View 12 Replies View RelatedIt looks like the cache file is ok and if I delete it Windows will recreate it but I have the same issue. It's hard to see in the video but at first the icons are all there just as they should be, then Windows clears them all and (very slowly) refreshes them.

I've just spent the last couple of hours stripping down my rig,for a clean but mainly to do something about the cable management. But since rebuilding it 2 problems have arisen.problem 1 On start up I'm getting the message boot manager is missing .I go through the steps CTL>ALT>DEL then DEL to enter bios and select the drive to boot from in advanced mode F7 (only one drive is there on the initial bios screen where the drag and drop option is)Problem 2 once I've logged in it is only showing 2 of my 3 hard drives.I'm using a z77 mobo 60g ssd boot,256g ssd and a 1tb mechanical. When I go into Computer management the 2 of the 3 drives are visible there.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have begun experiencing random shutdown with my system. I recently re-built my first build adding an SSD, new motherboard, graphics card and memory. [code] I ran the SF Dx tool and included screen shots of CPU-Z tabs and CBS.log filtered for just the SR (system restore) points from the sfc /scannow. Included all files in the zipped Seven Forum folder attached.random shutdowns-periodically I will return to my computer and find a screen asking for a boot drive. hitting space will not work.i have to shut down using the power on button.Usually it boot into windows after the first time.Occasionally I have to power on and off a couple of times.screen bland for 10 to 20 seconds. Occasionally while switching between applications using Alt-Tab the screen will go blank for up to 20 seconds. It recovers on its own with a message saying my GPU shut down and was restarted. I have never actually seen a BSOD (am I in the wrong forum?) but would like to fix these problems. For a time I thought these were problems with my SSD and GPU but when I ran sfc and saw the number of files that weren't repaired I started having concerns.Oh and by the way I have run a variety of diagnostics on the SSD and GPU and nothing was revealed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedNo matter what compiler I elect to use (I have tried codeblocks, bloodshed dev C++, visual studio c++ express 2005, visual studio 2008 & 2010 and eclipe [java]) when i attempt to rebuild a project after executing it once, it will link and compile, but and error will appear stating that the compiler could not open the executable to re-write it. I have already attempted the following:
** I have no Antivirus running (windows has a warning stating it).
** I have no firewall running (windows also has a warning about it).
** I have checked process explorer and no Antivirus or firewall is running.
** I have checked process explorer and no other process is attempting to use that executable. (the program terminates from process explorer at the same time it stops running in command prompt)
** I have followed all necessary instruction to make sure cygwin was removed from my computer.
My program will compile & run without any errors (it does this to any code i try to compile, even hello world [so it isn't a coding error]. Its may be a compiler error because it happens with c++ and java [same problem from command line too) or its an ide problem as this happens with multiple ide.
I am going to take a guess and say I either a have a rogue av or firewall (Windows Defender) issue that I can not seem to track down and shut down or windows keeps accessing the project directory (process explorer did show a process name "system" was accessing that project directory). I am the admin for the computer, and the only account on it. I really don't want to dual boot linux just to develop programs.
my netgear wireless modem and wireless network were renamed and all the passwords reset. Hard reset to recover. I am still getting browsers redirected daily. All three browsers each will give message that setting have been changed when opened. IE will say search setting have been corrupted and mandate Bing. Internet Options will be reset to custom levels without a reboot. I have installed AVG 2012 paid. No scan from various scanners will show an infected file except some cookies. AVG rescue disk scan found 13 password protected files that were renamed. Broke AVG and required a reinstall. Password protected files were back by the end of the day. AVG says there should be NO password protected files in their sub-directories during a rescue scan. Their solution is a wipe and reinstall. What is the safest process of doing the HD wipe and reinstall? Just plugging the thumb drive in got me all this grief. Is reinstalling files from the DVD the same process? If i try to access my old files am i opening myself to reinfection?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Toshiba Dynabook that I bought in Japan. It originally had Vista on it, but recently I yanked the hard drive out and replaced it with a new one and installed windows 7 on it. I installed all the drivers it required using driver max and windows update, but it keeps freezing randomly. I ran the disk error check and no change and I tweaked my boot up to only run needed programs. I'm pretty sure it's not an overheating issue because it will run for hours when installing the os. I've already spent more time than I wanted to invest in this and am ready to smash the computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have win 7 running on RAID 1 using 2 Seagate 750GB hdds...My motherboard is an ASUS P5 series with an onboard Intel Raid chip.So apparently one of the drives went dead and since it's RAID 1 no problem right? Just replace the disk and it will auto rebuild... Problem is, this thing happened just as i was about to step out of my house for a week long vacation... I thought i'd get a new drive when i got back and shutdown the pc to save on power while i was away...Fast forward a week, so i boot up the computer and the Intel Raid boot sequence shows that i have a degraded drive... No biggie... I thought i'd boot it up first and replace the degraded drive later... What i didn't notice was that Intel Raid controller had designated another one of my existing drives as a spare and marked it for auto rebuild in Windows...So, upon booting into Windows, Intel Rapid Storage starts rebuilding on the wrong drive... So now i have 1.5TB HDD data that has been wrongly auto rebuilt... I've sinced replaced the degraded drive and the array is back to normal but my data drive is mush... I tried using Active Undelete and it's able to scan the files and recover but the files are corrupted...
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy desktop started having icon issues, so I did a little reading up and saw that it could help by deleting the iconcache.db file. I did so, and now my icons are completely gone. I can still see the text under the icons and can still access the programs, however they are running slower than normal. Also, on a related note, nothing happens when I click the start menu button.I am running Windows 7 Home Pro 64 bit. I have tried all the fixes to no avail, even launched in safe mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm doing some audio work, editing drums, which involves taking a few audio files (7 or 8) and splitting them into hundreds, one for each drum beat.
My problem is that when I do this, my computer completely locks up. I've noticed that as soon as I do this, Windows 7's RAM Cache jumps up to 1.7gb. And I've only got 2gb of RAM, so it leaves only 300mb for my audio program to run, and I think this is the problem.
Is there a way to temporarily or permanently disable Windows 7's ability to cache your RAM? Because it doesn't seem to be disabling when I want it to.
I'm running the Windows 7 RC Build 7100 atm, with an Intel Core2Duo (2ghz) and 2GB of ram.
I want, for the sake of my netbook's battery, hard disk defrag, etc.... to disable the Google Chrome cache as it is writing to the HDD and therefore using my netbook's battery.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't find this as I dunno how to explain it for googling. unless I get irrelevant answers! When I clear my browser (IE9) cache, cookies etc, whether via ccleaner or the delete browsing history general tab, I get an annoying voice telling me "how to clear cache, then cookies etc" whenever I open a new window or most new tabs for a sometime afterwards, eventually it stops occuring, obviously fed up with me hitting the mute button, I've checked the audio settings in the ease of access center in control panel, all off & ok, the voice is different anyway.

I was sharing an ext usb drive on an XP machine, but have now moved it to my main win 7 machine.
However, when I go into network and look at the old XP machine it still shows the "Share" but obviously the drive is no longer there.
How do I remove these "rogue/ghost" entries?
No answer was given there, nor in many other forums. Some "experts" even went on to claim it was not even possible. Well, ignore the "experts" and "gurus" that say otherwise, it is possible, and it's easy.FYI: Here is what I did:
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have here an HP Mini 210-1199DX belonging to a friend
Processor: Intel Atom CPU N455 @ 1.66GHz
1024 MB RAM
Running Windows 7 Startup
It's just a few months old and has barely been used in that time, but since it's not my laptop I don't know its history. Knowing the owner though, I don't imagine she ever did more than some browsing and text editing with it.My friend's laptop gets a blue screen when starting up, which says CACHE_MANAGER, STOP: 0x00000034 (0x00000107, 0xc0000420, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)It does this when the loading bar for Windows appears on screen, without fail. There is absolutely no way I can get windows to boot. Not in safe mode or with startup repair or anything else. After looking around a bit, I gathered that this BSOD pointed to insufficient memory, failing memory, failing hard drive, bad device drivers or something starting up in windows.I had a look at the BIOS (InsydeH2O version F.22), which offers barely any options except for a memory test and a hard drive test and both passed fine. Startup options also has an HP diagnostics menu which offers a memory and hard disk test and they passed. I don't know if this means anything good.. (the diagnostics menu also has what it calls a "run-in" and a start up test which does a mem test, a short DST and a more extensive DST. I'm not entirely sure what this or if it has anything to do with it but every time it finished the long one it would revert back to testing the short one and this would continue indefinitely in this cycle. I don't know if this is relevant at all though)I'm just not sure what to do next. If it is something in Windows, I can't get into Windows in any way so that doen't seem like an option. Since the HP Mini is completely closed, there is no way to easily open it up and replace/add memory should that be necessary. Is it any use trying a Windows 7 recovery disc (it'd have to be usb, no cd drive)? I don't have one at hand so I thought I'd ask before getting one.
I regularly have to go into Options/ Advanced/ Network/ Clear Cached Content to get pages to display properly. From time to time pages will display with just simple text...no images etc...like a failed webpage load. The solution through trial and error has been to clear the cached content.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've always cleaned the Thumbnail Cache using CCleaner but after doing some reading I'm a little unclear as to the benefit.
As I understand it if I clean the TC, each time I open a folder it will need to rebuild the thumbnails. I believe this slows things down. Is there a benefit to not cleaning or does the cache keep growing and using up more space?
I have followed the guides online for disabling the Thumbnail cache in Windows 7(Specifically, the .db files generated when pictures are loaded in Windows Explorer)I disabled it via the tutorial on this website, I have also disabled it in Group Policy Editor... I cleared the existing cache, rebooted, and when i load directories with pictures in them, the .db file(s) are still being generated.I do not wish to disable the display of thumbnails in Windows Explorer...I realize this is the easiest method of ensuring they are not generated in the .db. However there must be a way to prevent windows from doing so.
