I am trying to zip a folder. I know that there is supposed to be an option where you right click send to and send the file to a zip or compressed folder. I can do this on my computer at work. However that option is not coming up on my home laptop.
View 2 RepliesWindows 7 has this neat feature where I can navigate into a compressed (zip) file from Windows Explorer. The icon appears like a folder with a zipper through it & I can just navitage.I can't edit a file in the zip folder directly. I have to first copy it out of the zip, edit it, then copy back into the zip. What am I missing here? If I can overwrite a file why not just allow me to edit it?

Being locked I cannot watch the videos or play the music with manually unlocking them first. So is there a way to revert them back to their unlocked state? There has to be an easier way than manually doing it... because I have around 50GB of music... that would take an eternity. Here's a screenshot for reference: [URL].

When it appeared it was a new desktop and a message on the task bar stated "you can not access you files and folders". I have followed a few steps about unlocking locked accounts but my account wasn't locked. A few other things have been happening over the last week so I am worried I might have a virus.

but I could easily connect to it using automount maker or in finder with go -> connect to server. I haven't change anything (at least as far as i know) and now my mac can't find or connect to my Windows 7 desktop...!
my desktop see's my mac on the network and can connect to its shared folders but my mac can't see the desktop. my other laptops at home runing windows xp and ubuntu can see the desktop too, so i don't know what is wrong! workgroup is the same.

View 1 Replies View RelatedPrinter plugged into Win7 box - how to print from remote XP machine? describes an original difficulty I had getting remote computers (laptops and desktops) to print to a USB printer connected to my Windows 7 box. Read far enough and you'll see that I solved that problem using Networking issue - Win7 printer, XP remote machines.Fast forward 13 or so months. Since that time I have replaced the printer, I've had a motherboard and processor issue with my box (since fixed), and no interruption of things working as they should. My printer - Canon ip4800 series - is USB hardwired to my Windows 7 computer, and the other home computers - two Windows 7 laptops, an XP box, and an XP netbook - can print to the printer, and view files on my Windows 7 machine, over our wireless home network. And that's been constant through the changes described.
Then yesterday, for no known reason, my daughter's Windows 7 laptop stopped being able to print. She'd send jobs to the correct printer, but they'd just queue up, with the queue visible from her machine, but not when I looked at the printer from my machine (that is looking at the print queue from her machine shows the jobs, but looking at it from mine shows no jobs).Nothing I did would result in stuff from her machine, from any application, to go to the printer.I finally deleted the printer from her machine, figuring I'd just add it back.I try adding a printer to the laptop, it doesn't find the printer on the list of available printers. When I try adding it by typing the name - \mywin7canon ip4800 series - that fails.When I look at "network" from her laptop, my computer shows up, but if I click on it, Windows says it can't connect.
When I type ping her_computer from a DOS box, it can't find it - but when I type ping any_other_computer it finds those.Her laptop can get on the internet from our home wireless network. All the other computers in the house - Windows 7 and XP - can access shared files on my PC, and more importantly, print across the network to my USB printer.Please, patiently and precisely, guide me through stuff to check on my PC and her laptop, to get this working again. I've been through the network and sharing center on my PC and the settings are correct.Again, as it is right now, my printer is not defined on her laptop.Final, cro-magnon- level question here: If I did a system restore on her laptop, back to a point when it had been able to print, might that fix things?

I have added it to my home workgroup and shared out some folders. I have turned off Windows firewall, however if I try to view the shared folders from other machines (XP) on the home network I get asked for a login and password.
Yet if I browse the other XP machines from the Windows 7 machine I can see all their folders. I can't find a setting anywhere that would seem to address this!
These folders are making my games not have sound. I tried deleting them but this just pops up.

Since I usually run no less than 5 or 6 main programs and a score of smaller utilities I always assumed tat it was one of may many programs blocking the Moving of folders and files. Apparently not. View 9 Replies View RelatedI was trying to relocate some of my personal data folders in my User Profile folder (My Music, My Videos, My Pictures). I right clicked on the folder, selected "Properties" and then selected the "Location" tab from the two rows of tabs. I set the location to my D drive (non-system drive). Clicked "Apply" and "OK". A My Music folder already existed on this drive. Got the prompts for "Do you want to move the files in this folder to the new location? (clicked Yes)" That worked for the My Music folder. Then I tried My Pictures folder... same right click, Properties, Location. Set the path to my P drive where I had an already existing My Pictures folder.
Got the same prompts for "Do you want to move the files in this folder to the new location? (clicked Yes)" Then I got a warning message that said "Unable to copy folder where one already exists (or some verbage similar to that)". So I tried it again. Nothing. Closed out of all folders and then reopened to try again. When I right clicked on My Pictures in my User Profile and selected properties, there was just a single row of tabs with no Location tab. There was no way to change the path of the folder. ??? Puzzling. So I am looking for a way to repair the User Profile folder and reenable the Location tab on the folder properties. Just did a clean install last night

I find many windows programs create files that are not hidden but start with ".", and while tecnically this is a problem with the program, almost all of them do this so it would be very nice if windows handled this correctly.

I think I am going to have to take a couple of days to figure this out.
Couple of quick questions: 1. In the search results window, I RMB a file and select "open in new window". the new window address bar does not contain a path. It contains some search info. How do I open in a new window and have the path in the address bar?
2. It appears the search does not limit itself to file names. It is also searching for contents. How do I prevent it from searching contents.
