Video Driver From Nvidia
Jun 12, 2009
When I first installed the OS I used windows update in order to install a driver for my vid card. I am now trying to use a driver from nvidia. I go through the entire process of installation smoothly, restart, but when I go back into the device manager the same microsoft driver is there.

computer : Asus g53sx - a1The video card is an nvdia gtx 560Mi use windows 7 64-bitthe problem is.. the notebook keeps loosing the driver for this card. I turn the computer off and when i turn it on again the resolution is set to 800x600 and i can't find my VGA not even in the device manager. The notebook came with a cd that has the driver so i use it and install the driver (now it doesn't work). after rebooting it comes back to the original 1920x1280 resolution... but then it begins again... i turn it off... and quen on... back to the beginning. Now, when i try to install the driver from the cd it fails... used the resolution as an example but all the features of the card are disabled ...for example gaming or using any 3d animation program, because the onboard card cannot stand this activities.

I just installed windows 7 64-bit on my Acer laptop. It has a Nvidia Geforce 7000M video card. Windows 7 only sets it up as a generic vga card. I have tried all of the drivers I have found and none of them work. I am not able to use the dvd maker or other programs because of this. Any ideas? Cheryl

I upgraded my XP system ( IBM 8291-E2U) to Windows 7 yesterday, knowing the video adapter on my motherboard was not fully Windows 7 compliant. My HP w2207 monitor's optimal resolution is 1068 x 1050 @ 60 ghz.
The video card I am considering is an : NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card
My concern is that this may not work with my mother board which is :
*Chipset*Intel i915G/GV/GL/P/PL/i910GL
Can someone comment as to the viability of this card and give me a process to follow from install to operation -- i.e. how to disable VGA and when ?

I've got Nvidia 8400GS graphic card and its latest driver, version 306.1. after installing windows 7 on my system, the driver keeps on crashing again and again after some time, when a video is played. after a few seconds a message on the task bar occurs saying that the system has recovered.

I've installed Windows 7 (32 bits) in my computer recently. The computer is a little bit old, here are the specs:
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
2GB Ram
160 GB Hdd
NVidia Geforce FX5600 XT
I went to Nvidia's website in order to download the drivers for my graphics card but there are no drivers available for Windows 7 designed to my card. I've downloaded the latest drivers there (Forceware 96.85, compatible with Vista) and they work. However there are two problems. The first is that I notice some small delays when I'm working normally with the computer, using Aero. The second one is that I can't access nVidia's app that manages the card's options.

I am using NVidia GeForce FX 5500 256 MB RAM on my home PC. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate RC and everything worked smoothly including Aero to the highest quality where drivers were from Windows Update. Now, I got licensed Windows 7 Professional. When I update the driver from Windows Update everything works just fine until I shut down the PC and turn it on again. When I do that after OS finishes loading, screen suddenly goes blank. After like 2 minutes, system gives a blue screen and restarts. This time Windows successfully makes it to desktop saying that Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown. When the report is prepared it says something went wrong with the video card drivers. The same thing happens even if I install the latest drivers for Vista directly from nVIDIA website as there is no Windows 7 drivers for FX 5500.

I would like to know if I have to download the drivers from the Chaintech website or can I just download the drivers from the NVidia site ? I am actually looking to buy this card used but had this question about from where do I have to download the drivers from. Will the drivers from the NVidia site work if I download and install them?

Here's my setup: Nvidia video card>HDMI out to Sony Home Theater System>HDMI out to Samsung HDTV. I use this to get 5.1 LPCM surround sound for video games. It worked fine until I did a firmware update on the Sony unit. Now, the HDMI audio is greyed out in Windows 7 audio playback options. Nvidia Control Panel sees the device as audio compatible, but Windows does not.Audio DOES work if I connect a different display (through the same system). I connected an Acer computer monitor and everything worked normally. It also works it I connect it directly to the Samsung TV. The Sony unit works on its own or with the Acer monitor connected. When the monitor is connected, Nvidia Control Panel sees the home theater system as Sony AV System and Audio Playback reports SonyAVSYSTEM. When the Samsung TV is plugged in, Nvidia CP sees the home theater system as Sony Digital Display and Windows audio just says the cable is unplugged (doesn't report anything). I'm getting picture with this setup, but I can't even select the audio option.
I'm going crazy at this point, I have Sony working on it from their end and Samsung insists it's not their fault. Is this a Windows problem? I find it strange that Nvidia CP can recognize the unit and marks it as audio-capable, but Windows says a cable is unplugged. I've tried all recent driver options for both Realtek and Nvidia (Betas and stable). All drivers work the same under different connections described above. That the system works normally unless PC>Theater>TV makes me think that this is a pretty specific breakdown in communication with HDMI!date:Sony representatives got back to me with the findings from their engineers. They insist that because my PS3 works on the setup, it must be an issue with my PC. Their best guess is that the devices are failing to handshake properly over the HDMI connection.

