Wake-On-LAN Deep Freeze
Jan 27, 2012
I'm currently trying to make my computer Wake on LAN with Deep Freeze. I've followed this guide to it: Windows 7 Issues: Wake-on-Lan (WOL) for Windows 7 Made Easy! The message is getting sent from the Deep Freeze console computer, but the laptop doesn't start up from the command sent. The laptop is a ASUS k53s with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I've went over all the settings I've made, I can lock it, freeze it, restart it, shut it down etc. But I can't wake it with LAN command.

Logmein software is able to wake the computer up with On Board Wake up is disabled or enabled in BIOS.I have also Toshiba L505D.Logmein software can wake the computer up only if Wake up on LAN is enabled in BIOS.What is the difference between ASUS BIOS's On Board Wake up option and Toshiba BIOS's Wake up on LAN option? UPDATE: I found out that ASUS's Option was for diskless boot and using network hard disks as hard disks. Nothing to do with Wake up on LAN.

I installed Windows 7068 in my Asus G2s Notebook, and everything worked just fine for like 2 months. But, the 7100 version was released, and i wanted it, so i backed some important files up, and formatted my computer. The installation was fine, but, when i was restoring my files from the backup, there was a particular file that wouldn't copy.
It is Fallout 3.iso file. I tried copying it like, 10 times, and everytime i tried to copy, it would stop at 2.4gb +-. After it stopped, explorer wouldnt respond, and its process couldn't be finalized. So, the only solution was to shut down the computer. I tried many things, to see if i could solve the problem (without any sucess)
-Gave full permission to the Folder and Hard Drive
-Tried to copy the file inside the HD and copy it again to my hard drive, but even copying inside the HD, it would stop at 2.4gb.
-Tried many other things, with no sucess.
Until i tried it on my mom's XP Notebook. I copied it, and on 2.4 GB it would say : Cannot copy Fallout3.iso Path is too Deep
Tried everything, but none of it worked.

I just had to completely re-install Win 7 pro 64 bit and lost some of my settings. Two important ones were the quick launch option and the other was the "deep" administrator privileges. Can some one out there tell me how to regain those two options?

I'm wondering if anyone else has had the following issue with USB connected external drive and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit:
When plugged in, the external drive is recognized by the OS, is accessible and in every aspect functions normally. After a period of non-use of the computer, e.g. 8 hours, the USB device gets knocked out. Logging back to Windows, and the 1st message will be "Unrecognized USB device", and the external drive is not visible anymore.
The only way to get the device back is to disconnect its power supply, and plug it back in.
I've done the following :
1) Changed the USB power settings of the OS. USB devices are not allowed to go to sleep
2) Changed the power setting from Seagate Manager to not allow the drive to go to sleep
3) Changed USB Legacy to Enabled on BIOS

As i've mentioned in the title my Realtek Network connector is missing and Windows 7 cant locate it.This happened after my computer went into sleep mode for some odd reason. And whenever i try to re-install my driver it says:
"The RealTek Network Adapter/Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable".
So how can I get it back? So far I've tried:
-Removing my RAM for 10 mins and after that for another 1 hour
-Resetting CMOS from Motherboard
-Re-Installing Windows.
My Motherboard's model is : GIGABYTE GA-H61M-S2V-B3 with 1 x Realtek RTL8111E chip (10/100/1000 Mbit).

Just a quick note i know there is another post about this but i have a problem and i cannot manage to fix it with the solutions from the other one.So here's some info.Yesterday for some very odd reason instead of shutting down my comp went into "sleep" mode. And today my internet didnt manage to connect. After some time it turned out i got my Realtek network controller missing (along with network dirvers ofc).So i took my driver setup file and installed it.. however in the end i got the following message "The RealTek Network Adapter/Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable"So i turned on my old PC and looked for sloutions on-line.Here is what i tried so far-Removed my RAM (first time for around 10 mins ; second time for around 1 hour)-Reseted CMOS (from motherboard)-AND RE-INSTALLED WIN 7.NONE OF WHICH WORKED.

