Upgrade Problems From Vista, No Optical Drive Detected
I am having major problems upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista. I have an HP dv3 with Windows Vista 64-bit. I am using the HP upgrade disc with the upgrade option. I first ran into problems when the Windows 7 disc told me that some components would not be installed properly, namely that I needed to upgrade my keyboard filter driver.
I did what I was told and when I tried to re-start the upgrade process the disc told me that I would need to re-start my computer. I did that and when it re-started, a message from HP popped up saying that my optical drive was no longer connected and that I needed to re-connect it in order for the upgrade to continue. So now my optical drive is not reading anything and I do not know what has happened or how to even fix it.

Disc Not Detected In DVD/RW Drive After Upgrade From Vista SP1 To W7 RC1
I recently did an upgrade install from Vista SP1 to W7 RC1. Everything works BUT - my DVD/RW drive (the very same one I used to install from) is no longer working. The drive is detected, has the right driver, shows up in My Computer, but it absolutely refuses to recognize any disc I put in it. If I double click on the drive with a disc in it, it pops open the drawer and requests that I load a disc. I am running out of things to try. I have tried the following: 1. Uninstall the driver and reboot. Windows easily detects the drive and reinstalls the driver each time, but the problem persists. 2. Uninstall all optical programs (AnyDVD, Roxio Easy Media Creator, iTunes) 3. Regedit to remove keys for upper and lower filters 4. Changing BIOS settings for ACHI, Enhanced vs Compatibility mode, etc. None of these, or any combination thereof, has worked so far. I am using a Plextor PX-716SA SATA DVD/RW drive. Like I said it was working until immediately after the W7 upgrade. The drive appears to show up perfectly, just won't detect any discs. Looking for suggestions short of a clean install. I'm willing to do that but I'd rather exhaust all other possibilities first.

U3 Micro Not Recognized Like Flash Drive But Like Optical Drive
I've format my pc and after I see that my flash drive u3 is not yet recognised like a flash drive, but like an optical drive... If I connect with another pc with Windows 7, it does... I post an image with the different situation... Before format it work also on my pc... Now, with the same programs and the same driver installed not... Optical Drive Problems
I recently installed windows 7 professional on my system and now my optical drive is acting weird. The drive will run CDs just fine (I can install and rip. haven't tested burning), but it will have nothing to do with DVDs. When I put a DVD in it, it doesn't do anything. After a while, if I go to my computer and double click on the disk drive, the optical drive will eject the disk and say "Please insert disk". I have looked in the device manager and it says the driver is working properly. I have tried looking into the "regedit" and the upper and lower filters aren't there. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting so that windows installs them (no luck). I have also tried starting with the driver signature enforcement disabled but nothing happens. My ODD is a (SATA) Samsung Sh-S223Q in case you wanted to know. One thing that i noticed that I thought was odd was that my device manager had 2 drivers for my Optical Drive. They are HCB JGPYF*X SCSI CdRom Device and TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223Q ATA Device. I have a virtual drive (daemon tools lite) installed but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.Â

Optical Drive Issues
It seems as though my two optical dvd-rom & dvd-ram drives are working only intermittently, since loading windows 7 64 ultimate from vista 64 ultimate. While there are many drivers that I have saved as downloads plus those that can be found online there are drivers that are only available via disk, so having the optical drives consistently function properly is of the utmost importance. Anyone with any suggestions are solutions please let us all know your thoughts.

Interesting Problem With Optical Drive
I've a problem with my optical drive. After finalizing the disk during burning when it is again inserted it is just throwing out the disk without reading the contents in it. But it is reading the disks which were previously written using the same optical drive.Those disks which are thrown out when inserted into another optical drive of another system it is reading them.

Thumbnails And Optical Drive Problem
I know how to disable thumbnails system wide and this is not what I want to do. The problem my system is having is when I place a disc such as an SVCD in the drive and want to copy one of the files. When I go into the folder with the videos, Windows tries to make thumbnails of all the files or at least it tries to gather information on them. The problem is that since it's an optical disc, there is only one laser, so there is a very long explorer.exe freeze while it tries to do so. I guess it is reading a little of each file at a time and trying for all of them at once. Is there a tweak or a setting I can change without affecting videos stored on the HDDs?

Optical Drive Disappears When Rebooting
Rebooting disappears the optical drive when attempting to view it by clicking on "Computer." It also disappears from "devices." However, shutting down and starting does not affect the system in any way. Hence, when I'm instructed to reboot, I now simply shut down and start rather than reboot. I haven't been able to find out the source of this problem. You should know that this is a desktop with a very small form factor; i.e., mini ITX with an Atom and the optical drive is a slim laptop optical drive with an adapter for use on a desktop setup.

