I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

I was trying to reclaim some unallocated space on the drive and in the process seem to have lost boot manager, so it won't load Windows. If I put the disc in, it's not able to automatically able to repair because it says the repair disc I'm using is not compatible with the OS I have installed. This is the same disc I used to install Win 7 in the first place. Tried using cmd prompt to reload boot manager manually, and it completes the operation successfully but still says bootmgr is missing at start up.What's scaring me is that if I try to just install Win 7 again (onto the unallocated space), the hard drive just turns off and the hdd light comes on solid. This is when I choose 'Install Now' from the opening screen before selecting partitions etc. I'm typing this post from a spare hdd. The only thing I can think off at this point is the get an enclosure and recover my files; then wipe the hdd in question and reinstall Win 7.

I have tried reinstalling my windows 7 onto my SSD and am having no luck. I believe I have went through most guides / troubleshooting I could find on this website as well as others. After attempting to use my original cd with no luck, I followed the steps only to have the cd go no further than 73% of the step after "copying windows files". I then burnt / mounted, whatever you'd like to call it (properly) my Win 7 to my Thumb drive and at first windows said BOOTGR is missing.
So than I read to put in the cd, repair it using a command prompt "bootrec /fixboot" which it replied successful. After which I reinserted the flash-drive only to get the same error. I have tried partitioning, "clean all" (not in that order), multiple cds, thumb drives, my friends window 7 cd for giggles to see if I would have any luck, removing a stick of ram, all usb items but the kb/m. Desperate after literally 8 hours of working on this I tried my old copy of windows xp which gave me a blue screen of sorts.

I have a brand new Sony SVT13112FXS - hard drive is a hybrid of 500 GB HDD and 32 GB SDD.I was attempting to reformat it to get all of the anti-virus stuff off, except when I tried to reformat no disks were shown in the reformat tool. It asked for drivers, so I assumed I'd need to install the SATA/chipset drivers. I downloaded them from the Sony website but it wouldn't allow me to install them (from a flash drive). Specifically the error is "No drives were found. Click load driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation."In my troubleshooting I (stupidly) marked the wrong partition as active and got the dreaded "bootmgr is missing" upon restart. I attempted to repair using the windows 7 disk as a recovery tool and selected "startup repair" 3 times, but it still does not work.I am able to get into command prompt and I am assuming I can inactivate the (wrong) active partition there. However, when I go into DISKPART and type "list disk", all that shows up is my flash drive that I am attempting to install windows from - the computers hard drive does NOT show up here.I will also happily completely reformat instead of repairing, but I cannot do that since I can't get the disks to show up in the reformat tool.

recently my laptop has stopped working completely. It previously had Windows Vista Home Basic 64bit installed. Eventually, it stopped starting up and just remained stuck at loading drivers, no matter how I went about starting it (Safe Mode, Safe Mode with command prompt, normally, etc). I decided it was time for me to ditch Vista anyways and procured a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit disk from a family member. After some initial troubles with installation I followed online advice to format my computer first. After some navigating I managed to open up the command prompt and format successfully. However, the problem I had before still remains; once I go to 'Install Now' and then 'Custom', it asks me 'Where do you want to install Windows?'. At the bottom of the screen, it notes that 'No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation'. Now, I've gotten drivers on several different devices, whether it be SD card, USB, or CD. None of it worked.I've seen that many others have had this same problem, but never under the same circumstances as mine. Here are the specs of my computer that I could gather from the PhoenixBIOS menu:
CPU Type: AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual-Core QL-64
CPU Speed: 2.10 GHz
IDEO Model Name: WDC WD3200BEKT-60V5T1-(S1)
ATAPI Model Name: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT20N-(S2)
System BIOS Version: V1.05
VGA BIOS Version: BK-ATI VER010.094.001.008.031368
KBC Version: 03.40
Product Name: NV52 Series

Ok i have windows 7, Recently i have found out that i have a full list of errors that happened pretty much overnight:Here's the list 1. I can't go onto Control Panel It say's " This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator" I AM THE ADMIN.. I am the only account too. 2. My Task bar is missing, When i go ctrl-alt-del i see no option to open up my task bar. [FIXED] 3. I cant RIGHT click on anything on my desktop, as well as my folders and stuff. Although i can right click while playing games or browsing the internet, so my mouse is definitely not broken. So u must be thinking, this guy has a virus for sure... Well if i do have a virus it must be made by ******* Bill Gates. Because i can't find it.I have the FULL version of Trend Micro Cillin as well as Norton 360, I've just recently downloaded Malvare Bytes, and that couldn't find anything as well. I've done a full system scam on both anti-virus programs, i see no viruses. I did get a virus a week ago, but Norton quickly picked it up, I'm thinking it may have changed a few settings in my computer before i managed to delete it.