I did a fresh Windows 7 64 bit installation and everything was going fine (besides the BSOD problems about the graphics card which I fixed by renaming nvlddmkm.sys which was the cause of the BSOD) until I tried installing the Ethernet drivers.
Specs:
Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 6000+ CPU
4GB 800 DDR2 Memory
585 Watt Power supply
XFX 8800 GTS GPU
2 Seagate Hard drives : 250 GB & 160GB
Windows doesn't even detect the adapter even though its onboard. I've tried installing the drivers from the original dvd (and in compatible and as administrator) with no luck. I also tried downloading the latest lan drivers from [URL] but it still didn't work. I got a deep sleep error or something. (Which I couldn't resolve cause there's nothing in network connections, not even the 1394 connection which is also turned on in the bios)
No it does not show in device manager under Network adapters. Actually there isn't even a network adapter subcategory unless I click show hidden devices(which has multiple devices then but no network controller). The only driver with a question mark is the graphics card driver which I will try to install after I get the Ethernet adapter working. Microsoft did say its 64 bit compatible [URL] so I don't know what to do. I did check the settings in the bios to see if everything with network was enabled and whatnot.. I also tried resetting everything in the bios to default settings with no luck.
Out of desperation tried adding the device manually through device manager (action>add Legacy hardware>manually>network adapters>have disk..) I tried this with the latest drivers I got from gigabytes website but it didn't even show a device, so I tried the original drivers from the mobo dvd which gave 3 devices.. I tried them all.. each time reinstalling the latest drivers and whatnot to no avail. I'm Thinking of trying to use the windows 64 bit repair disk seeing as it might be software related seeing as it doesn't even show the firewire adapter.

I just installed Windows 7 (64 bit) on a fresh system last night. Installation was fine, did a little web browsing, then put the machine to sleep. This morning, I go to the computer, click the mouse, and...nothing. Press a bunch of keys, nothingCutting power to the machine causes it to power up, power down, then power back up.And I have no idea what's going on.

I've spent countless hours looking for solutions on google and i can't fix it.My HTPC can go in S3 standby mode successfully. BUT the only way to wake my computer is to press the power button. When i wake it up, it starts where it was before so S3 mode is working. Problem is just waking it up.The weirdest thing is that it USED to work. Around 2 months ago i was waking up my computer with my keyboard and it worked. But i stopped to use this feature, and now that i need it, it isn't working anymore.
Oh, also wake-on-LAN isn't working neither. And it also used to be working 2 months ago. I really don't know what happenned. Here's a couple of screenshots. Sorry my windows is in french, but i'll translate the text for you:

Picture from my BIOS
Device manager -> Keyboard -> Power management
>>> Option "Allow this device to wake computer from standby mode" is checked
>>> Option "allow computer to turn off this device to save energy" is unchecked and greyed out
Device manager -> Network cards -> Realtek PCIe -> Advanced
>>> Wake on pattern match : ACTIVATED
>>> Wake on Magic Packet : ACTIVATED
Can't see it on screenshot but the option "Stop wake on LAN" is DISABLED (i also tryed to turn it on but it doesn't change anything)
"powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" tells me that my keyboard is allowed to wake my computer
"powercfg -a" tells me that S3 mode is supported, but S1 and S2 is disabled (that's normal)
Power configuration :
S1 after : Never
Allow hybrid mode : Yes
S3 mode after : 60 minutes
Allow wake timers : No
Selective USB suspension : Off
My hardware:
AMD A6-3650 APU W/ AMD Radeon 65XX HD / Socket FM1 2.6GHZ 4MB 100W

Seasonic 450w 80+Gold (fanless)
4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL DDR3-1600
Crucial M4 SSD
Solutions tryed, unsuccessfully:
- resetting BIOS/CMOS
- updating BIOS and all other drivers to latest versions
- disabling all other USB devices
- tryed every single USB slots, with and without USB hubs, usb2 instead of usb3 and vice-versa...
- tryed with two different power supplies
- tryed different keyboards
- tryed mouse instead of keyboard, LAN instead of USB...

