I just bought a Dell XPS 8300 that came with Windows7 Home Premium. There is a chance I will need to upgrade to Professional. Is there any issues upgrading from a Dell loaded version of Windows? I have the reinstall disc that came with the PC.Side note... if I were to upgrade to Professional, and then some point down the line have to reformat my drive, would I be able to use my Dell disc with Home Premium and then use my upgrade to Professional again? Or would I have to buy it again?
I have a self built PC running XP Pro SP3, and I'm planning to upgrade this to Windows 7 Professional, initially dual booting until I've sorted out all hardware & driver problems. The hardware is an ASUS M3A78-CM motherboard which I know supports 64 bits architecture, 2 x 1Mb DDR2 800 MHz DIMMS and an AMD Athlon II x2 250 Processor @ 3GHz AM3 CPU which, I understand, also has 64-bit instructions.
To the nitty-gritty, given that I can easily buy more RAM as required - there are still 2 free slots on the motherboard),should I go for 32-bit or jump to 64-bit. Will my existing software (including Office 2010, Acronis Disk Director and True Image, Steganos Suite etc) install and reap the benefit, or will I need further expense to upgrade all these. And how much RAM should I buy if I stick with 32 bit or if I jump to 64 bit.
Currently I've got HP 64, I dunno If the features would be worth it for me. But one thing I do like is that gpedit.msc is included in Professional and above.Should I fork out $130 for the upgrade ?And what would be the main difference between Professional and Ultimate ?
I purchased Windows 7 Professional for my old computer. Shortly after the install my old computer failed. I've since purchased a new computer with Windows 7 Home. My question is: can I somehow upgrade the Home version to the Professional version using the Professional Install disc? The old computer was 32 bit and the new computer is 64 bit if that makes any difference.
We recently purchased a new Sony all-in-one desktop that came with Windows 7 premium. Is it possible to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional online, if yes, does windows 7 professional come with Windows Mail or equivalent (for email) that can be stored on the local harddrive?
I upgraded my Aspire One D255 netbook from widows 7 starter to windows 7 pro (32 bit). After upgrading it is not giving me the option to conect to my wireless routerIt is not even giving me the option to scan for one. I have tried all the options in the start menu, i have tried device manager, I try to scan for a router and it says "this may take up to 90 seconds" 30 mins latter and it still hasn't found a router. Can someone tell me how to connect or go back to windows 7 starter (i dont have the disk as it was already on the laptop) or how to go back to factory deaful
My toshiba c650 laptop recently acquired a virus and now it will not boot. I was running windows 7 home premium 64bit at the time with ubuntu 11.10( I think) my computer crashed while I was running a mcafee scan and has not booted since ubuntu also does not boot due to the windows 7 system failure. Any way I was wondering if I bought a windows professional 64bit upgrade, could I Install it from boot? I also need to know if it would wipe all virus's from the hard drive. It would be best to mention that I have tried safe mode, safe mode with networking, my recovery discs and a blue screen repair discs all that happens when running these is a black screen with white cursor I left them all for an hour to see if anything happens but sadly nothing does.
About a year ago, a friend bought a Windows 7 Professional upgrade installation disk off of the Microsoft store. At the time, they thought they would only need the 32 bit disk, so that was all they had downloaded.I am now looking to upgrade their computer to an older one of mine which has Vista installed. Now that they will have a machine which supports 64 bit, I would like to upgrade them.
My old pc was lost in a recent move, and I decided to build my next one from scratch. Before it was lost, I had purchased a student version Windows 7 pro upgrade disc, as I was planning on upgrading from XP x64. My question is, is there a way to do a clean install from this upgrade disc, and if not, what is the cheapest windows I can install in the meantime?
I bought Windows 7 Professional and installed it on my computer. Recently, that computer died unexpectedly and I bought a new one that came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. Since getting a new computer was unexpected, there were things I needed to get installed right away, so I just started installing it on the version of the OS that was already installed on the new PC. Now that I have a moment to go back and upgrade it to 7 Pro to take advantage of the features I want/need, this is appearing to not be an option, or at least not an easy one. The only options I'm seeing are to do a full reinstall or to do a Windows Anytime Upgrade which requires a separate license key. I have enough software installed now I really don't want to have to reinstall the entire machine again. Plus there were some applications that came for "free" on the new PC that I'd like to keep, but reinstalling would mean that keeping those apps also was not an option. And it seems stupid that I'd have to buy an upgrade when key when I have a full version of what I want to go to. Is my full version DVD of 7 Pro a paper weight now?
