View 2 RepliesI have just bought a Toshiba Portege m800. it comes with Vista but I want to get rid of that and install Windows 7
I was wondering if there is anything I should know about compatability issues?
When I activate the power management drivers,my laptop does not last 5 minutes, it goes into hibernation. But when drivers are disabled, I can run on battery for more than an hour. Where can I get drivers that work, because, as long as I run like this, i cant monitor battery energy level?

I have seen this in a couple of forums, but could not find an adequate solution. I am having an issue connecting to wireless networks via the Atheros AR5007EG. I have tried going to atheros.cz among other sites looking for a working driver, but Windows 7 always says the driver is up to date. Strangely, I tooled around a few weeks ago and it was working, but it stopped. I went back and made sure I didn't install anything that day and nothing was installed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm on Windows 7 but it keeps automatically installing drivers from 2008 that are for Vista. I think this is one of the reasons I'm getting BSOD problems..And now it's saying they weren't installed correctly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been having intermittent disconnection issues with my wireless card, DWA-552. After having thoroughly researched on the subject, the conclusion drawn by many people is that dlink's drivers are inappropriate for the card. It was suggested to install the Atheros driver instead, which i proceeded to do. Much to my confusion, when i downloaded the AR5008 10.0.0.75 driver, i found no .exe file to easily setup the driver.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing an issue with build 7000 and the wireless card. It won't connect to different wireless networks automatically after putting the machine into standby. example, use the corporate network at the office, close the lid, bring the laptop home open the lid (resume from standby) it attempts to reconnect to the corporate wireless and never recovers. i get the same experience when going into standby at the office and returning to the office.
Oh, driver is from Microsoft version 1.0.0.7 date: 11/7/08, manufacture of card indicates: Atheros Communications Inc.

I have been working on an Emachines E627 with Win7 and have noticed my wireless speeds around around 10x slower than on dell laptop running XP. I have verified the slower speed using speedtest.net, also I have updated the driver for Atheros AR5B95 Wireless Network Adapter and the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter (which I have no idea what this one does as I disabled it and nothing changed???) and the Atheros ethernet controller just for fun.
I have also port forwarded the win7 and xp machine on my router but still receive slow speed on the win 7 machine. I am beginning to think that maybe the Atheros wireless adapter sucks? Also another thing the adaptor connection speed states 150 mbps where I am used to seeing the standard 54 mpbs. I am at a loss to what else I can change to speed the win 7 machine up to the speeds I get on my xp machine.....or does the atheros adapter just plain suck? I have turned off any power consumption savers for the adapter as well.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop and stuck windows 7 RTM 32 bit on it. All was well but now connecting wirelessly is slow. Like slower then 56k modem slow. I have a Dell 802.11n wireless mini card installed that works PERFECTLY under windows XP. I was getting 80 % signal strength under Win 7 and getting 1 mbps where as in XP I was getting 78 to 100 mbps with the same signal strength. Oh and ethernet works perfectly fine.
For a time I was able to download the corresponding vista driver from dell and then replace the driver that win 7 automatically installs for it, then flipped the card switch off and on and it would work like it should for a while, but then reverted to the same slow network speeds once the laptop was reset or turned off and on. Now flipping the switch or re-installing doesn't work either. I've tried resetting the router, no go and none of my other computers or products have a problem with it. I've tried doing a few things suggested in other posts, like assigning a static ip, disabling ipv6, etc... Nothing has worked.
I'd love someone who knows what it may be or has heard of this precise problem, although I think I may be stuck waiting until Win 7 makes it debut in Oct and until Dell releases a proper 7 driver for it.

I left my Toshiba Satellite mini laptop (NB255) with Windows 7 with my girlfriend while I am in Afghanistan. We skype all the time but she has a hard time using the laptop for browsing the internet. It constantly freezes and seems to be over loaded while running.I had this same issue while using it in Iraq for a year.I have guided her to clean up disk space, stop start up programs, deleted cookies, etc.Does anyone know how to help her speed this mini laptop up?? Also I am looking to buy another laptop with a max budget of 2500, I need a biometric scanner built in with a webcam, any suggestions??? I have always been fond of the Sony Vaios.
