Apr 3, 2009I heard Windows 7 was to include Virtual Desktop support, like Linux. However, I can't find this anywhere.

View 6 RepliesI wanted to install Vista to do a couple of tests. I don't have any spare machines, so I thought I'd install in a virtual machine under Windows 7. Windows Boot Manager gave me his message:
"Attempting to load 64 bit application, however this cpu is not compatible with 64bit mode."
Of course my computer is ok with 64bit (my primary OS is Win 7 64 bit).
Is Microsoft VPC not compatible with 64 bit guest systems?
I only have one monitor just would like to enjoy a full desktop experience of Rainmeter, but still have space left for my icons and shortcuts in Fences. ( With-out them over lapping ) Is there an app that I can assign a hot-key to and when I press it it'd bring to an EMPTY new desktop ( where I can set up Rainmeter ) and then switch back to my original desktop?

View 3 Replies View RelatedGot a new Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit machine, found that it did not come with virtual PC. Downloaded the critical patch Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg.msu and installed it. Windows Virtual PC shows up in my Start Menu. Good so far. I go through the steps to create a virtual machine and use the option to 'use an existing vhd file' and when I click 'Create' I get the above pop-up message "Cannot attach the virtual hard disk to the virtual machine. Check values and try again". A factual message but completely useless as with all error messages from Microsoft. I have tried the following:1. When I attach that vhd using Disk Management, it mounts in drive E:, I can see the files and browse the dirs in E:. In the Disk Management View, the drive shows up as 127 Gigs but 107 is unallocated space. The physical size of the vhd is only 25 Gigs2. Others in my company were able to create the virtual machine with the same vhd, checked the byte size and timing, so nothing is wrong with the vhd file itself.
3. Tried to create after shutting down all virus protection including the Micorsoft antimalware protection service. No luck4. Tried Vhd resize to resize the vhd to a smaller size (since it showed up in disk management as 127 Gigs, I thought maybe it was that size), but VHDResizer could not open the input file, gave an errors "Can only load fixed or dynamic drives"
Our office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application. If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
I am using MS Virtual PC v6.1.7600.16393.I had created a virtual machine on my system, which has been deleted now, but I have .vhd file created for that virtual machine. Now I am trying to create a new virtual machine by using the previous .vhd file.Unfortunately, when I start this newly created virtual machine, it asks to Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device.I want to retrive few of my data stored in previously created virtual machine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some questions about windows 7 OS.
1) Does windows 7 64 bit support 32 bit still?
2) Can I use windows 64 bit with 4 modules of ddr3?
3) Can windows 7 64 bit configure 32 bit memory channels?
4) Can I expect windows 7 64 bit to configure 128 bit width memory on dual channels 4 modules, or 256 bit width on dual channel 4 modules? (32 bit x 4 ddr3 modules)
5) Do I need to get a windows 7 64 bit + 32 bit OS package to use both 32 bit and 64 bit width memory configure?
7) Can windows run in 64 bit mode while use 32 bit architecture?
8) Can windows 7 64 bit be restricted to 32 bit when needed? or will I need a package that has suport for both 32 bit and 64 bit?
I'm asking because most all games I check on play with 32 bit os and only need 64 bit for DX11 graphics. I think one OS that can run both 32 and 64 bit with a click or switch users could be what I am looking for.
Windows 7 came with no A2DP support and MS asked bluetooth hardware manufacturer to add this feature in driver upgrade. All bluetooth hardware on laptop where most of the time we need A2DP are made by Broadcomm (widcomm software), Toshiba or CSR. The last 2 manufacturer seem to have A2DP in Vista which should work in W7 but for Broadcomm nothing around.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI boght a soeaker 5.1 channel and I found later after 3 weeks of trying to connect it with my win 7-64 is there was no SPDIF port. However, I will post pic for my pc and my TV and the speaker so you can tell me how I connect them and if I need to buy adapterThis is my TV it is Sceptre 32 LEDI am using HDMI Now this is my Speaker from Acoustic AA 5102This came with bad manual, it is only says were it is says DVD audio input, I should connect it to my DVD. I do not have DVD, and also for the two top AUX input its says that for PC. This is my PC, I am using gig 990fxa-ud5 and it is supporting 5.1
For now I want to say some thing, when I use this caple ( I have 3 oh this and i connect it ith my pc were Green and Orange and Black) from my speaker to my PC( in the speaker were its says AUX audio input L and R)I can go and set up my speaker to 5.1 so I can hear all the speaker work but, they all the same I dont feel any different. However, if I went to my PC audie settieng to check if I am using 5.1, I see I am using 2.1 but still the sounds come from all the speaker because of the speaker itself can change the audio but as I said this is not a 5.1 it is 2.1 because when I test it from my PC for 5.1 I only I can hear the right and left work. WhenI do the test and my right and left works as if the pc telling me, my speakers all of them work as if they are just right and left. So. since my speaker do not have SPDIF is there is a way to make it work ? I do not want to buy a DVD just to connect my speaker to it and then from the DVD to my TV.
