Vista created a subdirectory named Buford, and stored data from certain programs (e.g., Garmin MapSource waypoints/track files) in that sub directory. I cannot find this subdirectory in W7.

I ordered the upgrade disks.I finally ran the upgrade to Windows 7 including performing the suggested backup of all my files on a separate hard drive. The instructions indicated that I would be saving my email and contacts that was a part of Windows Mail. Now that I am running Win 7, I don't have access to Windows Mail and I don't know where my email files might reside.What can I do now to gain access to my old emails and contracts?

Would like to know how to get these programs back. I had try to use the disc that came with the computer but it actually wipe out windows 7 and reinstall windows vista back onto the computer.

i already had xp32 and vista 64 business on a dual boot on the same HDD before installing windows 7.
during windows 7 install, I selected the xp32 partition, formatted it and installed windows 7 over the top as I no longer wanted xp32.
When the windows 7 install was complete I expected to see a dual boot screen with
option 1. windows 7
and option 2. vista64
unfortunatelty i have no dual boot options, the pc now just goes straight into windows 7. It doesnt sem to know that vista is there.

In just 7 months it has got viruses and is full of error messages, not able to uninstall the programs causing this mess, and my web browser keeps redirecting me to alternate websites which I never typed on the address bar. I am sick and think about completely deleting the whole C disk from the Windows 7 (backup my files first) and try to replace Windows 7 with some type of free Linux OS. My netbook has no CD drive nor floppy disk drive, only USB drives. My questions are:
1. Can I really get rid of all the Windows 7 files already pre-installed?
2. Can I install and run Linux OS efficiently in my netbook?
3. How can I install Linux OS on my netbook from a USB flash drive?
After the most recent windows update, my .doc files now appear as .pdf when I click on the file, Adobe cannot open the file, as a quick fix, I save the file to my desktop as a .docx then open Word and open the document that way. What has to be done to make my .doc files able to open without these extra measures?

Assuming that all of its English features in Windows 7 will be converted to Spanish, is there a way to make it so there is no slight hint of Spanish in my system? It would be kind of silly to learn Spanish just because Lenovo made a bug in their system.. sigh.
Also, does anyone know if the Windows 7 COA sticker will say "Spanish" on it? I'm just curious about this one.
I am converting my 2.66 GHz Core II Duo machine from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Ultimate. When I loaded XP, during the installation process, Windows asked me to load RAID software from a floppy disk to enable the RAID and SATA ports on my Intel DQ965GF motherboard. Will Windows 7 need the same software loaded, or will it be able to access the SATA ports and/or have the RAID software driver built into the operating system? I have the latest driver/software update from Intel for the motherboard, but have not installed anything yet.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to convert my old VHS tapes to DVD at minimal expense. I have the Roxio Video Capture USB and the driver seems to be working correctly for this Capture device. Even though I have the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD software, I was unable to install the software as it kept getting hung up because I believe the software is too old. Instead I decided to use a free Golden Video software as the software to capture the videos through the Roxio Video Capture USB. The Golden Video software appears to be working fine but it only captures the audio but no video.
I do not have the original VHS camcorder, but am instead running the VHS tapes through a VHS/TV and am thinking that may be the issue.The coaxial cable is running from the back of the TV to a Radio Shack RF Modulator which then has the three video/audio cables (red, white and yellow) running from the back of this Radio Shack box into the same cables on the Roxio Capture USB which is then plugged into the computer.
I feel that this setup should work, but perhaps one cannot capture the video from a VHS/TV but must use a camcorder or a VCR (neither of which I have). I have not seen this addressed on the internet and am wondering if anyone knows if this setup is possible.
I have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again.At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found.One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn't 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn't came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard.So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then.But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below: [code]

Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs.Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.

I have a dvd of genuine windows 64 bit professional and the problem is that instead of a cd/dvd drive I have an ultrabay hard drive which I want windows 7 to be on.
So the whole process would be getting all files from DVD, and "burning" them to external hard drive so I would be able to install Windows 7 on my 500gb hard drive.
Sometimes I get pictures that show up as a blank white page, folded in the upper right-hand corner. How do I convert it into a jpeg or a regular photo.I'm on Windows 7 home premium, 64 bits.

I did not remove the existing windows vista installation, and thus win 7 was installed in a dual boot combination. Now, i want to remove vista from my laptop and use windows 7 only.The problem is that during installation, win 7 was installed on logical drive and windows vista was on the primary drive. Thus, i cannot delete/format the windows vista partition. Also I cannot transfer the boot drive to the partition containing win 7 because the vista partition is the active one.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on it from microsofts site as well as various places throughout the web. most articles were also a few years old might have been before windows 7 was even released.from what I understand you will only really have an issue if you are using windows 98, 2000 , xp and server 2003.What I am trying to do is make a partition but the only way to do it so it seems (I am using the admin disk management tool)is to convert to dynamic.I am creating the partition to install a small linux distro to use in dual boot but the part that is making me weary is the last step of the disk management tool says "the operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disc(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s)(except the current boot volume.now I will (hopefully) never have to deal with those headaches called OS's again. So would I have any negative impact from this conversion? would i still be able to boot windows 7 with all of my data still intact?