Samsung Sh -222a Optical Drive Driver
I downloaded the .iso file earlier today and put it on a dvd with InfraRecorder, and after i hit the "install now" button i get an error message saying that windows cannot find the driver for my optical drive? additional info 64 bit version of the OS samsung sh -222a optical drive (yes its a 64bit compatable system) i saw this topic in another thread i found via google, but there was no answer given to the problem, and it seemed like one that alot of people are having, thanks in advance to anyone who can help me (and likely alot of other people) out.

Sony Optical Drive Cannot Be Ejected By Button
Im using sony vgn-tz37gn and after installing window 7, i could not eject the cd tray by pressing the button. i check with the sony vaio service centre it was not provide any driver by the sony. they say it could be or not coming up the the drivers. anyone who can help on this issue. i hope to find alternative way to look out for drivers .

LG Optical Drive Disappears From Device List
I have a HTPC with dual boot WinXP and Win7 RC7100. I have a problem with my optical drive in Win7, but the problem does not occur in WinXP. Problem Description: On booting up the system the optical drive works fine and appears in My Computer and the Device manager. At some point (usually within three minutes of bootup) the drive disappears from My Computer and the Device manager â it just vanishes⦠There are no errors or windows explaining why it happens, there are no errors shown in the event logs either around the time it occurs. Once the drive âdisappearsâ the tray cannot be opened by the button on the drive and it isnât redetected if you run the search for new devices gizmo. If you just leave it in that state, periodically the drive light flashes and there is a clicking noise. In the event logs it shows an error âdrive not readyâ. The error repeatedly appears sometimes every few seconds for a few minutes. It then stops and might not do it again for hours, or might start again in a few minutes. Whilst all this is going on, the drive still doesnât show in device manager and you cant eject the tray by the switch⦠I would suspect a faulty drive, but as I said above it works completely fine in WinXP. I have tried stripping the machine of any added software, which didnât take long as all I have is Kaspersky AV, PowerDVD and software for the LCD on my Antec case. The drive in question is an LG GGC-H20L (Sata CD/DVD Writter, Blu-Ray Reader). I have tried searching on the net for others with the same problem as me, but surprisingly mostly I found people saying their same model drive works fine on Win7. On the other hand the couple of people I did find with similar problems both stated that LG had refused to help them saying they wouldnât support Win7 until it was released. Explorer Optical Drive Default To Open Not Play
I'm running Windows 7 build 7077. I've messed around with all the autostart/autoplay settings I can find. But I can't find a way to change my optical drive default in Explorer from Play to Open(as in explore the folders not play the video.) It's just a nuisance to forget, double click, get the error(because I have WMP disabled in local security policy) then right click on the drive icon and click Open. Life would be easier if I could just double-click it!! Anyone know the secret?

ASUS DRW-1814BLT Optical Drive Not Recognized While Installing
I currently have an ASUS DRW-1814BLT and when I try to install Windows 7, it ask me for drivers. As far as I know, it doesn't exist. I tried installing it from Windows, doesn't work. I tried from boot, doesn't work. Is it hidden somewhere on the DVD or how can I resolve this ? The drive can read, write and etc in Vista 64 without problem. E8400, P5K Deluxe, 2x2 ram.

Vista To Win 7 Upgrade Made My DVD Drive Disappear
I've got a Dell box (bought last year) with Vista 64 Ultimate. I downloaded the Windows 7 x64 Ultimate ISO file, burned it to DVD, and started the upgrade process. Unfortunately after the first reboot, my DVD drive disappeared. It shows up just fine in Device Manager (which says the drivers are up to date) but Windows Explorer no longer shows it. The drive letters now go from D to F, skipping the "E" where my DVD drive used to be. So now I can't finish the upgrade because Windows doesn't see the drive. (During the first part of the upgrade, I removed the 5 apps that the Advisor told me to -- Dell Remote Access, Intellitype Pro, ATI Catalyst Control Center, iTunes, and a utility that came with my Canon Camera, if that matters)Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas how I can get my DVD drive back?

Hard Drive Not Detected
I've got an issue during post installation. One of my hard drive is never given a drive letter, but it does show up as a possible install drive during setup. I always have to go into Drive Management and assign that drive a letter (and moving my DVD drive down a letter to keep the letters in order). Under Drive Management the drive has the Properties (System, Active, Primary Partition), so I'm wondering if that is the issue. Is there a way to change Drive Properties (if that is the case)?

Internal Dvd Drive Not Detected.
i have this problem whereby whenever i resume the computer from sleep, the dvd drive disappear from "my computer" and device manager. It could not be detected as well. All the hard disks were detected. The only way was to restart the computer. The dvd drive is connected via the IDE cable to the mobo , using the Jmicron IDE/Raid chipset. may i know if there is any remedy to this ?

