Times Can We Clean Install Windows 7 On 1 Computer

Nov 1, 2011

I upgraded from Vista to 7 on my old motherboard which was successful. I then upgraded to a new motherboard so a clean installation had to be done by calling up Microsoft which was also successful. Both 32 bit versions. Now I want to do a clean install to 64 bit to take advantage of the extra RAM. Can I do this many installs? I still have the upgrade disc and product key. Also, with a previous clean install, all my old folders were compressed into a folder in the new install. Will this also happen when moving it to 64 bit? No changes to the hardware has been made.

Clean Install Of Windows 7 Two Times

Jan 12, 2012

Got a new hdd for the wifes laptop, installed windows 7 ultimate 64. Just to find out I typoed the user name at the beginning. Not wanting to be stuck with the registered user name i decided to reinstall the OS. To do my second install, I used gparted live to format my drives c partition, and d partition that Im planning to use for some backup stuff. Now when ever I turn the computer on, it brings up a screen in boot asking which OS i want to start. Both options are windows 7. how do I eliminate this issue without having to reinstall my OS, and reformat again?

Long Boot Times On New Computer After Install Of Equipment

Jul 9, 2012

I recently purchased a new PC and it was working very well the first few days. I eventually installed a power source and video card from my previous computer into my new computer, and I began to have issues. When I boot up computer, I will see a solid underscore for about at least a minute before it finally boots up. Previous to this, it would boot up in under 10 seconds. I installed an Antec earth watts 500 and a nvidia gts 450. I updated the drivers. Other factors: Installed avg free, malwarebytes free, installed a couple of games and some programs like MSI Afterburner. I scanned my entire system with both of the security programs listed earlier. I checked my connections inside the computer and everything is snug and secure. I couldn't see any issues.

Upgrade, Clean Install From Old Computer To New Computer

May 2, 2012

I purchased an HP latop right when Windows 7 was coming out and the HP laptop had Windows Vista when I bought it but I was sent a free upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate by HP during the time when they were selling laptops with Vista and sending free upgrades. So what I want to know since the fan stopped working some time ago, (cooling it with a small fan from Walmart sending air around and inside it somewhat) on the HP laptop I purchased and recieved the free upgrade. If I return the HP laptop to factory settings (did a complete backup when purchased) and put Vista back on it, can I use my Windows 7 Ultimate disk in a newly purchased laptop since it will still only be on one laptop since I am returning the old one to Vista? And do I have to uninstall Windows 7 Ultimate with the Upgrade disk so it knows it's no longer on that computer. In other words are they linked by some type of serial number on my HP laptop that only allows me to install the Windows Upgrade disk on that specific machine?

Need To Install XP To Be Able To Have A Clean And Tidy Computer?

Apr 15, 2011

I've got dozens of folders on my PC that i cant delete because apparently i need admin privileges (even tho i am admin). Even if i switch user to the dedicated hidden admin account it still tells me i dont have the rights to delete stuff from MY OWN COMPUTER. It's utterly ridiculous.Cant beleive i actually bought this joke of an OS. I feel completely vindicated for pirating previous versions of windows and certainly wont be wasting money on future versions if this is the path they are going down.Do i really need to install XP to be able to have a clean and tidy computer?I can make a new folder and instantly i dont have the rights to delete it, surely that cant be normal?I really dont want to have to go back to XP but unless anyone knows a way to remove this stupid and completely unnecessary behaviour it seems like the only choice i have. All i want is to have 1 account, my account, from which i can do anything i like, and yes, i do understand the risks involved in that.or if not, and i do have to waste time switching to an admin account every time i want to delete/uninstall something, i at least want it to work from there which it currently does not.I have the UAC set to the bottom but still it tries to babysit my every move.

Can't Rename Computer During Clean Install - Some Characters Invalid

When it asks me to name the computer I get "some characters are not valid" no matter what I enter. No possible way I'm entering invalid characters, I'm only using the alphabet!

Can't Advance Past "Type A Computer Name" On Clean Install?

