View 3 RepliesOn closing down, a new computer with Win 7 Pro 64 bit downloads 44 updates correctly and then switches itself off. On booting up the following morning, it tries to install them but fails to do so and reverts to previous installation. This has happened two days running. Does anyone have an idea what is happening and how to get round it

I was able to load XP back on alright, but when I went to use the upgrade discs to 7 is when I ran into problems. When I put the disc in it says loading files, and there is a progress bar at the bottom, and when that's done I get the "starting windows" text but Windows never starts.

I need to update all my drivers. I have tried to do it the traditional way through the control panel but my drivers claim to not need updating. Is there another fix?
I would prefer not to download driver update software that requires me to pay them for updating my drivers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI used to try to keep all of my drivers up to date with the latest release. Earlier this year my video card died. I found out that there had been a bad driver released that altered fan operation. I think that may have been the real cause of the card failure.Since then I've wondered about that. I think if you're not having any issues maybe the best policy might be "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

Finally after a while it says "Shutting Down" with the spinning circle, but never shuts down. View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is an old HP PC I have recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I have to say it has never run betterI have an ASUSTek A7N8X-LA motherboard with ver. 3.05 BIOS and an AMD Athlon™ 2600+ processorI want to upgrade to the latest BIOS that supports SSE2 instructions (for game playing purposes), however, I have run into a snag that the most recent BIOS ver 3.21 is still only XP compatible. Neither ASUS or HP are willing to provide any free support. This is somewhat frustrating as the BIOS in situ appears to be the original 2003 version. I could have easily updated this to the latest version before I upgraded the OS to Windows 7, but now it is to late.

I've tried repairing the Microsoft .NET framework but it fails to repair for some unknown reason.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled it both manually and through windows updater, both failed.
I'm running Windows 7 Starter on a netbook and can't get Windows updates.

