Temp Internet Cache / Pictures Only Save As .bmp - "untitled"
Jan 17, 2011
I save a lot of pictures onto my HD. I had this problem with XP as well, but am having it again with Windows 7 Pro 64. After a little while, IE will only allow me to save the files as .bmp and they lose the filename--which is replaced as "untitled".
I know this has to do with the temporary internet cache size. What do you guys keep your cache size at (the default is 50mb)?
The recommended fix is just to delete temporary internet files, but when I do this, I lose cookies and stuff and have to re-enter forum passwords.
Even if I go into IE tools and delete history---if I deselect cookies and keep the box checked for "keep cookies on favorite websites" I sometimes have to reenter passwords and usernames into forums. Also--even though I have temporary internet files deleted...they do not delete when I close IE....does this feature only pertain to the actual browsing history?
XP was to deselect the "do not save encrypted pages to disk" box. Is this safe? How can I fix this problem so I can save picture files as their original file type like .gif .jpg or whatever?

the only right click option which appears is "copy" but you cannot then "paste"mthat into your Windows Exploer folders. The only work around I have found is to send the Email to my Hotmail account and then save the "attachments" (.jpg) which arrive with it for the graphics. Is there a setting/option that can be adjusted so that incoming email graphics can be saved directly( addition to right click option) to a graphics folder or even a Microsoft program like Paint, Image viewer or similar? why do I see internet explorer cache when I don't use it as a browser? I use firefox, but every time I do a c.c., a pretty big cache of temp internet files comes up for internet explorer. Is this the result of windows updates? or is something nefarious going on?

There appears to be an abundance of "Temporary Internet Files" stored in my system. My scanner (Avast) gets jammed up sorting through this junk and it takes forever to complete a scan. It can take hours just to do a Quick Scan. I realize I can set the scanner to avoid going through these files but what I really want to do is get all of it out of my system. I used to be able to empty all of that stuff out manually when I had Windows XP. How do I dump this stuff (empty the cache?) with Windows 7?
Dell Inspiron 570, 750GB HDD, 8GB RAM, 2.8GHz processor.

I'm running Windows 7 and IE 9. In the default temp folder (tools>internet options>General Tab, Browsing History, settings>view files), I can see a number of cached fies, but not all the jpgs. On my XP machine with IE 8, after I visit the same website as on my Windows 7 machine and follow the same steps as explained above, I can see all the jpgs. The Internet Option settings are the same on both machines. Why can't I see all the same files on the Windows 7 machine?

I have my tower pc on constant all day- to record a streaming IP Camera from my work.Initially, I saved these files into my docutments- which they would save as .avi files, and after every several days I would delete them as they would take up ALOT of space on my pc.My pc is 250GB in size, and usually it would be about 80GB full before I had the IP Camera. Just recently, I noticed all of the IP Camera avi files seemed to have disappeared from my documents if I went directly to the folder... I could still see them in documents when I was choosing a location to save the recordings.Upon right-clicking the avi files in the latter, the files would be of no size and wouldn't play. Now my computer is 210GB full in the matter of a week.

I searched on internet to find a free software that can save the internet consumption of each computer on my network and I didn't find anything.
Is there a software that can achieve this? I am not looking for a bandwidth monitor that show your consumption in KB/s. I want something that show your consumption per day. Like 2GB first day, 1GB second day, etc...

I cant download anything, it just disappears, no matter what browser im using.Ive checked and reset all the security settings. Control panel - reset, custom, set to low medium, enable downloads. Nothing works. When in chrome, it downloads and then i clicked it to open and it just says windows cannot find the file, and in the download tab it shows it as removed. It downloads, then disappears all the time.In IE, it says when security settings dont allow the file to be downloaded and it wont even attempt to download. And in mozilla the thing comes up that says open and save as, so i click save and the little download box appears in the corner and before it can even start, it says cancelled. So i click retry, it downloads, then i go to open and its NO Where to be found. No browser downloads, so its not my IE/mozilla/Chrome settings, theres something else going on, its driving me insane. It happened after i downloaded some torrents, then upon the next restart i think it just stopped working. Avast and Malwarebytes find nothing!

I've had this problem for years, since first upgrading to Internet Explorer 9 and Windows 7.
After 2-3 weeks, Internet Explorer starts randomly choosing to disclude sites from its history, before reaching a point where it simply stops recording history. Yes, I HAVE all the settings properly adjusted so that it does not delete history upon exit, has an entire gigabyte of disk space reserved just for history, 400 days set to keep history, and it still ends up being a bi-monthly thing of me having to delete the history.
I've gone through countless sites and forums looking for answers, History function not working in Internet Explorer 8 - Microsoft Answers Why has history not been working in IE 9 for the last few days? - Microsoft Answers IE 9 is not saving my browsing history. - Microsoft Answers
NOTHING works for me, not deleting index.dat and such.