Sep 13, 2010

This is a great forum you have here! OK I am having a very low-tech month I think. I am trying to trouble shoot a problem with my system which had been running reasonably well until now -- I say reasonably well because lately I seem to have hit some hardware challenges. More on that later, however (if required). In order to trouble shoot my issues, I find myself needing to reinstall Windows 7 (My boot disk which is an SSD seems to cause the system to hang when it is connected so I am trying to install a new verion of Win 7 to troubleshoot the other from). Now I have ample space on a couple of drives so that is where I targeted. Everything runs fine in the installation process, the system reboots and I am presented the screen to enter a system name. I enter a name but the "next" button is protected and not clickable . Does this mean anything to anyone?

BSOD Random Times / Fresh Windows 7 Install

Oct 23, 2012

I keep getting BlueScreen errors and the pc is restarting after I switched motherboards from a gigabyte p55-usb3 to a biostar t5xe cfx-sli. I kept all the same components except I added another gtx 470. Thermal paste was freshly applied all around, all the idle and load temps seem normal. 30c/50c cpu and 40c/85c gpu.

1. Installed Win 7 Prof 64 bit on freshly formatted hard drive
2. Installed Drivers from motherboard cd (Biostar T5XE CFX-SLI)
3. Ran Windows update for awhile, restarted a few times, installed other programs
4. While browsing the net the pc shutdown and gave me a prompt upon startup with a "problem event name: bluescreen"

It also gave me the locations of a dump and a system file which I have included in the Shutdown #1 file.

1. After reviewing the error and searching the web I had read that it could be a possible heat issue, which didn't make sense as the first time I was just browsing the web. Idle the CPU is 30c and the GPU (SLI) is 40c for each card.
2. I downloaded the Unigine Heaven benchmark and ran it
3. PC shutdown in the middle of the benchmark and gave me different results in the post shutdown message. Files are in the Shutdown #2 file.

I used arctic silver on the cpu and on the gpu's. Everything is connected tightly and the only other thing installed is a wireless pci card which should have no problem. I used to use the exact same components on a gigabyte board (p55-usb3). The only reason I installed the Biostar Motherboard was to install another GTX 470 and run SLI.Everything seems normal as far as temps, the pc isn't slow, etc.I just decided to turn it off to avoid any possible damage and take the files I grabbed and post on a forum. This seemed like a good place to continue.

IDT Audio Drivers Won't Install - Windows 7x64, Clean Install?

Jan 30, 2012

I'm working on a re-install of all components following a complete corruption of the boot sector on my drive which could not be fixed with repairs. The last time I installed everything fresh, I had no issues. Between then and now, there have been no hardware changes on my system, but now I am having issues installing the IDT Codecs. I keep getting an error along the following lines: Quote: ExitError: Error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again. Running under compatibility mode, and running drivers from both the motherboard CD and the manufacturer website both have the same effect. The CD, when booted, says "This OS not support!" and only contains 32-bit vista codecs. ECS' website download indicates the IDT drivers as being compatible with Windows 7. Both do not work. It is almost as if the hardware "disappeared," despite the fact that I was using the drivers quite successfully till just 2 days ago, when the boot sector went kaput.

Windows has installed its own default set, which do nothing to power the 8mm jacks which I use with my speakers, but instead put sound through the HDMI, which is useless because I use a dedicated graphics card. I have tried uninstalling this codec and re-installing IDT, to no effect. Windows replaces with its own default codec.I have referenced this thread here, but offered solutions do not seem to work for me: Intel IDT Audio Driver will not install

Unable To Install Windows 7 - Clean Install

Jan 31, 2010

I'm an IT student who got a free Win 7 x64 disk from my school, and I am unable to do a clean install. My system specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.12 Ghz
nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX 512 MB PCI-e
320 GB Western Digital HD SATA
1 Gb DDR2 1066 MHz and 2x2Gb DDR2 1066 MHz SDRAM

I set my boot sequence to boot from DVD-ROM drive first, and HD second. It goes to the "Windows is loading files" screen and gets hung up. I started the process and went to watch TV for an hour, and it is still on the "Windows is loading files" screen. I haven't gotten any error messages. I've unplugged all USB devices from my computer as I have seen on this forum that it has worked for some people.

edited to add: I originally had only 2 Gb of RAM, and it got hung up at the "Windows is loading files" screen. I thought it was getting hung up because I didn't have enough RAM, so I bought brand new 2 sticks of 2 Gb RAM. I took out one of the 1 Gb sticks and placed both of the 2 Gb of RAM...for a total of 5 Gigs. And, it is still doing the same thing.