Wake-on-lan stops working after being in sleep mode or off for an extended time (hours?). Bios is set correctly at S3, router port 9 correctly forwarded, W7 security is set correctly, and the NIC properties are set to allow magic packets to wake the machine. Everything works perfectly all the time over my LAN no matter how long the PC is off. When I send WOL remotely over the Internet it works fine in sleep mode or turned off for a while then fails. I have noticed after waking from sleep that the internet connection icon in the W7 tray indicates a loss of Internet but automatically reacquires after a few seconds. I think this is the root of mine and many other's problem. Something is shutting off the Internet connection. Because the system will wake over the LAN when this happens it proves that the bios, router, ans NIC are alive and passing the packets. My router and LAN IP addresses have not changed either. why the system would stop communication with the internet?

Title says it all. There are some things you can do from a distance using other pc's, a phone, etc, but I hate leaving my computer on. Anybody have any creative ways to be able to wake a computer up from a distance? Hibernate preferable but I understand it may be unreasonably difficult, perhaps sleep would be better? Still, sleep doesn't give the energy saving advantages as hibernation.

It's my first time posting! I've been browsing this forum and many sites on google trying to find the solution to my problem, but I can't really understand what is going on, even when taking a look at the dump file. I ran memtest, did all the usual things, but no sign of source of error to pin point. Every single time I put my laptop to sleep and keep it like that for longer amount of time (I think it's about 20 minutes) I can't get my laptop back from sleep in a normal fashion. What I mean is, that the screen never turns back off, stays completely black, my external monitor doesn't turn on either, just goes to idle mode. After reboot I get a message that there was a blue screen error and I can try to look for solution online. I read that my SSD HDD might be the cause of it, but after updating the firmware the problem persisted and after looking at my memory dumps, I found out that DirectX kernel is causing the problems, but updating it didn't yield any results, the problem persists, so perhaps I am missing something in the dumps that aren't that obvious to spot.My RAM aren't stock that came with computer, both chips 4GB each are aftermarket ones, but I have no issues with anything when using the computer except when it is waking up and MEMTEST didn't throw me any errors after an overnight pass.

I want to say 2 days ago, my computer has decided to fail when going to sleep. It is Windows 7, completely updated with no problems to that point. When it falls asleep and I wake it up, the machine starts up and is active, but my monitors and external hard drive are never turned on as they once were and the machine just sits there running with a black screen. I restart, boot back into Windows and it says resume (as if it was in hibernation, but I have hybrid sleep on) and I just get a flashing underscore and no more. I restart once again, it says Windows could not restore the session, I start a new session and all is good again... until the computer falls asleep and the process starts over.
I have tried turning off hybrid sleep. No good. I have tried using hibernation instead of sleep. Same error. I found online where someone said they had this problem with an ATI card, but once the upgraded the Catalyst Control Center and drivers, they had no problems. That did no good. The only update I've done recenly is Firefox, but I have not seen any other reports of the newest Firefox causing sleep problems. I read where someone had a problem with waking up from sleep mode because of Firefox's memory leaks and they said closing Firefox before putting it to sleep helped. It does not matter if I put it to sleep and wake it up immediately or if it goes to sleep and when I get home from work, boot it up. The same thing happens no matter the length of time.I have a dual boot with Ubuntu, but that has been on there for months with no errors and Ubuntu will sleep and wake up just fine. There have been no hardware changes or any hardware driver changes other than the video card. I tried rolling back video card drivers to see if there was a difference with no change. My ASRock MB has the most up to date BIOS that has been out for over a year. My video card is a 5770, but like I said, I've tried older and new drivers. I tried the prevx black screen fix with no luck.
