I've recently purchased a new ASUS computer (N61V I think), it came with Windows 7 Home, however for school the techies will only work with Windows 7 Professional, so thus, I cannot use it at the moment. I went through start, and went to "Windows Anytime Upgrade", purchased the Professional upgrade, confirmed, etc, etc. But for some reason my screen has gone black (I'm using another comp!) and the lights are flashing on and off. This has been happening for 2 hours now, and I'm not sure what to do. It's got a 500GB hard drive (around 470gb left) and I'm not sure why it's having such problems. Very strong internet connection - plugged in- and has been on charging.

I recently had a laptop have the screen destroyed, I am tired of having that laptop connected to monitor and am planning on throwing that hard drive into a new build pc desktop (I understand that the hard drive is fairly slow). What sort of fun gyrations do I have to go through to get the copy of windows registered in my name to be recognized by MS to update and run properly with the mostly new hardware?

I have a pc with Windows XP pro 32bit retail version. First I have made an image, just in case. Then I have upgraded it to windows 8, 64bit by using the retail upgrade DVD and clean install. However, I found out that my motherboard is so old (5 years old) that there are no drivers for win8 and after asking ASUS they said that the motherboard is not supported any more and that there will be no new drivers for it. I tried using win7 drivers but it did not work and without correct drivers a lot of things does not work (in particularly hdmi port). What I want to do now is to revert to my image (windows xp), buy a Windows 7, 64bit upgrade retail DVD and upgrade windows xp to windows 7 for which there are drivers for my motherboard.
1) Can I use windows xp retail (whose product key has already been used to upgrade to win8) image to upgrade to windows 7 retail? will the activation of windows 7 succeed? I want to use clean install again since i upgrade from 32bit to 64bit
2) If the answer to question 1 is a yes, how does microsoft prevent users from using the same windows image file to upgrade different pc's? I mean, theoretically, I can make an image of pc1, copy it to a hard drive of pc2 (even if it will result in erroneous installation due to different specs) and upgrade both systems by using two VUP product keys which are cheaper than one VUP + one retail product keys
3) Can I use windows 8 upgrade DVD which is not used any more to upgrade another PC?

My partner bought 3 upgrades as a group to Win 7 but we were concerned as we live in different places as we both want to install them that Microsoft might not let us do it with this type licence.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-A5934 with Windows 7 Pro 32bit that decided to suddenly stop working and tried to run System Repair. The System Repair wouldn't work and I tried to re-install windows using my Windows 7 CD that I've used several times in the past. When the installation got to the License Agreement page, I couldn't click on anything. The cursor moved around the screen just fine but I couldn't click on anything.
I removed the hard drive and put it in a different model Toshiba Satellite and it allowed me to install the windows 7 cd without any problems. I mentioned my problem to a co-worker and he said that he had had the same problem with his computer. He said that he bought a new hard drive for the computer and all was well. So I bought a new hard drive and put it in the L305-A5934 and tried to install windows again but again, when I got to the license agreement, I couldn't click on anything.

I have a windows 7 DVD provided by my school that says "64-bit x64 upgrade: Pre-existing OS license Required"
I have one desktop computer with Vista and one laptop also with vista (both with legit keys & activation)
Question is: can the upgrade DVD be used on the two machine ?
Will it require the old vista key, the new win7 one, or both ?

Obviously no one can predict the future but answer based on past experience When you get an own license it's tied to the motherboard. If you upgrade it with a better upgrade only version (retail version) does it become a full license or is it still oem?

Just wondering how this is going to go. Right now my comp is running XP Pro which i obtained from my IT department. Im a federal employee so the disc i have is a federal corporate license. Today i purchased W7 Pro and a new 1Tb hard drive. Im goint to make my old hard drive backup storage and put the W7 OS on the new drive. Whats the best way to go about it?
When i install the new hard drive and boot from the W7 disc is it just going to prompt me to put in the XP disc? Or does it just ask for a valid XP license key? Everytime i have installed this XP on a new comp it never asks me for a CD key...i think it has something to do with the fact it is a government license and is unlimited regarding the number of comps it can be put on. If i need a key i guess ill have to wait till i get back to work and get one from the IT department.

I once did a fresh install of an Home Premium ISO image on an Asus G series laptop by using an ISO image and the Windows license tied to the computer. I am wondering if the same thing could work with an Ultimate 64 bit ISO image and a student upgrade license of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit if I wish to have a fresh install of Ultimate.

I'm previously running Windows 7 SP1, I have a driver problem with my graphic card. I wanted to do a test and so I did a new Windows 7 install on the same partition, I'm done with the test and I want to go back to my previous Windows 7. I tried EasyBCD, Windows Repair through booting from Windows 7 disk. But there is only 1 boot entry which is the new Windows 7. I need to go back to my Windows 7 SP1. Or at least let me have dual boot option

I have a self built PC running XP Pro SP3, and I'm planning to upgrade this to Windows 7 Professional, initially dual booting until I've sorted out all hardware & driver problems. The hardware is an ASUS M3A78-CM motherboard which I know supports 64 bits architecture, 2 x 1Mb DDR2 800 MHz DIMMS and an AMD Athlon II x2 250 Processor @ 3GHz AM3 CPU which, I understand, also has 64-bit instructions.
To the nitty-gritty, given that I can easily buy more RAM as required - there are still 2 free slots on the motherboard),should I go for 32-bit or jump to 64-bit. Will my existing software (including Office 2010, Acronis Disk Director and True Image, Steganos Suite etc) install and reap the benefit, or will I need further expense to upgrade all these. And how much RAM should I buy if I stick with 32 bit or if I jump to 64 bit.

I just bought a Dell XPS 8300 that came with Windows7 Home Premium. There is a chance I will need to upgrade to Professional. Is there any issues upgrading from a Dell loaded version of Windows? I have the reinstall disc that came with the PC.Side note... if I were to upgrade to Professional, and then some point down the line have to reformat my drive, would I be able to use my Dell disc with Home Premium and then use my upgrade to Professional again? Or would I have to buy it again?

My question is: can I somehow upgrade the Home version to the Professional version using the Professional Install disc? The old computer was 32 bit and the new computer is 64 bit if that makes any difference.

MS Office 2007 Professional will not install. It does not get past the splash screen 'Setup is preparing the necessary files', but hangs. The summary error message in Event Viewer is as follows:
The device, DeviceCDRom0, has a bad block.
The program installed quite happily on my old Windows XP Pro computer, and the DVD drive is able to read other installation discs, so it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem.

1) Is this the correct Service Pack 1 installation file for Windows 7 Professional 64-bit?
Windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe
2) Do I need to download and install any of the other .Symbols files from the website?
3) I am installing a new PC with Windows 7 Professional RTM from the DVD. Can I install SP1 immediately after installing Windows 7, or do I need to do a Windows Update first?
