My granddaughter just purchased an Asus netbook and it came with Windows 7 Starter Edition installed...Is there any way to upgrade the operating system to Win 7 Home Edition? There is no DVD drive in this computer.

Ive downloaded countless driver programs which tell you what sound card you have and not one has detected it. IVE ALSO downloaded drivers for the Windows 7 version of my sound (Realtek AC97) and ran windows updates and NONE worked. ive ran the troubleshooter on the sound thing...STILL not detecting any sound card. i tried changing the audio in BIOS from auto - enabled....nothing.

The problem is that I have used Anytine Upgrade to install Win 7 Home Premium instead of the out-of-the-box Starter version. If I get a replacement netbook with Starter on it, will I be able to use the same activation number on the new one or will it ring up "Tilt"? If I need to revert to Starter to return this netbook, then how do I do that? There are too many subsequent restore points to be able to go that route. The one that would take me back to starter status has disappeared.

This 16bit software ran fine on my previous pc, which had Windows 7 Starter 32-bit. View 3 Replies View RelatedIn case anyone is running into issues trying to upgrade Windows 7 Home Premium to Ultimate, I did the following things and got it to work. I ran into the "Can't upgrade. Need clean install" issue, and the "you have a later version" issue.
1. Changed the two registry keys in Hkey Local MachineSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersion Changed Edition ID to "Enterprise".Product Name to "Windows 7 Enterprise"
2. Browsed the Windows 7 Ultimate CD directory, found the Setup.exe file, right mouse clicked it, selected "properties", and told 7 that I wanted to run this file in Vista Version 2.
Then ran setup from Windows 7 Home Premium.You obviously need an upgrade license for this to work, but I had just purchased one.
I just did a clean install of Win 7 Home and everything went smoothly but I have 32 gigs installed and it shows 32 but says only 16 are available. I am told this is directly because of a limitation in Win 7 home. so I have two questions:
1) is their anyway to modify Win 7 home so I can access all 32 gigs? 2) if I use an anytime upgrade to Win 7 pro will there be any issues? It worked fine for a while but I was having trouble trying to set up my LAN and wireless connection to work together in order to get onto xbox live via BT Openzone. After a while the advice from the microsoft website was to carry out a system restore, so I did and used the recommended date, however on trying to restore the ugrade failed and reverted back to windows 7 starter. Until recently I ran windows xp. I shared a built in wall Ethernet jack with another desktop. I used my router (Linksys Befsr41) as a switch by disabling dhcp and connecting the wall ethernet and the two computers to the Lan ports on the router. The other desktop until recently was also running windows xp, but was upgraded and is now an apple imac running os x lion. My internet briefly stopped working but I was able to reset my router and get my internet running again. I then needed to reformat my build and installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I cant quite pinpoint my problem. If I connect straight to the wall ethernet jack i have internet access. However if i use my router as a switch to get internet for both my pc and the apple imac, I will not have internet access. Sometimes the internet does indeed come back on in this circumstance, only to get disconnected again shortly. I am not sure who to blame because the router worked fine when spliiting ethernet for xp machines, and I have internet access when running straight from the wall to my pc

Can I buy this upgrade copy of 7 professional, perform a clean install of windows prof. 64 bit with the upgrade disc, and then use my current oem 32 bit home disc and or license key, to validate that i do in fact have a copy of windows currently.
So technically I wont be "Upgrading" from 32 to 64, I will be re-installing. I have asked several tech savy friends, and while they don't think it cant work, they are unsure. The laptop I am considering is the HP Pavilion DM1-4020sa (4GB, 500GB, 1.65GHz), which comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 32.
My questions are thus:
1 - Is it possible to upgrade easily to 64-bit Home Premium from the 32-bit version supplied, or does it require purchasing discs?
