Upgrading 32 Bit To 64 Bit Windows 7 And CD Won't Execute?
Dec 13, 2011
Im trying to upgrade my 32 bit home premium to 64 bit professional. I bought the new key from the student website and downloaded the files and extracted them. Then i burned those files onto a DVD and restarted my computer and modified the BIOS to have the first start priority to be the rom drive. The problem is that it seems nothing is executing when the CD is executed and it just goes right to the currently installed OS. I used the standard windows burner, is there something i need to click to make the CD executable?
I am given a task to install win 7 in lab having 100 Pcs running already win XP, I know it will take a huge time. I want to know that is there any way to execute directly Win 7 iso image file in XP after copying in it so that I will not install win 7 again and again one by one in each pc.
i have windows seven ultimate running on a machine just fine for about half a year. after installing some piece of software related to android rooting, i found myself unable to do anything on the computer, as launch windows explorer, restart shutdown, start any other program, as this error appears:windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.watch this: windows 7 error: you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item - Internet i rebooted by power cycle into safe mode. there i didn't encountered any problems, i was able to start programs, i uninstalled the latest software i installed before this problem, but this didn't solved the problem.also, while in safe mode, i created another admin user but is behaves the same way as the original user i have on this machine.
In old WinXP there was a tricky feature in Group Policy editor to execute a script when a User logs off resp. the computer was shutdown. I do not find this feature in Windos 7 (pro). is there another way to execute a *
Does anyone know how to set it so that when I right click a link in IE8 and press 'A' it brings up the 'save target as' dialog instead of just highlighting it in the menu?
I know this sounds pretty silly but ive been using this hotkey for years and have gotten very used to it and this new way is definately not as efficient!
Is there some way to configure Windows 7 to execute commands (such as resolution changing, killing/starting processes and services, etc.) whenever the laptop switches from AC to DC and back? I have been using batterysaver from codeplex.com but it is still in beta and hasn't seen any updates for around 6 months. It is somewhat unreliable and I can't get it to trigger nircmd.exe to lower my resolution when I switch to battery or to raise it when I switch back.I think my best bet would be Task Scheduler, but I don't know how to make a power event a trigger.
It's pretty basic instructions and I understand how to run Command Prompt, but at step 5, I don't know how to execute the file so that I can apply the statements to the program. The link is: [URL]
Since I got my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit) about one year ago, there was something strange with some of my games. Everytime I try to run them the first time once my laptop booted up, nothing happens, so I always have to look into the task manager, kill the process (the CPU load is always 00, the RAM stucks somewhere around 2000 K), and re-run the game, then it works. In that time I got no problem with that (though it was a bit annoying), but recently, some of my old games dont run even after more trials. The process is freezing everytime, and I dont understand why. Now Id like to solve that problem.
I had an idea and was wondering if it was possible or not.Is it possible to take a USB-stick and format it in a way so when it's connected to a Windows 7 PC (the same pc) it's content is automatically executed? Without asking the user what should be done. What i would like to execute is a x.m4a file. Or any other media format filetype. The request has no malicious purpose.I was not sure where on the forum to put this. To it ended in software.
I am using Windows 7.I have a shortcut to Remote Desktop Connection on my desktop. If I double click on this shortcut it will always open a new instance. However if I use the shortcut key to execute this shortcut it will only open a new instance if no other instances are running. The same happens with shortcuts to HTA applications, however applications developed in C++ or C# do not have this problem. Why should it be any different HOW you access a shortcut?
When I insert USB Drive, the folder just load but its not opening at all, plus all the icon was gone. I have done scans for both malware and antivirus but none found. The only solution for this is when I remove the drive and restart the pc. I also experience this when sorting items without the usb inserted. After this problem I often get "The remote procedure call failed and did not execute." Which restart is the only option.
My PC is windows 7 ultimate 32bit OS! Few days ago I connected my pc with few friends pc to play a game via lan! After that day whenever I start my pc the start screen (desktop) does not show and directly my documents folder opens. When I close the folder a blank screen appears. Then I go to task manager n new task n then type explorer.exe, then it works normally !!!