I'm going to upgrade my pc hardware, pretty much all of it since it's been "a while" (try 2009 since last time).
Is there any way I can migrate my Windows 7 professional to the new PC? I would like to completely format my HDD before moving it to my new machine and then reinstall my OS on it. It is a downloaded version so I haven't got a cd but it is legit, I have got the key and it is activated. Would there be a way to deactivate the key for this pc and then reactivate it on the new one with the same key?
I have Windows 7 and for reasons of my software, I installed Windows Virtual PC, who I have use for more than a year now. Last week, technical support did some checking on the system and now, I cant get access to the virtual computer. I received a message telling me that I need to activate in BIOS this option, however, I cant get access to the BIOS either. I update BIOS, but still do not work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince the last Microsoft update, my Virtual XP mode has failed to integrate my selection of applications. I get a message saying you can shut it down and try again, but the only function I can achieve with it is to hibernate - which doesn't clear the problem.
I have searched the Microsoft Windows 7 XP Mode Help screens, but that doesn't give a fool-proof way to shut it down. (It suggests CTL+ALT+END - but that doesn't work.)
I have spent 2 hours looking through numerous indexes and still no go!
Looking for info on installing Windows 7 with a virtual DVD ROM.
Even with detailed search, lots of irrelevant stuff comes up.
Any Ideas? Is there an easy way to find stuff?
i am quite disappointed to see the lack of support for Microsoft's Virtual PC networking configurations. If there is anyone that can help me with this,I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 as primary OS installed. I have also installed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (not Windows XP Mode). Inside this virtual machine, I have installed Windows XP Professional (x86). I need to have the Windows XP connect to Windows 7 via networking. According to most threads, I need to install Microsoft Loopback Adapter in Win 7 to be able to connect the VM to Win 7. I have configured the loopback adapter (on Win 7) to use IP 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, no default gateway and DNS server addresses. On the virtual machine, I have set the LAN connection to use IP 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, no default gateway and DNS server addresses. No connection.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to setup a VPC starting with an image of my laptop but I'm having great difficultly, I'm running Windows 7 home premium x64.I started by using Acronis true image to take an image of my PC (a .tib). I then used Acronis true image to convert that to a vhd, however when trying to create a VPC using the vhd got a message that the vhd could not be attached. After some research I found that it was because the partition I imaged was 320GB and Windows Virtual PC could not handle it. Using diskpart I reduced the vhd partition size then using Vhd resizer to reduce the size. I was able to attach the vhd and start the virtual machine but received a message from Windows Boot Manager "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible", so I inserted the Windows home premium x64 DVD into the dvd drive but the virtual machine would not boot from it.
I could not do anything so I decided to start a new virtual machine and try and install windows from scratch. I created a fixed sized vhd using Windows Virtual PC, I inserted the Windows DVD into the drive and booted the virtual machine. This time virtual PC would allow me to boot from the DVD drive however I receive an error "Attempting to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU is not compatible with 64-bit mode" but this is the version of Windows I am running on my PC.I have also downloaded Securable to ensure that Windows Virtual PC will work I get a maximum bit length of 64 and Yes for both hardware D.E.P and Hardware Virtualization.
What should my virtual memory settings be for best performance?
Dell Inspiron 1545
2.3 ghz
2 gb ram
64 bit
When I go to the virtual settings it sais "minimum 16 mb, recommended 3012 mb, currently allocated 2008 mb" Right now it is System Managed Size
I will install a Windows to be used in my MacBook Air. I found a Windows 7 OEM at Amazon but I am not sure whether I can use it for installation with Boot Camp or with Parallels. Should I buy a full (and more expensive) version of Windows 7 instead?