I am eligible for educational discounts on Microsoft software. However, the only Windows 7 listed for a discount is Windows 7 Professional Upgrade Version (for $65). I do not have ANY operating system installed on my computer... can I still install this and be okay? Or do I have to have a Windows version already installed on my computer? If this helps, I have a hard drive (that may actually be damaged, I need to check that) that already has Windows 7 Ultimate installed on it (educational version, 32 bit... I need 64 bit). I'm wary of using that hard drive and disk (I just moved the hard drive to a desktop with all-new components) because the disk had problems when I was installing... I had to take it to my University's IT for them to install it (the code wasn't working).
I was wondering after read the stickie if anyone here has had success using a windows 7 professional upgrade and a fresh hard drive?I don't want to mess around with the registry if i can help it but dont want to have to install xp just to install windows 7 at the same time i dont want to throw money away on the upgrade even though its cheap if i cant use it without faffing trying to find my xp stuff, also i want 64bit and for what i have found i cant put that onto my xp
I've recently purchased a new ASUS computer (N61V I think), it came with Windows 7 Home, however for school the techies will only work with Windows 7 Professional, so thus, I cannot use it at the moment. I went through start, and went to "Windows Anytime Upgrade", purchased the Professional upgrade, confirmed, etc, etc. But for some reason my screen has gone black (I'm using another comp!) and the lights are flashing on and off. This has been happening for 2 hours now, and I'm not sure what to do. It's got a 500GB hard drive (around 470gb left) and I'm not sure why it's having such problems. Very strong internet connection - plugged in- and has been on charging.
Just wondering if i need to do a clean install if upgrading from 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional 64 bits? Or am i able to just upgrade? Will it affect the current softwares on my PC and do i need to reinstall them?
I currently have windows 7 home premium 64 bit edition on my desktop. I get a copy of windows 7 professional 64 bit disc with legal key from my university for a student special. How can I upgrade? I was redirected to windows anytime upgrade during the installation. But my windows 7 professional x64 product key was not accepted there. I already have lots applications installed so I don't want to do a clean install.
i built a compaq laptop board by board a few years ago.the laptop came with a windows xp professional sticker, but no install disc or hard drive.i want to know if i can upgrade the license number without a previous installation of windows xp professional.
I own a acer aspire laptop 5100 series which came with Vista pre installed on it.My ex boyfired decided to install Windows 7 Professional on my laptop earlier this year and now I can't seem to get skype working properly like it use to before Win 7. Nobody can hear me and I've configured the the microphone and speakers to how they should be set in order for skype to work but no one can hear although I can hear every one just fine. I have the latest version on skype installed. I was wondering if the issue is because I have windows 7 on here instead of what it originally came with?
I want to upgrade my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits to Windows 7 Professional 64bits, I want to do it with "windows anytime upgrade". My question is: can i upgrade in 64 bits system? or is it only for 32bits system? And finally, I'm gonna do it in a new computer (no software installed), I need anything in special for make an anytame upgrade?P.s: i'm asking this because I want to be sure before buying a key.
i have the full version of windows 7 home premium 32bit. that does not have the run many windows xp productivity applications in windows xp mode on it. some of the my programs that were working on my full version windows vista home premium 32 will not work on the version of windows 7 that i have. my question is does anyone know if windows 7 professional upgrade have the widows xp mode on it?
We need to update our server from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate in order to use BitLocker. The only upgrade we could purchase was the Windows 7 Ultimate Anytime Upgrade. We cannot get the key to work. Is this because the upgrade is intended to go from Home Premium? Is there a more appropriate upgrade sku for our situation?
I want to upgrade my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 but my install CD is for Professional. Will my computer know what to do and just install the 7 Home Premium version?
I plan to upgrade my laptop which currently running 64-bit Windows Vista Business. Is it possible I can just buy the upgrade version Of Windows 7 Professional from Amazon to upgrade my notebook? Is the Windows 7 Upgrade included the 64bit version?
My question involves upgrading a home desktop to Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a copy of Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista Ultimate which are Academic versions I purchased at a discount from my university. (I already purchased the Student Windows 7 edition for my laptop).
**Are the academic versions of Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows XP Professional eligible for the Windows 7 Ultimate Retail Box Upgrade?**
I do not want to purchase the Upgrade retail box version to then learn the Academic version of XP and Vista are not eligible for the Upgrade version of Windows 7 Ultimate. Or will I need to purchase the Full Retail Box version to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate?
I want to upgrade my Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. My question is this, if I buy a new Windows 7 Pro from a store would itcontain an ANYTIME UPGRADE KEY? I'd like to use this method of upgrade so that I wouldn't have todo all the hassle of removing the old OS and installing the new one.
