I recently purchased a Linksys AE1000 Wireless USB adapter and attempted to install it in my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system with no luck. Message stated: Disable or turn off the other wireless connection manager, but I'm using only windows to manage wireless connections. The adapter does show in Network Connections but won't enable even though it says it does. I updated to the latest Linksys driver but still no luck. Windows Diagnostic came back with a response that the driver may not be working so I tried it in a old XP notebook and it worked. Then I tested it in the same Windows 7 system in XP mode and it worked just fine again. So, I finally tested it in another Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system and that worked fine. So, I don't know why it fails on my system??

PS I noticed the Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport is acting the same way, it shows in Network connections but fails to enable?
I've been reading documentation and FAQ's from my university, Microsoft, and the web in general, and can't find a definitive answer to the following question:
Is a Windows 7 RTM key issued by MSDNAA valid per computer (you can reinstall and reactivate windows as many times you want with the same key as long as it is always on the same computer) or per installation (only one activation, and no reinstall/reactivation possible afterwards)?
If the answer is the latter, is it ok to make a partition image with a program like clonezilla to back up an activated windows system?
Whenever I search in Windows 7, I want to have the ability to open found folders in a new window. If I r-click, that option is not there. Is there a way to add this to Windows 7?
Also: When I go to 'open file location', the file's folder opens in the same window - highly annoying. In Vista, it opens in a new window. Anyway to change this behvior in Windows 7 to act like Vista, so the file opens in a new window?
I am running into an issue where I can open a window/program with my mouse however once the window is open I cannot click inside of it. The window becomes inactive. I also have noticed I cannot right click on my desktop to bring up the properties. I can right click on the window in the task bar to close it but not in the window. Since this is happening I am limited to command prompt. I ran sfc /scannow with no errors. I tried with 3 different mice. I booted the computer into safe mode with command prompt and brought up the device manager to show devices not in use, and when the device manager window opened I could click inside it! since I could use the window I uninstalled all mouse drivers, and reinstalled my microsoft wireless usb mouse driver.. while in this safe mode I changed my mouse properties to system default as I read somewhere that can reset things. Next I booted the computer in safe mode (without command prompt) and still the same thing. I was trying to do a restore point as well however my Kaspersky antivirus 2012 is preventing that as i cannot find a way to kill the program through command prompt.
I'm Running Windows 7(64bit)Each time I boot into Windows 7 Prem (64) a open window apears requesting my username at the top of the open window to specify a a program to open it?I've clicked on note pad and I get the following information that apears, each time though it requests, or looks for a program to use to open.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit .I have ticked in Folder Options to open windows in same window but it won't work, the windows are opening in new window!
I have Dell inspiron Model laptop with window 7. Whenever I install new window 7 in my laptop, first of all it works rightly, then after some days when i use window media player with other application or software, its speed gets slow and it hangs. After that it shuts down and whenever i want to start it, it starts with recovery set up. This recovery setup runs all the day but have no any effect or not start. So what would be the reason? Is it related to window & problem or hard disk problem of my laptop
We're running an Oracle application that requires the jinitiator 1.3.1.22 on the client pc. Prior to Windows7 we only had a problem that required replacing the jvm.dll file within the Jinitiator installation folder. With Windows7 64bit and/or 32bit, we're seeing where some clients can open IE9 and get the popup logon screen as expected but nothing you type will show in the logon area until you click outside of the window and then come back to it. We've noticed that unless the cursor is blinking in the logon window it will not display anything that is typed (unless you click outside the window and come back to it). However, some users can use the 32bit IE and never have a problem. Sometimes you'll get a message that Windows is changing the basic theme.
I'm thinking of replacing alt tab entirely with the 3-d version. The only downside I see is that you can't use just 1 alt-tab to quickly switch to your last active window. Is there another reason to use the old alt-tab other than personal preference?
It is quite a thumb cramper to curl under extra far to hit the windows key, but other than that I love the new feature.
Suddenly I cant scroll in any window in IE. If I just touch the scroll button then the window shudders to the end of the page. Just touching the button causes the window to shake up and down. In Google the curser in the search box moves on its own to the right. Cannot type in the box. Am using my XP machine for this post as my main Win 7 machine is unusable on the net. I have just tried rebooting so far, to no avail.
"Any know how to fix this issue? Running windows 7..Whenever I right click on a link to open in another window...the window opens at the bottom of the page...how can i configure it to open in the middle? "
k, so a few months ago i installed Windows 7 RC and windows XP in a dual-boot different partition.
2 days ago i formated my win 7 RC installation and installed Windows 7 7600, of-course after a while i realized win xp is no longer in my boot0-load anymore and i have no idea how to use EasyBCD in 7 to make xp come back, if there is a way. And i don't want to reinstall XP, that would be to easy same time i would have to reinstall a lot of programs again .
So, anyone have any idea how to repair this mess ?
