View 1 RepliesI had a new Word 2007 doc to print, sent it to the printer. It would not print. When I checked the status it said it was printing, so I canceled the print job, it said deleting, but never deleted the doc, it just stayed with a deleted status. I can not print anything else, but once something else gets in the queue, it won't print but I can cancel it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 32bit new install of 2 weeks. No changes that I can think of prior to the login problem. Windows boots to Ctrl Alt Del and when that is entered a Cancel button appears on the screen. when the cancel button is pressed the Ctrl Alt Del is back. I have tried the follow to fix the login issue. Remote Registry connection to create a AutoLogon by adding (DefaultName/Password/Domain) etc. That registry hack worked in that the Ctrl Alt Del window no longer came up but it then went directly to the Cancel button. Next I tried doing a restore to an earlier date by booting from a Win7 DVD. Results were NO Change. Then I tried doing a boot repair booting from the Win7 DVD. (and as the problem isn't with the boot, it is with the logon there was NO Change)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a friend with an Acer laptop, with built in system recovery(as opposed to discs for installation)...they had a virus and thought they could just repair windows with the recovery but once they realized it was going to install windows, they turned the computer off. Now when the computer starts, it goes through bios, then it goes to the windows loading screen(screen before welcome/user selection screen) and then it goes to setup is starting. I checked the directories using UBCD4WIN and everything is still intact, however I need a way to either alter startup so the setup doesn't run or a way to cancel the startup

I followed the procedure found on the web, I entered "netplwiz" and did unchecksers must enter a user name and password to use this computer". There is no password setTHere is just one user/account which is obviously also the administrator. (the Account tab shows also HomeGroupUser$, but I guess is a default option...)the point is that when I switch the pc on, I have to click on the icon of the user account in order to see the desktop. Is there any chance I can login automatically without even clicking on the user icon
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.
I'm hoping to teach Mum how to use my PC in the near future and she will only be using it for typing etc and maybe the internet. Also she only use it sometimes. shall I create a Limited User Account for her or turn on the Guest Account?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would appreciate any help identifying the cause of extremely slow log on times for a user account on our family laptop. The machine is running Windows 7 - 64-bit version, and currently has 3 users accounts 2 admin and 1 regular. The regular account has begun to experience log on times that last for minutes (The Welcome splash screen prior to log on screen), while the admin accounts have no problems. I have seen other posts regarding slow log on times, but I haven't seen those which address the issue for a specific user account.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install 64 bit Windows 7 in order to repair windows installer, So i tried an upgrade installation (as suggested in another forum) with the original cd. (Win 7 was already installed on the pc, in this way i only tryed to repair the error)The installation was going well. No problems were encounted as the program proceeded through the gathering files process. Then, a MSDOS window appeared and the installation hung-up. At the top of the box is:Adminitrator:X:$WINDOWS~BTWindowssystem32cmd.exe. Inside the box is: X:$WINDOWS~BTWindowssystem32>wpeinit. On the next line is: X:$WINDOWS~BTWindowssystem32>_ The installation has stopped. Now i can regularly use the pc if before booting that screen if i press up and down keys alternatively until i can choose to continue Windows 7 installation or start windows. In that way the pc works fine. But i would like to prevent this operation (the pc isn't mine)..how to cancel a previous pending installation of Windows 7?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently logged onto my account about 2 days ago to finish a project. The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. I went to Control Panel because I was sure I was an Administrator, but sure enough, I was set as a Standard User. I tried changing it up but it wouldn't change. I tried changing the account name also, and it wouldn't change. I could only change account picture. I can't open UAC, I click it and it blinks but nothing opens. I deleted any recent program installations,I booted in safe mode, however I was still not able to change my account,I tried activating the hidden administrator account but I received an "access denied" message,I tried creating a new account but I received the following message:"The specified account name is not valid, because account names contain the following characters: /[]":;|<>=+,?*Please type a different name."I didn't use any of those characters in the account name.I ran 2 different virus scans, and they came up with nothing,I turned the computer off, unplugged everything, and pressed the power button for 30 seconds, and rebooted, but still nothing! My roommate shares this computer with me, and her account is still an administrator. However she has traveled and I haven't been able to get hold of her yet. We share music files and the file I was trying to use is in her account.why my account was changed and how I can change it back?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend and I share my laptop. Recently I found out that he was watching porn on my computer. So I promptly confronted him, and told him to stop. Weeks later, he did it again. So I downloaded Norton's Safety Minder to prevent it. So this sneaky prick goes around and enables the guest account, and lo and behold, porn fest again. What can I do? I don't want to keep him off the admin account, because he plays games on here, but I don't want him watching porn on my laptop either. Is there a way to put parental settings on the guest account? I know you can disable it, tried that, he just re-enables it, then disables it before he gets off. I'm really frustrated about this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAlthough there isn't an interface specficially designed for it, you can actually view the progress of a volume shrink operation in Windows 7, and cancel a shrink that is in-progress, using the Disk Defragmenter tool.Volume shrink can take a long time, especially if you have a very full, or fragmented hard drive. Being able to view the shrink progress can be pretty handy!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI run Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio, and never had issues.recently I had this situation where some software doesn't run properly on my main account (admin) but only in a secondary account I had created the software is installed without problems, but then it fails to run properly as an example I have a small car speed detector which has a software to download journeys. it doesn't run as it should on the main account no matter what I try. similarly i bought a Sony Bloggie and its portable software as well as the main software that came with it don't work properly, but they do on the other account, so I (annoyingly) have to switch users, and run the software there, and then go back to my main account.I suspect some anti-virus or other stuff from my main account is "blocking" things somehow. I also had a number of instances where I get alerts like "windows cannot open this file for security reasons". I have tried to change security settings, firewall settings but nothing worked.there was a general security level that required admin status to lower, yet although I obviously am admin, windows wouldn't allow me to do.