This has happened every time I restart the pc. I downloaded MSE and removed the viruses that had corrupted the explorer file. Then I went to run n used the sfc / scannow command.... but nothing works and same old error i.e., no startup screen! How do I get the explorer.exe to execute on its own without always going to task manager! There is no other error in the pc other than that!
Something is wrong with my fn key and F1-F12 keys? Suddenly it seems like my F1-F12 keys are using different keys. For example, when I press F1, I get a screen output switch thing. F2 disables my wifi. F3 uses the A key. F8 uses my Q key, and F9 uses my G key. I want to use F5 to refresh web pages but it doesn't work. I am using a Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 model
I am having trouble installing .net framework 4. I had it before but when installing security updates it would fail, so I thought I would just uninstall and reinstall it again. But now I can no longer install it again. When ever I double click the setup.exe it does not run. It doesn't do anything. Here is what I did before coming to this forum:Virus scan: microsoft security essentials, ad-adwareSFC scan: no errorscheckdiskregister and unregister windows installeruse many microsoft fix it that includes repairing windows update, msi, etc
I keep getting the The Remote Procedure Call Failed and did not execute error when opening my control panel or windows explorer on Windows 7.I've made sure the RPC is on and that the second service is on manual so that isn't the problem.
I have just managed to crash Windows Explorer and have receivedthe following error message (no error code provided);"The remote procedure call failed and did not execute"Whenever I try and double left mouse click on computer, control panelor any other windows processes I receive the above error message.I was wondering if any other members have received this sameerror message?
i just discovered "action(s)" and i would like to know if there is a way to set it up to execute a command line task such as: csp -i <file name> -o <output bmp)can i set up action(s) to ask for the input file name and the output bmp path and the execute the entire task?
-Windows Vista initially installed; Dell provided a windows 7 Installation CD once it came out.
Hardware was bought ~December 2009. Installed Windows 7 once in 2010 and once earlier this year.
When I tried to make the System Health Report, it came up with "The system cannot find the specified path." I'm currently running everything from Safe Mode with networking since if I tried to boot up regularly, the system locks up with little CPU usage, explorer.exe fails and I get the error "The remote procedure call failed and did not execute" when I try to open any folder, the computer locks up again before finally BSOD.
I can't seem to open any folder using Explorer in Windows 7 RC b7100, as it fails with the above error. This happened after Explorer stopped picking up metadata on files, and so I killed and restarted explorer using Task Manager. Files and folders on my Desktop still show up, and files still open in their respective applications, but folders won't show, as with the error. Happens with any local folder.I can't find anything on Google. I haven't touched any Explorer settings, and I'm not interested in an Explorer alternative. I can restart, but this has happened once before, so I'm thinking it'll happen again after a restart.
I have this Video file, (AVI, ~12GB) that I cannot in any way modify. I can't rename it, (If I do, windows explorer crashes) I can't move or delete it (When I try it gets stuck on "Preparing" ) But I can modify all my other files. Also, when I try this, if I don't end explorer.exe's task, and close the recycling window, my hard drive goes under extreme stress and explorer uses a total I/O of over 100MB/s! It is very frustrating, and I need the space. Also, when I try to drag and drop a file onto a program, (Vegas for example) it freezes the program and the I/O spikes, and stays high. Then, when I end explorer.exe, it loads into it.
EDIT: Now my hard drive is maxed out ALL THE TIME! My computer is running slow, My Resource monitor won't load any content (Processes using disk, memory, etc) I'm positive I don't have a virus, nothing like this has happened before?"The remote procedure call failed and did not execute"
i downloaded a disk image iso file for one of my programs. i mounted and ran the image. the setup.exe file runs fine but when i make any selction i get a "error calling shell execute. error code: 5" message and the program terminates.i tried it on a xp machine and also burned a cd but am still getting the error message
I have Hitman: Absolution and Microsoft Office 2010, that both need Windows 7. Luckily, I have an official Windows 7 install disc for both 32 and 64. Now, backing up all my qaqa on 4.7 GB dvd discs would be a hassle, and that would be what I'm looking at because there is only one hard drive. My question: What are the downsides to just installing Windows 7 64 bit over Windows XP 64 bit, rather than backup files -> reformat -> clean install?