DVD Drive Not Detected After Installation
After successfully installing Windows 7, my DVD-RW drive is not being recognised. To rectify this I go to the device manager and 'scan for hardware changes' and Windows 7 finds the drive and all is well. However, the next time I start up, it has lost the drive again so I have to go through the same procedure again! Could you please help me to permanently keep my DVD drive remembered by Windows 7?

CD/DVD Drive Not Detected After Win 7 Install
Soon after installing Windows 7 RC I realized that my CD/DVDs were no longer reading. I went to "my computer" and it was no longer listed. I can't get anything to fix it. I tried device manger with detecting new devices and it found my drive but gave me this message- "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" Device manager also told me that I have the best and latest drivers installer, which kind of contradicts it telling me that it's missing or corrupted. My CD drive works perfectly in Ubuntu (no surprise.) It also worked in Vista so this is clearly a windows7 issue, right? How do I fix it? I have a HP Pavilion dv6985se Entertainment Notebook PC with a LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support Multimedia Driver.

USB Drive Not Detected In Autoplay Applet
I'm looking for suggestions on how to enable detection of my USB devices in the Autoplay applet in Control Pane. All Control Panel Items, Autoplay. I've checked the appropriate services to see if they're started, and all of the devices (flash drives and external drives) are recognized in Device Manager and are accessible in Windows Explorer.

Install Issue - Hard Drive Not Detected
already posted about this issue in the Gigabyte section of the forums. Thought I'd post here for some more feedback, since the issue overlaps (admins please feel free to remove this thread if you think it's redundant). Building my first computer, and I managed to get it running. I got the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit ISO off Digital River and made a bootable USB flash drive. Computer powered up, I set it to boot off the USB drive, and install process started. However, when it prompted me to choose which drive to install Windows to, my hard drive did not show up. I rebooted, set the hard drive to AHCI in the BIOS (native IDE by default), and tried to install the drivers from the Gigabyte website off a flash drive, and still nothing. I also updated the BIOS and tried again in both IDE and AHCI, but still didn't work. I ordered a new hard drive and will try again later, but I'm doubting it's the hard drive (no signs of mechanical failure).

Win 7 Refuses To Install On A Detected Ide Drive
i'm trying to install windows 7 rc (french 64bit) on a blank ide drive hooked up as master to my single ide channel in a gigabyte ds3l. the chips are ich9 which shouldn't matter because there are no sata drives and jmicron 368 which is the ide channel. the installation detects the drive and can partition and format it. but it claims that the computer will not be able to boot from the drive and asks me to verify that the controller is enabled. of course the controller is enabled in the bios. the dvd drive is the slave. i'm guessing the problem is that my bios reports the sata channels as ide 0-3 and the pata controller is assigned channel 4 master and slave, i think windows 7 thinks i will not be able to boot from channel 4 even though i have no trouble installing and booting xp. i have tried enabling/disabling ahci (the drive is PATA, has nothing to do with SATA, there are no SATA drives in the computer) and also legacy mode. i don't understand why windows would refuse to install on a drive it detects. my bios will gladly boot from my ide drive if windows would just install.

External USB Hard Drive Detected, But Not Shown In Computer
Win 7 RC 64 bit freshly installed. I have files on a usb external drive that I want to transfer over to the computer. When I plugged the external drive into the usb port, I got a message that the drivers were installed and everything was working properly. But when I went to "Computer", the drive wasn't shown. I checked "Devices and Printers" and it was shown there as working properly. The files were from a Vista machine, if that makes a difference. As a work around, I have connected the External Drive to a Vista Laptop and am wirelessly transferring the files (about 50 GB) very slowly - it's been running about 6 hours at this time with much more to transfer. In order to transfer the files, I had to mark them as shared on the Vista.  Â

USB To SATA Interface Detected But Not The SATA Drive Attached To It
Install Windows7 RC without any problems. It detected all hardware and applications without error. Minor only with ASUS P5Q pc probe. PC itself running great. Problem is as follows. If I plug an external usb drive into a port it sees and recognises the drive allowing access. If I plug and external Sata drive in via a USB to SATA converter it sees the converter but does not see the drive attached to it. Worked Fine in VISTA. I changed the drive to another. It was not seen either. The USB to SATA internface shows no errors.

IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers: Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller I have my SATA drives configured as 1 stand alone for boot C: and the other three in RAID 5 configuration. Win 7 wants an updated driver but I can not locate any as all scans for updated driver come back empty. This is an onboard controller on a MSI P45 Nero3 board.Any assistance would be appreciated.
