View 1 RepliesMy computer recently told me to install some updates, I usually don't bother and just leave it but this time I installed them. However, after the updates had installed, I went back to my laptop to see that the screen resolution is 'stretched'. I have done the following
- Set it to the highest resolution
- Made icons small instead of medium
The highest resolution it will allow is 1204 x 768 but this is not what it used to be. I have no idea what the old setting was but I do know this look isn't right. I also started my computer in safe mode, and it had a higher resolution when I edited the settings that was the right one but when I restarted my laptop, it went back to the smaller size. Web pages don't look right and there is always a horizontal scroll bar (no my page isn't zoomed in, the toolbars, tabs everything is different).
I have a windows 7 vista 64bit (or 62, not sure) and for a while now I have been have the same problem... first of all, windows updates keep on failing! practically all of them. After the update, it requires me to restart the computer because some of the updates can not be completed while the system is running. As it reboots, it goes to screen where the resolution is really zoomed in, and it says the computer did not start up properly (start up repair).
This happens every time it makes me restart or when I shut it down. (So I just leave it on sleep, but that never works cuz there's an automated windows update restart timer). Also heard that I needed an anti virus program so I got one. VIPRE - The first attempt. Windows update. Restarts. Start up repair. Then VIPRE is completely gone from my computer. (Not just vipre but some other programs as well). Microsoft security essentials, the second attempt. Same thing happens. its completely gone. As if I never had it.
I have just bought a key for Windows 7 UltimateBut for some reason i thing that may be MSDN Key not retail.I would like to know he following things:1.Is there a way to find out if this key is retail,OEM or MSDN?2.In case that this key gets blocked from Microsoft, will i be notified by Microsoft?3.In case my key gets blocked will i still beable to get updates and will my Microsoft Geuine logo will be still on my PC?4.Is Microsoft will deactivate my licence?and i need to buy new one?I have just realise that the seller site is not that genuine, but i have already bought the key,so i think i learn my lesson.I just hope that the key they have provided me with is Genuine not some used key which will be blocked
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed GTX670 SLI in my machine and run some benchmarks to test it is all working.
Afterwards, I did a clean format complete re-install with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 with updates. It appears now when I shut down my machine, windows turns off the display and seems to shut down but does NOT turn off the fans/LEDs on my computer.
I then re-installed a clean windows 7, installed my drivers ONLY (no windows updates) and it shuts down/turns the computer off fine.

View 7 Replies View RelatedHow can I manually download Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit updates to my hard drive/External Hard Drive?
I want to choose only those that I need so I can easily install them whenever I reformat my PC.
My OS is Windows 7 32-bit. I'm using 2 monitors. The first one is from my laptop, Thinkpad T400 which has a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels. The second one is a 18.5-inch LCD (G900HD from BENQ), which has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
I need to use both of them at the same time (to view more windows simultaneously). We all know that this is possible if we choose the right option in "Control PanelAppearance and PersonalizationDisplayScreen Resolution".
My problem is that I cannot choose the right setting for my second resolution, because its native resolution (1366 x 768) does not appear in the suggested list, as you can see from the below picture:
As a result, text and images displayed in my second monitor seem to be blurry. So my question is how to set my second monitor's resolution back to its original state?
I am confused by the screen resolution of my Windows 7 Media Centre PC. I'm running Win 7 Pro with a 16:9 widescreen monitor which claims to have a native resolution of 1366 x 768. I've never been able to set that in Windows or the video driver.7MC has the monitor set to 1024 x 768 (4:3) but nevertheless shows a fullscreen image with a 16:9 aspect ratio and works perfectly. When I first installed Win 7 the desktop was also set to 1024 x 768 but the image was stretched horizontally so that it filled the widescreen but was horribly distorted.I discovered that setting the Windows desktop to 1148 x 648 (16:9) almost fills the whole display, just leaving thin black lines on either side and filling it vertically. As this is the correct aspect ratio I was happy to live with the slight reduction in size. 7MC is unaffected and continues using the whole screen at, presumably, some secret alternative to 1024 x 768.Since the 648 vertical resolution is being stretched to 768 to occupy the full height of the monitor I presume the 1148 horizontal resolution is being stretched by the same factor. This would make the horizontal resolution 1361, very close to the 1366 x 768 the monitor wants.
I took screenshots of both the MCE screen and the Windows desktop, expecting that the image dimensions would be related to one of the preceding resolutions. However, they are both 1952 x 648, with the actual screen image in the left hand 1148 x 648 area and an empty desktop section to the right. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. Somewhere and somehow there's a lot of rescaling or cropping of the monitor image and I'd love to know what's going on. I need to know this because I'm trying to set TunerfreeMCE up and want to tell it the screen coordinates of various buttons on a flash catchup service for a particular channel so it can trigger play etc. I just don't know which coordinate set to use!The display adapter is a Radeon 9600...did I mention this was old? I had exactly the same problems with Vista previously, have just upgraded and would like finally to get it right.
How do I add a custom screen resolution in windows 7? my screen is a 22" but I recently ordered a new cable and since then it will only work on displays up to 19"