I have recently purchased Samsung RF511 notebook and I have been trying to run HD video files(mkv) and they do run but it is very laggy and stuttering occurs very often. So I looked a bit into this matter and what I have found is that the VLC player that I am using to play the video files runs of the onboard graphics card and not the nvidia 540M card that is also installed in this notebook.

I am currently running Windows 7 RC1 and have noticed a behavioral change from XP which I would love to change.
In the NVIDIA control panel, there are 2 sets of settings for brightness:
1) Desktop color settings
2) Video color settings
In Windows XP, these would be completely independent. Thus for example, I could have my desktop dark while the videos could be bright and vivid.
Thus in XP:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Video color settings
In Windows 7, the OS only behaves this way when using Aero Basic. If I'm using the full Aero interface, I get the following behavior:
Desktop Brightness = Desktop color settings
Video Brightness = Desktop color settings + Video color settings
I would really love to have these control act independently on the full Aero interface. Is this possible? NVIDIA settings can obviously still distinguish the video because the video color settings still only apply to video, so I'm not sure why it behaves this way.

I did quite a bit of looking around and there seem to be lots of people with Nvidia problems in Win 7, however not exactly what I'm seeing.
First off when I ran the "Windows Experience Index" I get a 5.7 rating for "gaming graphics" but only a 1.0 for graphics (Areo performance)
Along with that I am noticing "slowness" with desktop and IE rendering performance. For example it takes a long time to browse to a new page (much longer than it did under vista) or to even open a new blank tab. I have also noticed slow performance with the built in games. When dealing cards for solitare, the dealing animation "stutters" and when starting mine sweeper, the animation of the board being drawn "stutters" too.
I had this behavior with the Nvidia 191.07 drivers so I decided to give the Nvidia beta 195.39 drivers a try. They too show the same problem.
Anyone have any suggestions what I can do to get things working better? Is anyone else seeing this with a similar (or different) configuration?

I've been having this issue with NVIDIA drivers for my GeForce GTX 460; the driver seems to be doing fine (screen turns black at one point for a few seconds then goes back to normal, not sure if that's intended) but then after a while, it simply stops. It doesn't freeze or give me an error message, it just stops working for several hours.

I have an nVidia Quadro in my desktop here at work, just installed Windows 7 Pro 32Bit (trying all the flavors before rolling out to prospective clients).
I can get multiple displays running but I've encountered a problem that has driven me to the breaking point.
From my onboard VGA, I can get full resolution and a great picture. From my Quadro all I get in dual dispaly (not the full 3 or 4 I want) and when it does display on two screens together, it's mirrored.
The display options are only seeing the monitors and Generic PnP and it detects the two both as monitor "1". Their resolution is stuck to 1024x768.
Here's the stranger part: In my Hardware Profiles, it has 2 Standard VGAs listed in Device Manager and 2 "Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family". One of the "Intel" chip and one of the "Standard VGA" each are showing that the devices could not start.
I've uninstalled the drivers for all 4, rebooted, removed them from device manager and even switched my BIOS to boot from the onboard instead of Auto (Dell BIOS).
To finally confound things more, when I do reboot, guess what displays on the BIOS? QUADRO!
My BIOS obviously recognizes and identifies the card, but 7 is just throwing it down. I've tried the new Forceware drivers as well as every driver nVidia had listed for Windows 7 32bit for every model of NVS Quadro with no avail, it just says that no matching hardware is found.
Can this be addressed and fixed or should I just start getting rid to roll over clients video cards like crazy?

I bought a new desktop with vista in it. After upgrading to windows 7, i installed my nvidia driver for GT230. However, after restarting windows 7 goes to the desktop but nothing loads. No taskbar, no explorer, just a movable mouse.
I switched into safe mode and rollback the drivers and used the standard VGA driver, however whenever i try to install nvidia drivers, the same thing happens.

I was playing a game while my pc froze. So i restart my computer directly and while my pc boots i see messed up graphics for my hardware logos. This confirmed me, even before my pc started, that something had gone wrong with my 3d card.
As windows booted up i log into 800x600 resolution (not what i use). Then i find out from Device Manager that windows is stopping my XFX 9800GT display adapter. Exact error was "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".
This is what i have tried so far:
1. Removing display drivers from Add and Remove Software and reinstalling them manually. Did not work. Driver installs ok but it still says that "stopped" message in device manager.
2. Letting windows update download the driver. Which it did, but after it was not installed. Got an error message "code 80070002".
3. Tried Driver Sweeper in safemode and installed drivers. After restarting getting same error in device manager.
Problem im getting is that now most of my other pc software is not working, like firefox, windows messenger etc. It just says ABC.exe has stopped working. Plus any kind of text is now slightly hazy. Like water dropped on ink writing. But i guess that is to be expected when there is no video driver installed.
By the way im using Windows 7 Home premium 32 bit.
What do?