My drivers all seem to be up to date and the computer used to work fine, we've tried reinstalling windows (once or twice) and the same problem still continues. Also tried replacing the C: drive with another harddrive which had Windows Ultimate on it, this worked for a while but then went back to the screen that is the problem. Safe Mode works but once I start normally it starts up but then at the end of the flashing of the windows logo it says "Not Supported" on the monitor and you cannnot start it normally. I tried Microsoft's "Fix It" help option and came up with "The current video card driver isn't compatible with the Windows Display Driver Model" The graphics card is Asus EAH5870 (ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series), Asus P7P55D Motherboard and I am also running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Every time I create a new window, if I happen to already have a window from that same program open, I have to move it back up and left to set it in the top corner of the monitor.Windows off-sets new program interfaces down and to the right. And I move it back up and left.In todays world of multi-tabs and stacking task bars to group like programs, with selectable pop-up previews of programs from the task bar, why on earth do we still have to deal with the extremely irritating mode of "new windows must offset else the user will have no idea where his old window is" mentality.
I recently pulled apart an old XP - cleaned it up (lot of dust) and junk files put extra RAM, renewed the thermal compound, and now the thing starts up with a window asking to go online and validate something that has been on it for years.
I have a 32" screen and i am sitting more to the right side of the screen. I am getting sick of turning all the time the screen to see on the left side so i want to set all windows to open on the right side of the screen and not to the left(standard). I am running windows 7.
I built my computer years ago and since then have not touched it due to having a macbook for school. I want to upgrade my computer but can't find my Window's 7 cd. If i replace the motherboard, cpu, graphics card, and ram, but keep my old hard drives will my OS still be available? My knowledge about this is slim at the moment until i brush up on everything
I just installed a program that for some reason changed my Windows 7 theme. Before, when I minimized (or opened) a program, it would "slowly" minimize (with kind of a trail left behind). Now, it "quickly" minimizes without any "smoothness". It's kind of bothering me now, and I can't figure out how to re-enable that feature. I've reset the theme back to what it was originally, but just this one feature is missing. Anyone know how to get this back?
Could someone take the time to write STEP by STEP how to copy a Homemade DVD and Burn it to a blank disk using WindowDVD Maker that came installed with windows7? I am very New at computers and am 76 Yrs old and don't understand a whole lot of this stuff, please bear with me while I learn.
Don't know if this is a Windows 7 thing or IE 9. But when I download anything, I get that little pop up bar at the bottom(first pic). Is there a way to get the old download window ?
maximize or minimize several programs such as Google chrome , Firefox or my computer window, also can't close them using close button on top right corner rather i can close them by right click on task bar and choosing close window option.it is annoying as i can't properly use my pc, don't have any great knowledge about computer.my pc details are below.OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bitProcessor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 37 Stepping 5Processor Count: 4RAM: 1911 MbGraphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics, 731 MbHard Drives: C: Total - 99990 MB, Free - 52525 MB; D: Total - 48801 MB, Free -0342 MB; E: Total - 105242 MB, Free - 62078 MB; G: Total - 51099 MB, Free - 32656 MBMotherboard: MSI, H55M-P33(MS-7636)Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials,
Lately on occasion the cmd.exe window will appear very briefly. Normally it comes and goes so fast that I cannot clearly see what is actually happening. Today it appeared and contained the words "0 files copied" which changed to "1 files copied" and then "2 files copied" before disappearing. This was the first time I could actually see what was written. About 5 minutes later it appeared very briefly again and I noticed the word "taskkill" before it disappeared.
I will be browsing or doing a lab for school and my command window opens up and closes so fast I am not sure what it is doing. It happens so fast but twice I saw what it said... 0 files copied and then 1 file copied...what the heck is my computer doing?
I have just set up a new HP laptop for a friend. In the last couple days I noticed that when right-clicking to see the detail menu, it's very small, smaller than normal. How do I enlarge that menu?
Every time I click on any particular link, whether in an email or anything else, and it normally goes to that link, I now open up a google search window. How can I fix this so that I can navigate to the link desired?
I have two situations that I am unable to explain. My Windows Peek function somehow became disabled. I right-clicked the tiny window on the lower right corner of my screen and 'Peek at Desktop' is checked and shadowed. Also, on the advanced system settings, the box to adjust for best appearance is checked. What can I do to get this peek function back? Also, I am missing the volume and power icons in the notification area. But something very strange has happened. When I look at the window to customize the notification icons, some of the icons do not correspond to their associated descriptions.
IE8 on WN7 Pro 64, Standard user, IE8 shortcut in task bar opens a session with my favorites and options as I tuned them. All is well. Now, if IE8 is not open when I click on a link in email or any other place including thumb drives WN 7 starts a new IE8 session in a freshly opened window, however no favorites and no options I set, just the options as per the first time one uses IE8. In fact I get the first use welcome screen. How do I get a link to open IE8 in a fully functional and tuned IE8 session? OBTW my IE8 version is 8.0.7601.17514.