I recently got a new computer, built it from the ground up for gaming. My school is part of MSDNAA fun time so I was able to get a free version of Windows 7 64bit service pack 1. I downloaded the files and it was an .iso file.
The first try, I ended up burning the .iso file its self to a disk with out mounting it then downloading the files onto the disk that way. So that didn't work.
The next thing I tried was downloading the actual files needed to install the OS onto a flash drive. The reason that didn't work was because I didn't format the flash drive correctly before I downloaded the files onto it. I then tried to format the flash drive but now I can't even open it or do anything else with it.
I ended up asking a friend who had a boot disk for Windows 7. The only problem is that he didn't know if it was 32 bit or 64. This disk actually worked... the only problem is that it's 32 bit.
I ended up getting another disk and downloaded the, what I believe, right files onto it. Popped it into my new computer to hopefully install the 64 bit version of the OS and over right the 32 bit version, or have it reformat my hard drive then install the OS. So far it isn't working.
Is there any advice I could get from you guys. I was thinking about wiping my hard drive and starting from scratch, hoping that the 64 bit disk I burned would work. So far, I haven't been able to actually wipe it, so I'm at a bit of a cross roads.
I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium on a basic HD. I recently purchased a new SSD and a full installation of Windows Ultimate.
I would like to install Windows Ultimate to the SSD and use my old HD as a secondary storage device. Most importantly, I do not want to lose any of my documents or personal files currently stored on the old HD.
I'm looking for advice or recommendations on the best approach here. Should I do a full Win7 Ultimate install to the SSD and leave Win7 Home Premium on the secondary drive? Or, is there a better way to migrate files from the secondary drive to the new SSD and then format the old HD?
My machine (a very powerful 64bit one) wouldnt let me update from XP Professional to Windows 7 64 bit, but would allow me to update (clean install) to 32 bit. Now 32 is in can I upgrade to 64?
I was looking up previous topics regarding upgrading to Windows 7 and was not really finding any definitive answers. I have been perfectly happy and content with Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and have been flirting with the idea of upgrading to Windows 7What brought me to this was I want to install and play Battlefield 3 which only runs on Windows 7. I have a nice system even by today's standards, so I ran the Microsoft's upgrade to Windows 7 app checker. It told me that most programs would be fine but there are some like K-lite's Codec Pack and such that it is unclear if there is compatability. Now I am not going to backup data, clean install Windows 7, and reinstall all programs and apps just to play one game.
My pc is old.500gb space, 2gb ram.Tired of xp, I want to upgrade to win7 ultimate. I have original cd.One of the reasons im doing this is becoz, I'm a gamer and lot of new games are not supporting win xp anymore.

2. I have 180gb worth data on pc, is it possible to recover/keep data as it is without transferring it somewhere else (I have 4 drives)
3. can i have xp on 1 drive and win7 on other?
4. I dont know which version I have, I think its 32bit. My xp is also 32bit , does it matter?
5. I have all installation cd's, everything. what else do i need?
6. How to connect to internet in win7. I have win7 on my laptop and I dunno how to.
7. my Dvd drive is not working properly , my sis has win 7 in usb , can win 7 be installed from usb?
I am new to this forum, I was a Desktop/Network engineer (before Windows 7 came out).I would like to hear any tips or tricks on upgrading from 32 to 64. I know you have to completely reformat ETc. To give you a slight heads up my HDD is already partitioned and its a new notebook 8MB fitted Ramm (but obviously only 2 MB being utilized (careful choice of words there!) I am currently checking first my hardware drivers to make sure there compatible
