I am trying to update Halo: combat evolved, but whenever it trys to update it will download the update then execute it then it wil ask for admin rights. Well I have admin rights and I even tell it to run with admin rights. I also have UAC disabled, and yet I cannot update the game. Has anyone else out there been able to succesfully update?
I can't update halo Combat Evolved, the update starts and opens 'chktrust.exe' which proceeds to crash and stops the update. I've searched google and microsoft answers, and the KB articles related to halo, with no luck at all. I even went and bought a new copy of the game and had the same problem. Both copys install and update on my other computer with no problem, which is running win 7 x64. The one I'm having the trouble with is running win 7 home premium x86, it's an eeepc 1201n (dual core atom netbook with nVidia ION). I have had no other problems with the netbook other than this one with halo, other games update fine everything runs great no bluescreens or other crashes, everything is updated and I keep my computers clean and in working order.
I have discovered that the XP mode under windows 7 does not support the use of game controls becasue they are HID devices. Would love to play these old flight simulator games again without having to format another drive into XP.
I finally broke down and bought Halo 2. All excited and got it installed. Go to run it and nothing happened. Mouse turned to the busy signal then reverted back to default. I checked task manager and watched the processes when I tried to run the game. It shows up for a while then just disappears. I've read all over the internet that people are easily running Halo 2 on Windows 7.

I'm wondering if the Optimus software is making Halo think that I don't have a sufficient video card since the nVidia card doesn't kick in until the game is running. I don't know what else it could be.
On closing down, a new computer with Win 7 Pro 64 bit downloads 44 updates correctly and then switches itself off. On booting up the following morning, it tries to install them but fails to do so and reverts to previous installation. This has happened two days running. Does anyone have an idea what is happening and how to get round it
Recently I upgrade my system from XP to 7, but then today I messed something up so I figured I would just reinstall it because I figured it would be easier. I was able to load XP back on alright, but when I went to use the upgrade discs to 7 is when I ran into problems. When I put the disc in it says loading files, and there is a progress bar at the bottom, and when that's done I get the "starting windows" text but Windows never starts.
i want to update my bios ( i have asrock motherboard N68-VS3 FX ) and i am a gamer who interested in performance i have bios ver 1.20 can i use the last bios update 1.70 ? or i have to download all the previous updates first what i mean is the update cumulative?
I need to update all my drivers. I have tried to do it the traditional way through the control panel but my drivers claim to not need updating. Is there another fix?
I would prefer not to download driver update software that requires me to pay them for updating my drivers.

i have updates but when i update windows it comes back saying that some updates did not finish or it says there was an error. Could this problem cose visual studio not to install to because im trying to install 2012 and 2011 and just a back screen comes up saying Visual Studio and then its gone and nothing happens, is there something wrong with my windows 7.
I used to try to keep all of my drivers up to date with the latest release. Earlier this year my video card died. I found out that there had been a bad driver released that altered fan operation. I think that may have been the real cause of the card failure.Since then I've wondered about that. I think if you're not having any issues maybe the best policy might be "If it ain't broke don't fix it".
After running Windows Update I hit the restart button and get the dialog "Windows is Configuring your Computer 15% Complete". Finally after a while it says "Shutting Down" with the spinning circle, but never shuts down. After 90 minutes or so I shut down with the power button. On restart I get the message Windows did not shut down normally. It only happens after the updates. Normally it shuts down fine
This is an old HP PC I have recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I have to say it has never run betterI have an ASUSTek A7N8X-LA motherboard with ver. 3.05 BIOS and an AMD Athlon™ 2600+ processorI want to upgrade to the latest BIOS that supports SSE2 instructions (for game playing purposes), however, I have run into a snag that the most recent BIOS ver 3.21 is still only XP compatible. Neither ASUS or HP are willing to provide any free support. This is somewhat frustrating as the BIOS in situ appears to be the original 2003 version. I could have easily updated this to the latest version before I upgraded the OS to Windows 7, but now it is to late.
For a couple of weeks now, I've had these windows updates that wouldn't finish installing. I've been trying the recommended solutions that I could find but nothing really helps.
I've tried repairing the Microsoft .NET framework but it fails to repair for some unknown reason.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled it both manually and through windows updater, both failed.
I've read security tips that urge you to update your drivers. Why is this important from a security standpoint? How can outdated drivers' vulnerabilities be exploited?
Really know nothing re Drivers, except that it is apparently a good idea, always, to use the latest.
Anyway, was thinking of possibly downloading the latest drivers for my Radeon graphics card from the ATI site.
(But my questiosn really relates to any drivers, not just those for my graphics card)
My understanding is that one is supposed to delete the present drivers from the control panel prior to downloading and installing the new ones.
BTW: I looked in "Control Panel," but it is not clear to me how one deletes, safely, the present drivers for a particular program. How is this done, please ?
So, what happens immediately after the deletion of the present drivers before any new ones are installed ?
Will my graphics card (or any other program where I have removed them) still function even without "any" drivers at this point ? How is it possible ?
If someone could explain this for me, would be appreciative.
Also, I read that one should use in addition a "driver cleaner".
Why is this (also) necessary ?
What would be your recommendation for a good free or inexpensive one that is
Ok I've had some serious issues with running itunes & my iphone, syncing, writing errors etc.
The guys on the apple forum said to try and update my bios.
So I went to asus' website, found the drivers etc under my particular mobo.
Now I was given two .zip files, I've attached them because once I open the rar/zip files I dont know what to use to then run them with so I can update the mobo?
The first one is listed on their website under the category:
BIO S (5) [BIOS HISTORY]
and the other is listed under
BIOS-UTLITIES
I assume I should install both of these since they both deal with the bios?
I saw several of threads saying that, updating your BIOS in the Asus P8Z68-V PRO, would stabilize your system and have better effectivity and such things. If you direct to this page (Link), and scroll down a little, choose Windows 7 64-bit (as it's my system), and click + on the BIOS utility. Would it be the best idea? Is there any danger in doing it?
I've been floating around seven forums for awhile as a guest because i could get most of the info i wanted by not having to ask. It's come to a point now where i would like a second opinion(s) on updating my Motherboard chipset, Basically ive installed a new/old (depends on how you look at it) and have not installed any drivers for the chipset from ASUS. My Motherboard is this ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download M4A77TD and the drivers are kind of out of date on the ASUS site but i did find AMD do chipset drivers too AMD Chipset Drivers now i'm unsure or at least i need a second opinion(s) on this but would it be ok to install the AMD version as they seem up to date or should i stick to the ASUS site?
I'm looking to update my windows 7 home premium from 32bit to 64bit. My question is, will this affect all the partitions on my hdd? Its 1TB split into D:100GB for the OS, D:200GB for games and the other E: for music, movies etc. I only ask because it would be a pain to back up everything or can I get away with just backing up the C: drive.
I've searched on various forums and have had mixed results from years of this similar problem arising on XP and Vista as well. My Media Center no longer updates the program guide, making media center essentially useless. I've tried re-setting it like others suggested, but now it gets stuck at "Downloading TV Setup Data".
Everytime I try to access the program guide, it pops up a message saying my list is expired and needs to be updated, but it never actually updates. My internet connection is fine, the system is fine. Nothing has changed to potentially cause this conflict to arise. Is this a problem Microsoft has addressed or? Any help on fixing this would be appreciated, as I rely on MC to act as a DVR.
I created a five year pro forma financial model for my business. The spreadsheet makes extensive use of worksheet formulas and macros. I also added a sheet to track actuals (numbers extracted, by hand, from QuickBooks monthly).Certain formulas in the spreadsheet are based on values that do not change over time. For example, I assume that my widgets will sell for some unit price and monthly revenue forecasts are calculated as the projected sales volume times the unit price. Here's the problem - let's assume that my sales price changes at some point in time, after sales revenue has been generated. If I simply change the price, which is applied globally, then the historical 'projections' will be wrong.Just to be clear: When the model was first built, it assumed that widgets sell for $100 apiece. Assume that unit sales are the same as the month number. Thus, my revenue for the first six months would be $100, $200, $300, $400, $500, and $600. Assume that for the first three months, I hit my revenue numbers. In this case, the sheet that tracks actuals would show a $0 difference, for each of the first three months, between projected revenue and actual revenue. Since business is doing so well, I decide to increase the price of the widgets to $150 on a forward-going basis. Suddenly, the spreadsheet now shows that I failed to meet projections for the first three months, when, in fact, I did meet them!It seems to me that there should be some way to lock cells in the spreadsheet based on the current date. For example, when I open the spreadsheet in June, I should be able to programmatically protect cells from May and earlier. Is this possible?
