I want to upgrade my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits to Windows 7 Professional 64bits, I want to do it with "windows anytime upgrade". My question is: can i upgrade in 64 bits system? or is it only for 32bits system? And finally, I'm gonna do it in a new computer (no software installed), I need anything in special for make an anytame upgrade?P.s: i'm asking this because I want to be sure before buying a key.

I do not have ANY operating system installed on my computer... can I still install this and be okay? Or do I have to have a Windows version already installed on my computer?If this helps, I have a hard drive (that may actually be damaged, I need to check that) that already has Windows 7 Ultimate installed on it (educational version, 32 bit... I need 64 bit). I'm wary of using that hard drive and disk (I just moved the hard drive to a desktop with all-new components) because the disk had problems when I was installing... I had to take it to my University's IT for them to install it (the code wasn't working).

I'm leaning towards buying the clean install disk so that if I should loose the hard drive at some future point I could just clean install Win 7 Ultimate from the disk without having to first install Vista and then upgrade.
Regardless of which type I purchase, am I better off to buy the OEM disk from the machine manufacturer (Toshiba) or just purchase any OEM disk? Of course, if I want Microsoft support then I need to purchase retail disks.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was stupid enough to purchase a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate full version for my computer from someone on Craigslist. This copy was brand new and sealed. I thought it was legit. I completed wiped my computer clean and installed the software. Everything went fine - until after about a month I started getting this message saying "Must Activate Computer." After talking to Microsoft, this software was legit, but it is something called a developer's copy and it blocked my activation code because I wasn't using certain features because I wasn't supposed to have a copy like this. Of course I tried contacting the person - who is now ignoring all my e-mails. In any event...I want to go purchase a legit version from a store but am not sure what I need. I can currently use my computer, but it is operating illegally from the Windows 7 Ultimate that was installed. I do not need ultimate...home premium is fine.
1) Do I need an upgrade version or a full version?
2) What can I do with this developer's copy of Ultimate? Can I sell it anywhere to someone who is allowed to use it? I"d like to get something for it to help pay for the new one.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a self built PC running XP Pro SP3, and I'm planning to upgrade this to Windows 7 Professional, initially dual booting until I've sorted out all hardware & driver problems.The hardware is an ASUS M3A78-CM motherboard which I know supports 64 bits architecture, 2 x 1Mb DDR2 800 MHz DIMMS and an AMD Athlon II x2 250 Processor @ 3GHz AM3 CPU which, I understand, also has 64-bit instructions.
To the nitty-gritty, given that I can easily buy more RAM as required - there are still 2 free slots on the motherboard),should I go for 32-bit or jump to 64-bit. Will my existing software (including Office 2010, Acronis Disk Director and True Image, Steganos Suite etc) install and reap the benefit, or will I need further expense to upgrade all these.And how much RAM should I buy if I stick with 32 bit or if I jump to 64 bit.
Currently I've got HP 64, I dunno If the features would be worth it for me. But one thing I do like is that gpedit.msc is included in Professional and above.Should I fork out $130 for the upgrade ?And what would be the main difference between Professional and Ultimate ?

I was running windows 7 home premium 64bit at the time with ubuntu 11.10( I think) my computer crashed while I was running a mcafee scan and has not booted since ubuntu also does not boot due to the windows 7 system failure. Recently, that computer died unexpectedly and I bought a new one that came with Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. Since getting a new computer was unexpected, there were things I needed to get installed right away, so I just started installing it on the version of the OS that was already installed on the new PC. Now that I have a moment to go back and upgrade it to 7 Pro to take advantage of the features I want/need, this is appearing to not be an option, or at least not an easy one. The only options I'm seeing are to do a full reinstall or to do a Windows Anytime Upgrade which requires a separate license key. I have enough software installed now I really don't want to have to reinstall the entire machine again. Plus there were some applications that came for "free" on the new PC that I'd like to keep, but reinstalling would mean that keeping those apps also was not an option. And it seems stupid that I'd have to buy an upgrade when key when I have a full version of what I want to go to. Is my full version DVD of 7 Pro a paper weight now?