I have an ASUS N51Vf on which I just changed a defective hard drive with a new one, same size and specs as the old. After a clean windows 7 install all was working fine. I created a System Restore Point. No errors reported, restore point created.I then tried to restore all my data and settings with a back up I had on a external hard drive. This back up has been made with LaCie Genie Back up Assistant, a program with decent review online. After having finished to restore the back up, I was asked to restart windows, which I did. Windows restarted but then it failed to log in giving an error (which appears to be quite common googling it). A window pop up saying "Interactive logon process initialization has failed. Please consult the event log for more details."If you say ok the windows keeps appearing again and again. There was no way to access windows whatever mode (safe, normal and all the other boot option appearing when pressing f8) I choosed. Startup repair was as well ineffective (since there was no problem in the startup process itself.)
People online reported the only way to fix this was to check the event log files on another computer. So I installed Ubuntu on the unallocated space I left when installing win 7, I copied the logs files, I went through all the errors in the event viewer of another computer, particularly those in application.evtx, I copied safe version of winlogon.exe logonUI.exe and userInit.exe on windows/system32 through Ubuntu but nothing worked. Same error preventing log in.I then went into the System Restore Point nasty affair. As I previously mentioned, I created this point prior to restore the LaCie backup. The Restore point was there, accessible through the standard recovery options. What appears is this: standard final window of System Restore and I couldn't select any of this drive and proceed. So I go to the Command Prompt and I realize that windows has been installed on D:, not on C:, which appears to be the system reserved partition with 70Mb free. Something standard when you install Windows 7 apparently. Since my backup was made copying files from C: and I didn't care for the path when restoring my LaCie backup, I thought I messed up things attempting to copy to the wrong drive, even though no error was reported to me.So I formatted everything, reinstalled windows paying attention not to create other partitions. Clean install, all went through fine. I check on Computer what's the windows unit label, and it is C indeed. I didn't check for the presence of other partitions. I re-restore files from the LaCie Backup. At the end I try to create a new System Restore point, but a weird error tells me that I can't. Already suspicious, I restart, to find myself on the exact same position as before, unable to login, unable to restore (both same as previously described) and, moreover, checking through command prompt, win 7 appears to be in the D: unit again with the C: set up to be the system reserved!!

My setup had an MBR issue a few days ago after installing Skyrim. I was unable to repair it using the windows 7 instal disc. I tried the automatic fix as well as bootrec.exe. After giving up and reinstalling a fresh windows 7, my rig has not been starting up properly. It insists on waking up from sleepwhen it was shutdown, i.e. Not sleeping. Well after a few days of this with no other problems, bootmgr can't be found again. Now, when I load the repair disc, it can't find my OS to even try a bootrec.exe on. But, when i go to load drivers the explorer window allows me to browse my c:/ drive and the installation is there. I would prefer to fix rather than reinstall due to a symantec DRM issue.
Windows 7 is on a 60 gb raid 0 setup (I know, i know, i deserve this for running raid 0)

The dialog box itself doesn't show how big the file is or the download speed or the time left. I also keep getting a message saying a program has corrutped my program setting.

