pasted the BIOS screen, but if I unplug the power supply, and hit the power button a few times and then plug in the power, it starts up like normal. (does that make it a RAM issue?)Freezes have happened doing the following: Using XBMC (both in menus and while watching a video), while Internet Download Manager was running. While file transfer was running, and a few times while i wasnt at the computer.Specs:Windows 7 Ultimate x64ATI Radeon HD 5670Intel Core i3 CPU6GB RAMPhillips TV (Connected with HDMI)

My computer will randomly turn off. Only if I am using it. I can turn it on and it will sit forever, but if I use it.Shuts completely off with no warning, no error, nothing. I need to power it back on by pressing the power button. I went to CMOS and turned on restart on system failure and it does not restart. Don't think it's running hot.. at least, my gcard is only doing 48 C which is low. Idk if it's a software issue or hardware?I ran a scan of my computer using ESET NOD32 Smart Security = nothing found.

I was playing around with Task Scheduler to turn on laptop at specific time, it works great. However, while the system starts up just fine, the screen remains black until I touch the mousepad. Now that doesn't seem like a big deal, but what I was experimenting with is having the computer turn on so I could use TeamViewer app on my phone to access my desktop when I'm not home. Problem is, TeamViewer won't access desktop if screen is black and if I am not physically present, I can't tap the mousepad