I recently upgraded from XP to Win7. Now, when I have a file download or attachment, either in Outlook or any browser, it takes me to the File Save window. Before I could simply click on the attachment and it would open (unless it couldn't figure out what kind of file it was). This is a real pain when viewing pictures attached to an email. I've looked everywhere and can't find this issue addressed in any documentation. I've had Win 7 in the past and this didn't happen.

I imported my photos from my SDCard to my PC using Picasa 3, and everything was going smoothly... until I tried to take a look at the photos! all of the photos that I've imported using this method for some reason all became greyed out! Viewing them on Picasa3, all you can see is a grey rectangle, in place of the photos. However, when using the windows explorer folder, i can see that the photos were imported correctly (it's not just a grey box, but the actual photos), but when I try to open it (using any program: Paint, Picasa3, etc), it is still a grey rectangle instead of the photos. I tried to upload the image and send it via email, and I get the same result. In my mistake, I chose to "delete the uploaded photos after uploading" option..it's my vacation photos from Croatia I'm not sure if there were any errors when I imported it... i stepped out for a bit while I was waiting for it to import. I looked around my SD card, and looked at the "Lost.dir" folder, and copied all of what's in there.I did use Glarysoft to recover the images, and I'm using a Windows 7 laptop as my computer. Also, are there other alternatives? I did save the lost.dir with all of the photo files in it, both in my SD Card, and on my laptop.

my computer is old and has small hard drive space, and someone recommended I delete my %temp%, my temp, and my prefetch folder, but I was just wondering, since I had to do a whole lot of searching ,and downloading of drivers, (just to make my computer compatible with windows 7), where all my downloaded drivers are? And if deleting any of these folders will screw up my drivers, and give me problems, and I would have to find the drivers again.
(Also I don't really know what the drivers are called, so I can't really search for them) Because I really wanna delete these folders to make my computer faster, because on XP, where my drivers always worked and I never needed to update them, I deleted those folders all the time, and it made it faster because those folders had a crapload of stuff in them, but I don't want my computer to not be compatible with the games/videos/music/etc. I use it for.

I changed via the dialog the TEXT SIZE via the screen resolution in the control panel to CUSTOM SIZE.With one of the newer "Cinema" or Very Wide screen (1680 X 900) displays after I'd increased the text size to over 160 % I didn't get the possibility to SAVE any documents any more via the SAVE AS button. The SAVE dialog would appear but the SAVE button was missing. The effect was noticed in Office 2007 (all programs) Notepad etc etc.Seems to be a Windows fault as this should not be allowed to happen.on more traditional "Squarer" type monitors -- no problem.

Is there any way to set the default save location folder for downloads in IE8 to the last folder that the same file type was saved in? It makes no sense to default to a single folder and have to browse through to the desired folder for every single download, so I assume there has to be an option somewhere.

I'm doing some audio work, editing drums, which involves taking a few audio files (7 or 8) and splitting them into hundreds, one for each drum beat.
My problem is that when I do this, my computer completely locks up. I've noticed that as soon as I do this, Windows 7's RAM Cache jumps up to 1.7gb. And I've only got 2gb of RAM, so it leaves only 300mb for my audio program to run, and I think this is the problem.
Is there a way to temporarily or permanently disable Windows 7's ability to cache your RAM? Because it doesn't seem to be disabling when I want it to.
I'm running the Windows 7 RC Build 7100 atm, with an Intel Core2Duo (2ghz) and 2GB of ram.

I can't find this as I dunno how to explain it for googling. unless I get irrelevant answers! When I clear my browser (IE9) cache, cookies etc, whether via ccleaner or the delete browsing history general tab, I get an annoying voice telling me "how to clear cache, then cookies etc" whenever I open a new window or most new tabs for a sometime afterwards, eventually it stops occuring, obviously fed up with me hitting the mute button, I've checked the audio settings in the ease of access center in control panel, all off & ok, the voice is different anyway.

Not sure how best to describe the problem so if my wording is inaccurate I apologise.
I was sharing an ext usb drive on an XP machine, but have now moved it to my main win 7 machine.
However, when I go into network and look at the old XP machine it still shows the "Share" but obviously the drive is no longer there.
How do I remove these "rogue/ghost" entries?