i have a 2006 acer laptop that just recently decided not to get onto the internet. it will connect to the network but no internet. i have looked at more forums than i can count but to no avail. i will try to list the problems/symptoms but i am not familiar with programming language and don't know exactly what all the command prompts are suppoed to achieve and the like.-isatap ipv6 adapter is not working (some people say it does'nt matter but???)-ip address starts with 169-ipconfig /release and release6 does not workbecause "an address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint"-ipconfig /flushdns does not work because "function failed during execution"-cannot displaydns because "dns cache is unavailable"-cannot registerdns because "rpc server is unavailable"-checked my services and found some dependant ones that i could not manually start ERROR1075: DNS client service, tcp/ip netbios helper, routing and remote access, internetconnection sharing (ics). all failed to start with the same error code 1075-ERROR 10022- netlogon service-tried "netsh int ip reset" but reset echo request failed. "access denied". i am the admin for this computer. it worked the first time i tried it with no errors. now i get the failed echo message.
-cannot setclassid "as know adapter is in a state permissable for this action"-i saw something about the dhcp-read on one forum that people were having trouble after deleting norton(symantc) programs. i have deleted norton programs and think i got all of them (how to be sure?)-netsh winsock reset successfully-tried regrepair, regseeker, and a few of those "free download" programs that say they will fix your problems after you register/purchase them. i figure if the computer can stop working so easily i can get it to start as easily. maybe that's naivety speaking.-i have scanned my cpu for viruses (naturally) with 3-4 different programs (maybe norton would have found something).clean-thought it might have something to do with the registery since i had a nasty virus everal months ago that i think changed it somehow.-of course my system restore points are dated after this problem occured.-i bought the computer at staples and it did not come with a windows startup disc.
i can't think of any more though i know i've tried more than is listed. the dns and rpc servers seem to be the main coulprits but how do i fix that? also possibly the norton issue? i've read so many forums i'm seeing triple and everyone seems to suggest the same things. i've tried them so many times (to no avail). i've even changed the network adapters ipv6 and ipv4 adresses to 208.67.222.222 with the alternate. nothing. there has to be something i'm overlooking but what

I recently installed an update for Windows, and after the restart I was getting serious performance issues, (Which happens every time I update windows or a driver) and after uninstalling the update I get the following error when I try to run most games/programs: "The program can't start because DCIMAN32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."I searched for the file, and found it where it should be. After searching various forums for answers I tried to replace the .dll file, but it wouldn't let me. I get the message, "You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this file." After hitting continue I get the following message, "You require permission from TrustedInstaller to make changes to this file"I also tried downloading a program to try to fix this, but I don't want to have to pay for one to fix one file. I have never seen this error before. I have tried reinstalling a few of the programs, but that has not solved the issue. I also tried scanning for a virus, or other malicious software, but both Norton, and MalwareBytes didn't find anything.

I made the mistake of letting my sister-in-law use my computer (the one I use for work) to burn a CD. I thought she said burn a DVD, which is something I do all the time. However, apparently she downloaded a CD ripping program called CDEX (very legitimate -- doubtful of any viruses). In the process of ripping her CD to the desktop, the program froze up. The disc would not eject from the disc drive. So she called me over -- I couldn't get it to eject, either. I tried restarting the computer, but to no avail. I stuck a paperclip in the slot below the eject button and manually opened it -- but now my disc drive is gone. This is a new computer -- not even one year old yet. It's a Vostro 320 all-in-one desktop. It has Windows 7 and this is a DVD/RW drive. It is gone from the device manager completely. When I push the button to eject the disc drive, the light flashes green once, but never opens. If I manually open it and put a CD in there, nothing happens. It doesn't spin around like it normally does.

Her computer is an HP laptop it is runnung windows 7 . I have created the recovery disk( 32 bit) from online as that is what most sites said to do. After it said it was loading the windows files I clicked next. Then it said system recovery options. In the box it says (recovered) 292135 MB (d Local Disk. It is checked on use recovery tool taht can help fix problems starting windows. I click next. I get a pop up that says this version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair,So then I made the 64 bit recovery disk & restarted. I was unsure if it was 64 bit or 32 bit to start.

First off, why is reinstalling windows 7 such a pita? I've done it several times and it's soooooooo bad. With that aside, tonight I was attempting to reinstall 64 bit from 32 bit. I reformatted my hd using dos because advanced recovery simple does not work. After formatting and restarting I'm getting te bootmgr error. After reading countless threads with fixes nothing is helping. I CANNOT get past this error. I have the disc in, it won't go past the error. Pushing f2, f8, and f12 does not work. I can't do anything in the bios. Most of the solutions simply assume you can get PAST the error.
The next step I tried was unplugging the hd I formatted and installing to a different hd. This gives me an error of missing a device required. At this point I have no idea what to do besides maybe reformatting the hd again using another pc. Is there a recovery program I should dl to a blank cd?