Normally i run ping [URL] -t well my results constantly run over 100ms ping times while all of the rest of the computers on my network run around 40ms ping time. -Reinstall network card drivers (had no effect)

-Scan my computer with msert, Security essentials, spybot S&D (no results)

-Plugging a different computer into the same network cable (other computer worked fine)

Start And Shutdown Computer Automatically Several Times Per Day?

Jan 17, 2013

What I need to do is turn on a Windows 7 computer every hour for about five minutes and then turn it off again automatically; while the computer is on I have to run a macro. The cycle described before has to be repeated 24 hours, so, the computer is automatically turned on, it automatically runs the macro and when the macro ends, it goes off again 24 times per day. When I say turn off I mean, either turn off the computer or send it to a low energy consumption state like hibernation or sleep Basically I know how to automatically turn off the computer and turn it on once per day using the BIOS setup, but I dont know how to do this several times in a day automatically and then call the macro every time

Clean Install Of XP Over Windows 7?

I have my XP disc and i'm ready to do a clean install, but i'm struggling to get it going... what do I do!? Inserting the XP disc brings up the autopay but the option to install is greyed out, which I understand as it's a step down. However, when I press f12 on booting to try to boot my pc from disc it just locks on the boot menu. What can I do to get a clean install of XP going?

Clean Install Of Windows 7 Pro Going As Bad As Possible

Feb 26, 2010

I didn't notice until I tried 2 burns. Then I resorted to downloading elsewhere and after 3 more downloads I got the right file(verified by hash) for 64 bit Windows Pro English. Burned the iso to my thumb drive fine, seemed to install fine and fast on this system: [code] Have 2 500GB spinpoint F3s in raid 0 and 1(setup in bios correctly and in raid menu bios fine)190GB raid 0, 375GB raid 1 using Intel raid after mostly done with install it said it had to restart so it did, but since I used a USB thumb drive it tried booting from that again instead of finishing install. I redid the install after fixing partitions and it seemed to go fine this time I removed the drive when it restarted. I was actually finally in windows 7!After installing a couple drivers I needed I restarted then things went bad.Could no longer enter windows normally because once it loaded the screen went blank. It automatically installed gfx drivers but the monitor drivers aren't installed and I was incapable of installing them after 1-2 hours trying to figure out a way. Monitor didn't show up in device manager.Monitor is an Acer2051w.I could get into safemode and try to mess with stuff.I was able to uninstall video drivers then boot into windows normally but it would automatically install the same driver and I wouldn't be able to get back in again. Automatic driver installation was off by the way.

So I couldn't fix this so I decided to reinstall Windows 7. The install went through fine, said it had to restart to finish up and after restarting the screen would stay blank forever. Doesn't seem to be installing properly now.So I can't get it installed again, and when it was it wasn't working properly. I have the monitor drivers even but no way of installing them so Windows is screwing up setting a bad resolution/ settings for the display that I can't fix hence the blank screen issue.

Clean Install Of Windows 7

Apr 11, 2011

I have a retail Upgrade DVD for Windows 7 Home Premium which I purchased. I did a clean install by wiping my hard drive using the format partition option on the Windows 7 DVD. I had Vista installed on the HDD before the upgrade so the installation program could "SEE" that I had a qualifying version of Windows to validate the upgrade key.Activation was successful. Now, I want to start a clean slate. However, I don't have Vista installed anymore, just Windows 7.Can I reinstall with an upgrade key on a blank, reformatted hard drive? Will activation pass?Or do I need to reformat with the installation program on the DVD?Finally, I made an image of my Vista operating system before I upgraded, do I need to restore the image so my Win 7 DVD can once again "SEE" the qualifying Windows version? There are forums out there that say different things, yes you can, no you can't, well it depends.