But I re-installed the OS recently again and now is showing max resolution is 1024x768. Because of this I am getting blurred videos. how can I change the resolution back to 1366x768.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Envy 14. It has been working fine, except for when I reboot. For some reason, when I reboot, my screen goes black. My homescreen inevitably pops up, and a popup says that it was a graphics card error. This is fine, because I still get my stuff back. However..Today, windows 7 (x64) said it had updates, so I update and reboot. After the reboot, my computer was in a completely different resolution (800x600).I tried right clicking and going to "screen resolution", but it wouldn't let me change back to my old resolution (1366x768 or something like that). It says that the only other setting is 1024x768. I have full administrative rights, I haven't installed or used any programs except the windows install. The last program I used was GIMP. Why won't it let me change back my resolution?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've tried online update and later tried to download drivers on hp site with no success at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore upgrade I had a max screen size of 1280 x 800, and if I set to a smaller size, the image still filled the screen. This size is of course WXGA . Since upgrade I have a max of 1028 x 768 which does not fill the screen, and if I choose a smaller one,e.g. 800 x 600, the image visibly shrinks still further. I am told that I may need a new driver ; now the machine specification, and the label on the machine say the graphics is Nviidia GeForce Go 7400 GPU , but when I look at Device Manager it says that the Display adaptor is " Standard VGA Graphics Adaptor" Have I somehow ( in the upgrade) lost the Nvidia set and gone to something else on the motherboard ? how can I get my full screen back ?

View 3 Replies View Relatedfor the past month i have had an issue where before the log in screen would show, it would be a blank screen with a cursor, that i could move. (It worked normal in safe mode) I normally would just ignore this problem and it seemed to go back to normal after a little while. Well yesterday it didn't go away, so i went online looking for a solution, in safe mode. I've read to disable/enable drivers, re-install drivers, just plenty of things. And the result of all this is that my screen resolution wont go back to normal, and there is a black border around my screen, around a half inch. Also, my computer has been running EXTREME slow lately.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought 5 computers with windows7home and am trying to upgrade to pro. the seller sold me 7pro install disks rather than upgrades. When I install them, my screen resolution is stretched and the computer no longer sees any internet connections nor recognizes any communication devices. It loads windows directly without giving me a chance to go into the bios. It did store the home version in a .old format, but I cant find a way to uninstall pro.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have to quick here but I had an 'old' computer hanging around my house.
Atom Processor
512MB RAM
an ASUS EEE PC.
I installed Windows Thin PC on it, a more 'compact' version of Windows 7. All the drivers automatically installed but the VGA driver doesn't work.Basicly when I [Right Click -> Screen Resolution] the box with the resolutions is grey and stuck to 800x600.I know it can do 1024x768 'cause it did so on XP but I had battery/ACPI issues. So I moved to Windows Thin PC.I have tried a number of registry hacks but nothing works...
PS: Its an Asus Eee PC 900
i did install chipset and display drivers, but still i couldnt have good resolution for my toshiba sattelite
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently loaded Windows 7 (Home Premium) on to a Dell Dimension 2400 (32 bit). Installation went smoothly but screen resolution is stuck at 480 x 640 which makes the computer practically unworkable. I understand (but am nor sure) that Dell does not support Windows 7 on this machine and the only solution is a new video card.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFew days ago I caught a virus (at least I believe I did)... Used Malwarebytes and found 7 infected files in my Windows Folder. The first few syptoms of my OS was the resolution of the screen changed to 1024x768 (it should be 1920x1080) and is stuck there. The refresh rate changed from 60Hz to 59Hz, when I tried to change it back, the screen just flashes black but the tab still says 59Hz. So I reinstalled Windows 7 with the upgrade option from the OS disk, hoping to fix everything. But it didn't...
My bios was also messed up, everything was reset and edges of my screen was cutten off. The booting animation of Windows 7 is now changed to the Vista's booting animation. I reflashed the bios and that fixed that, now I've done a clean install of Windows 7, formating C: then installing. But all problems still persists... even there is no more virus found by 5 anti-virus programs. I'm still stuck in 1024x768, Windows 7 thinks my hdmi cable is apparently a dvi cable, the refresh rate is still 59Hz, the booting animation is the Vista's one.
For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

I have recently been running my computer for really long periods and have only just turned it off last night. When I turned it on this morning it did a file corrupt scan which sometimes randomly happens. When windows fully loaded the screen resolution had been changed, almost to safe mode resolution.
So iI have tried changing the resolution (Normal is 1920x1080), with no luck. Even though it says it is on 1920x1080 (recommmended), I know for a fact that it's not actually that resolution. You can tell by this photo that the desktop is way to large for 1920x1080. Unfortunetly I do not have a photo of my original desktop resolution .I have installed the latest NVIDIA graphics driver, and it is the right driver for my card. Also checked all windows updates.
