View 5 RepliesThere's this high pitch sound coming from my computer. You can hear it if you're within like 6 or 7 feet. I think it's coming from the cooling fan. The weird thing I noticed is that the sound goes away if my ethernet cable is not plugged in.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a really strange problem with my new desktop PC. Right when Win7 starts and the desktop appears, the PC case starts emitting a noise with a really high pitch. I tried almost everything to find out which component emits this noise (it's not the fans, nor the CPU, nor the video card, nor the hard drives). After hours no end of trying everything I could think of, I found out that the only way to stop the noise is to disable an item called "USB Input Device" from the Device Manager of Win7. I have several items called that way, but only one is causing the noise. When I do disable the device, the mouse stops working and the noise is gone entirely.
But as soon as I enable the device, or plug another USB mouse on the PC, the noise comes back. But here's the interesting thing: I found out that if I start Win7 in safe-mode, even with all services and network on, it doesn't emit the noise, and the mouse works perfectly anyeays. I even see that same device enabled in the Device Manager, but it doesn't make a sound. I cannot use Win7 in safe-mode all the time, but I also cannot use the PC without a mouse. I'm thinking on buying a PS2 mouse instead of a USB mouse and try that, but I really like both my wireless Logitechs.
So I wiped my cpu with cleaning alcohol, dried, wiped it with a very thin layer of thermal paste(silver one), then put everything back together, not the fan wont even spin, but it twitches, and when power runs through pc, I hear a very high pitch noise.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a new user for cubase 5. When I play back what I have recorded it seems that I hear the track in about 1/2 - 1 second delay than where the cursor is pointing. Also, if I record with metronome clicks I hear the high pitch click (which is supposed to be the first on out of each 4 beats) on the second beat.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi've done a fair amount of reading and searching on cpu usage in windows 7 (both beta & rc 1) and haven't had any luck with this issue yet.
the issue i'm having is my cpu usage spikes up to 80-100% very often and performance of any other task during this period is frustratingly laggy. these spikes happen from even the simplest action ranging from opening the start menu, to scrolling through text on a webpage and worst of all playing video (Internet is my benchmark tool, 80% usage guaranteed during video play).
using any web browser with 3+ tabs open is guaranteed to spike cpu usage over 50%. multitasking in general begets a sluggish os performance.
some of the solutions i've read and tried:
installing nvidia's windows 7 video drivers, no improvement.
disabling the hd audio in device manager seems to help a lot of people, i don't have this in my device manager.
sound drivers/devices also seem to be a leading source of cpu over-usage in a lot of cases. i've tried disabling/removing my sound card, drivers, and audio services to no avail. i initially had a sound card and on-board sound (ac97) running and disabling one of the two had a minor improvement in performance but nothing spectacular.
even with both disabled the cpu usage still spikes to 90-100% during video play, not to mention the video stutters and stops often.
i also had on-board lan in addition to a wireless card installed so i've switched between the two, disabling one or the other with no marked improvement.
setting the page file to manual control with a 4+ gb size setting, no difference.
disabling aero, using a windows 7 classic theme, no dice.
i like to think that my hardware is strong enough to handle video streaming/playing without maxing out the cpu but if you think i'm mistaken then feel free to let me know. my windows 7 performance score was somewhere around 3.4. i've also watched the process explorer extensively and i can't find any service that sticks out terribly.
any ideas? any diagnostic tools you guys would recommend?
Recently the hiccups that happen when playing hich bitrate audio (happens in 320 kbps and not in 192) and videos (HD) started to really annoy me so I came here.I have windows 7, intel i7 870 processor, roland UA-4FX USB sound card, radeon hd5800 graphics card, and 4gb ram, I think all of them have up to date drivers. The clicking intensifies when doing rather CPU-heavy things like opening microsoft word but it is always there in high bitrate files, but the CPU load never goes above 20% in task manager. The hiccups are such that audio playback stops for a very short time periodically and making a click sound as if you removed the cable of the speaker.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from vista to Windows 7 and I have noticed that whenever I want to visit a website (this one included) i often have to click the link twice for my browser (firefox) to change pages. The first click sends the request and eventually times out. While the progress bar stalls out at about 50% if I hit the link again it goes right to the page. If I go to speakeasy.net and test my connection, 1 attempt will correctly display my 20mb connection, the next attempt shows 2mb, while further attempts either show any speeds in between or it will just time-out eventually.
My upload speed is always correctly displayed at about 2mb. All other computers on my network have no trouble. I have my network card set for 100mbFD (changed with no effect from auto negotiate. When I try and download files from the Internet (drivers, documents from attachments etc...) my transfer speed slowly and steadily degrades from 1mb/sec to idle. If a file does actually come close to fully downloading, the file ends up corrupted due to data loss, or it cancels completely due to lost connection to server.
My motherboard is asus M2N-SLI Deluxe with current nvidia nforce driver 73.1.4.0. Using the device manager, Windows 7 shows my driver to be up-to-date (which is false because it said the driver it found for the card was current, but it isn't) and nvidia's driver manager also shows my driver to be up-to-date.
Even internal network transfers suffer. Files from my file-server also start out fast and continue to deteriorate to idle.
I'm a pretty novice network person, but I've looked at my router/firewall, device manager, Windows 7 network settings and nothing seems abnormal or unusual.
Like I said, every other computer on my network has 'normal' connectivity and it is just this comp. Any ideas?

This didn't help anything at all I disabled a certain windows update that was said to cause this problem, security update KB974571. rebooted my computer, still no sound.I tried a system restore but my windows 7 is very recent and there's only 2 restore points and neither of them work.I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers, no sound. View 5 Replies View RelatedThis appears to be working but there is no sound. I get the message "failed to play test tone" when I click test in playback devices. Windows update automatically downloads updates for this and then tells me that it is working when it isn't. I have even tried to use generic drivers (like realteks) to see if that would work. I've tried compatibility mode with no luck as well.

I have tried many things, some of which where disabling all sound effects under enhancements, reinstalling all the drivers, and restarting the Windows Audio.
View 10 Replies View RelatedStarting about a month ago, after six to seven months of my laptop working fine, I've been getting video and audio stuttering whenever gaming or watching most HD videos and after messing around with my drivers I realized that whenever my Realtek HD Audio drivers are disabled my video runs flawlessly, but when enabled both video and audio stutter. I'm using a Sony VAIO laptop so I'm assuming that the sound card isn't easily replaceable. I've tried using the newest drivers straight from Realtek's website and also the outdated driver provided by Sony's website, both of which result in the same stuttering. Sony has also replaced the motherboard once and it did not resolve the issue.I'm currently running Windows 7 with 6gb of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 330M graphics card.

My screen resolution is 1280x800.I use the 1920x1080 video and leave all the settings except for aspect ratio which I set to 16:9 and the resolution to encode the video at 1280x800.When I set it as my desktop background, the video is still 1920x1080 and if you compare the original to the desktop background, the video is "protruding" from the screen, so I can't see some areas.I've tried setting windows background to center, tile and all options but still nothing.
