Aug 23, 2011I finally broke down and bought Halo 2. All excited and got it installed. Go to run it and nothing happened. Mouse turned to the busy signal then reverted back to default. I checked task manager and watched the processes when I tried to run the game. It shows up for a while then just disappears. I've read all over the internet that people are easily running Halo 2 on Windows 7.
i7-2620M - 2.7ghz
nVidia GT 550m 1GB
4GB DDR3
Windows 7 Professional
I'm wondering if the Optimus software is making Halo think that I don't have a sufficient video card since the nVidia card doesn't kick in until the game is running. I don't know what else it could be.
Halo 2 Startup.exe Error
Sep 27, 2009everytime i try to open the halo2 startup.exe application for installation it gives me an error:
"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000006).)"
ive tried different computability modes and running it in admin mode isn't working either.
any suggestions?
Updating Halo Combat Evolved?
Feb 9, 2009I am trying to update Halo: combat evolved, but whenever it trys to update it will download the update then execute it then it wil ask for admin rights. Well I have admin rights and I even tell it to run with admin rights. I also have UAC disabled, and yet I cannot update the game. Has anyone else out there been able to succesfully update?

Mar 18, 2010I can't update halo Combat Evolved, the update starts and opens 'chktrust.exe' which proceeds to crash and stops the update. I've searched google and microsoft answers, and the KB articles related to halo, with no luck at all. I even went and bought a new copy of the game and had the same problem. Both copys install and update on my other computer with no problem, which is running win 7 x64. The one I'm having the trouble with is running win 7 home premium x86, it's an eeepc 1201n (dual core atom netbook with nVidia ION). I have had no other problems with the netbook other than this one with halo, other games update fine everything runs great no bluescreens or other crashes, everything is updated and I keep my computers clean and in working order.

Nov 5, 2009ok so i have a problem thats been driving me insane. my toshiba F50 was working totally fine until suddenly during games my GPU started overheating quickly during games (Was not doing this before) i noticed that my fan didnt seem to be spinning as fast as before. i cleaned it still no avail, tried riva tuner and ntune and all of that jazz and all of them have the fan control options greyed out? (cannot use them)i noticed that when i start the laptop the POST test on the fans guns the fan to 100% speed so i know its capable of doing it. it seems like the fan doesnt know to speed up when it gets hot and it keeps shutting my system down and i reallllly dont feel like damaging my GPU. i tried rolling back my drivers and running the latest drivers.

Windows Restarts During Games Only?
Jun 3, 2012I have been having some ongoing issues with my PC. The latest is that it will restart itself consistently whenever I am playing any game from Shogun 2 to Starcraft 2 to Skyrim to League of Legends. It does not BSOD, it only restarts itself whenever I am in game. Oct 9, 2012I've tried 3 games so far. Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs doesn't work but Botanicula does. Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs are complaining for missing .dll files but I doubt that Windows 7 optimized .dll files will solve the issue.
The games' setup were run on Windows 7 targeted to an external drive, and I'm trying to use the same drive with the Windows 7 games installed on Windows 8 right now. So do I have to reinstall them on Windows 8?
Note that the Windows 7 Compatibility Mode for the .exe files didn't work.