View 1 Replies View RelatedReally know nothing re Drivers, except that it is apparently a good idea, always, to use the latest.
Anyway, was thinking of possibly downloading the latest drivers for my Radeon graphics card from the ATI site.
(But my questiosn really relates to any drivers, not just those for my graphics card)
My understanding is that one is supposed to delete the present drivers from the control panel prior to downloading and installing the new ones.
BTW: I looked in "Control Panel," but it is not clear to me how one deletes, safely, the present drivers for a particular program. How is this done, please ?
So, what happens immediately after the deletion of the present drivers before any new ones are installed ?
Will my graphics card (or any other program where I have removed them) still function even without "any" drivers at this point ? How is it possible ?
If someone could explain this for me, would be appreciative.
Also, I read that one should use in addition a "driver cleaner".
Why is this (also) necessary ?
What would be your recommendation for a good free or inexpensive one that is
also safe ?
I've been wanting to update my BIOS & ChipSet (not sure if same thing?) for sometime now
I've been on the ASUS website to search for them, but they are NOT doing any Windows 7 X64 drivers.
Dose anyone know any alternatives?
Ok I've had some serious issues with running itunes & my iphone, syncing, writing errors etc.
The guys on the apple forum said to try and update my bios.
So I went to asus' website, found the drivers etc under my particular mobo.
Now I was given two .zip files, I've attached them because once I open the rar/zip files I dont know what to use to then run them with so I can update the mobo?
The first one is listed on their website under the category:
BIO S (5) [BIOS HISTORY]
and the other is listed under
BIOS-UTLITIES
I assume I should install both of these since they both deal with the bios?
I saw several of threads saying that, updating your BIOS in the Asus P8Z68-V PRO, would stabilize your system and have better effectivity and such things. If you direct to this page (Link), and scroll down a little, choose Windows 7 64-bit (as it's my system), and click + on the BIOS utility. Would it be the best idea? Is there any danger in doing it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to update my windows 7 home premium from 32bit to 64bit. My question is, will this affect all the partitions on my hdd? Its 1TB split into D:100GB for the OS, D:200GB for games and the other E: for music, movies etc.
I only ask because it would be a pain to back up everything or can I get away with just backing up the C: drive.
I've searched on various forums and have had mixed results from years of this similar problem arising on XP and Vista as well. My Media Center no longer updates the program guide, making media center essentially useless. I've tried re-setting it like others suggested, but now it gets stuck at "Downloading TV Setup Data".
Everytime I try to access the program guide, it pops up a message saying my list is expired and needs to be updated, but it never actually updates. My internet connection is fine, the system is fine. Nothing has changed to potentially cause this conflict to arise. Is this a problem Microsoft has addressed or? Any help on fixing this would be appreciated, as I rely on MC to act as a DVR.
I created a five year pro forma financial model for my business. The spreadsheet makes extensive use of worksheet formulas and macros. I also added a sheet to track actuals (numbers extracted, by hand, from QuickBooks monthly).Certain formulas in the spreadsheet are based on values that do not change over time. For example, I assume that my widgets will sell for some unit price and monthly revenue forecasts are calculated as the projected sales volume times the unit price. Here's the problem - let's assume that my sales price changes at some point in time, after sales revenue has been generated. If I simply change the price, which is applied globally, then the historical 'projections' will be wrong.Just to be clear: When the model was first built, it assumed that widgets sell for $100 apiece. Assume that unit sales are the same as the month number. Thus, my revenue for the first six months would be $100, $200, $300, $400, $500, and $600. Assume that for the first three months, I hit my revenue numbers. In this case, the sheet that tracks actuals would show a $0 difference, for each of the first three months, between projected revenue and actual revenue. Since business is doing so well, I decide to increase the price of the widgets to $150 on a forward-going basis. Suddenly, the spreadsheet now shows that I failed to meet projections for the first three months, when, in fact, I did meet them!It seems to me that there should be some way to lock cells in the spreadsheet based on the current date. For example, when I open the spreadsheet in June, I should be able to programmatically protect cells from May and earlier. Is this possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using 64-bit Windows 7 and 32-bit Microsoft Office. For a long time I had noticed that the jump list for Excel was not updating in the Start menu. After a lot of research I have made sure that the settings have been made for the lists to actually show, and set the number of documents to show. Jump lists update fine for Word. The internal recent documents in Excel update fine too. However, "Recent documents" in the Start menu doesn't update for Excel files. I have also gone to the various locations recommended and deleted the files to clear the jump lists. That did the job of clearing the lists, but whereas Word, for example, has built up its list again, Excel is still showing nothing. I am opening Excel from the Start menu usually, and it makes no difference whether I open a file from a shortcut, double-click in Explorer or from within Excel, the file never appears in the jump list.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if anybody can help with the following.
I'm running Win7 Home 32-bit with all of the latest updates and also have the latest version of iTunes installed. I'm trying to connect an iPhone to my PC, via iTunes, but it is not recognised by iTunes, and I keep getting an error saying that it cannot read the iPhone.
However, the iPhone does appear in Windows Explorer (apparently as a camera, as I can read the DCIM file and look at the photos there), but as the iPhone is not jailbroken I cannot see any other files. The iphone is running iOS5.
From searching online, it appears that the problem may be that Windows thinks it is a camera, and has atatched a particular driver to it (an MTP driver). Others also suggest that I need to have the phone installed with a different driver (usbappl)
If I uninstall the phone or try and automatically update the driver then it says that there is no better driver.
I have also tried to specifically update it with the usbappl driver (by updaing the driver and using the "have disk" option and then browsing to where the usbappl driver is installed). In this case I get an error saying that "the folder specified doesn't contain a compatible driver for your device).
how I can get Windows to update with the correct driver, or some other way of getting iTunes to see the iPhone.
Sercurity update for Microsoft visual C++ 2010 Service Pack 1 Redustributable Package KB2565063. this wants to update each and everytime I shut down my computer, I have checked to see if it has updated successfully - yes it has. It does this each and every day. How do I stop it (that's if I should)
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe weirdest thing happened to my Thinkpad T510 when I was updating my new Blackberry 9900 yesterday where I left my computer on while it was updating and went to bed. I woke up and my girlfriend closed the lid and when I reopened it there was a BSOD. Idiotically I didn't take a picture of it but once I tried restarting the computer it got stuck at the Windows boot screen where the Windows logo glows. I tried restarting again and I chose to go into Startup recovery provided by the Thinkvantage software. I left it there for the whole day when it was attempting to fix disk errors but all it did was just continue the scanning mode, and when I tried to cancel I couldn't. I restarted once again and tried to go into Rescue and Recovery mode that Thinkpads have and when I got in I got an error message:
