View 4 RepliesSo far I am loving Widows 7, just call me "McLovin".
The only problem I am having with it so far is this Dang HL2.exe error.
Whenever I start to load up Team Fortress 2 I get that error.
I even tried the compatibility mode but that didn't work either.
It is really no biggie since I have Steam installed on my Desktop.
I recently built this machine, about a month ago. The video card and power supply were used from an older desktop, all other parts are new. I've attached a zip file with the output of the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app, and a System Health Report.
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin (PC3 12800)
GFX: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache SATA III
MBD: ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3
PSU: Antec 850W
I've been getting BSODs randomly while playing Arma 2 with the Dayz mod. At first I thought it must be something with the game but I've also gotten BSODs playing Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad but I've also played other games like Portal 2 without problems. Thinking it might be driver related I did a fresh install of windows but to no avail.Half the time the game will crash randomly anywhere from 10 minutes of play to 4 hours giving a 0x000005 exception code. The other half of the time my computer will hang and BSOD giving me a different bccode almost every time. The most recent is 10007e and the only other one I remember is d1 which is one of the few that I've gotten multiple times. The Windows Desktop Manager has also crashed twice but I'm not sure it that is related. It was custom built a year ago and was problem free until about a month ago when the BSODs start. They stopped for a while but started again about a week or two ago.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was recently infected with the Smart Fortress 2012 malware. I'm fairly confident I've successfully removed it (ran lots of tools, which found it a removed it, no symptoms currently). However, it seems to have done damage to Windows Firewall. I cannot start the firewall service. I have tried multiple fixes (5 or 6, many per instructions of Microsoft's website), including Microsoft's associated FixIt tool for this problem, to no avail. I still get the message "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer..." (see attached jpg for error). Also, I tried a System Restore (tried 4 restore points), the process failed each time.

the same Win 7 CD I used on my primary computer.I own a small home recording studio, where my console houses two computers with three monitors. My main computer is my Digital Audio Workstation(DAW) and as I am a professional Detailer, it also is my 3D graphics workstation. The other computer is for Midi, Internet, HTPC, and various other things, although both computers are networked through a router and can access the Internet. However, for security reasons, I don't use the DAW computer on the net except to download various upgrades/drivers etc.Because of ergonomics at the console, I would like to access both computers with only one keyboard/mouse. While doing research on Win7 Remote Desktop, I discovered that Win7 Home Premium will only allow this computer to be a Client, but not access a HOST, while Pro/Ultimate will allow a computer to be a host, but will not allow you to access a CLIENT, which is ODD, as if you pay premium price for Pro/Ultimate, it would seem you would want to use it to access a Client computer, not the other way around. Currently, my secondary computer runs XP, and since Home Premium will not allow my primary computer(client) via Remote Desktop to access my secondary computer because it isn't a HOST, I'm looking for an alternative.
I have been researching Team Viewer, as I need an App that will allow me to teach my daughter Sketchup, as she is an Interior Designer. However, she is 500 miles away, and uses a Mac Laptop. Hence my research, which tells me Team Viewer might be ideal. But it dawned on me that maybe Teamviewer might also solve my other desire. Can anyone provide some insight into the pro's/cons of TeamViewer vs Remote Desktop. I had considered purchasing Win7 Pro for my secondary computer just to access it from my primary computer, which would still run Home Premium, and it would be the client, which again, it seems Remote Viewer via Win7 Pro is backwards, but maybe I'm missing something here. Any info would be appreciated as I am semi retired and my income resources are limited. And then, I have a THIRD computer, running XP, that isn't on the net. I was wondering if I can use the same Win7 Home Premium CD to load Win7 on that computer too, since I don't access the net from it.
i want to share desktops in local network. is there any way or any application by which i can do this without using internet connection. i mean if there is only local network exist.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm running Teamspeak 3 and I use stereo mix to stream sound to my friends, the only problem is that whenever they talk Stereo mix plays their voice back and causes insane feedback. I would just mute everyone but that would mean I cant hear them myself. Is there any way to change it so that stereo mix wont pick up their voices let me still hear them?(I have 2 recording devices, Microphone and StereoMix. I have 2 playback devices, my HDMI to the TV and a Speaker output.) I use VIA High Definition Audio as my drivers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust an hour back, I stumbled upon this FreeSmith Free Video Player, that said it can play 200+ blu-ray movie disks. FreeSmith Video Player -- Free All-in-one media player Support Different Media Types Audio, Video, DVD, Blu-ray, all can be played smoothly with the smart FreeSmith video player. It supports almost all popular audio and video formats by default, including MKV, AVI, MP4, MPEG, FLV, WMV, HD and more. Besides, it offers you convenience to play DVD and blu-ray discs.
When the 8MB download completed, Windows 7 said that this type of file is not normally downloaded and can cause harm. But Softpedia had certified that it is free of any malware. ( I normally do not care for these warnings, smug in the fact that I can always restore my system in the event of any mishap and try all software but some people do take it seriously.)
OK, I played Night at the Museum 2 briefly and it did play the BD. ( My computer did not crash )So anyone wanting a free Blu-ray player can try this out.
But let me say, sooner or later you would like to changeover to the regular blu-ray software players which are a class apart. These freeware playerss can only be fillers.
i can't install pro Evolution on my e6500 dell laptop

View 7 Replies View Relatedhow can I play a video in jet audio (or any other media program) on one monitor while I play a fullscreen game on the other. I can get it to work with streams off of website like own3d.tv and twitch.tv, and I can even run the streams in full screen. However when I try to run a movie through jet audio or even just play music through zune player, they freeze up. The audio will still come through, but either the picture is frozen in place or the zune player seems to get frozen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI selected my Line 6 soundcard, and eversince, with or without (Realtek), Line 6 **** uninstalled, K-Lite codec, Windows 7 codec pack..... it doesnt matter, because eversince WMP refuses my .MP3's.Some files play wihtout sound, some give an error like 'theres a problem playing these files'.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is when there is no sub (str) within the same folder as the vid
But when i put in the str file in the same folder, this happened
I installed a Line 6 soundcard, now whether I have it selected or not (Realtek) it refuses .mp3 files; sometimes there's just no sound, some files give an error something like 'something went wrong playing this file'.Installed Windows 7 codeck pack and K-Lite, surprisingly without any effect.

The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
