Ever since buying a laptop for myself (May '11) I have been having an issue with playing any online source game. I have a Samsung QX410-S02 which is perfectly capable of running more intense games than CS: S, TF2, or L4D1/2. I have played COD4, BLOPS, BF: BC2, SWTOR, EQ2, D3, Guild Wars 2, etc running fine. The issue is that every 30 seconds to a minute, I will skip 3-4 times in a few seconds, making it impossible to do well in Valve's online shooters.I have tried running the game just the intel graphics card, and just the Nvidia (through Optimus controls) and no change. Running hl2.exe in admin, Windows XP SP2/3 also has no effect. I even tried dual booting with Windows 8, same issue. Unfortunately cannot try XP on this machine as I have issues finding drivers for my HDD.

I've just started playing a game (the Witcher Enhanced Edition) and the performance is terrible. I might get 3 or 4 secs of action then it stops completely for about a second. In short it is unplayable. I've noticed the same on other games (games are probably the only time I really test my system,) If I had a low powered system this would be understandable but I do not. Indeed the same games run acceptably on my old XL laptop and my mother's low spec Windows 7 system.

All the drivers are bang up to date as is W7. Because of the problems I've created a dedicated games boot. Aero is switched off, No Anti-Virus SW. No unnecessary programs. This was a new build of W7-64. This improves things only a little - it is still unplayable. Since the problem was noted I've ungraded my Graphics, to no effect. I'm not being over fussy - it really makes gameplay impossible.
i decided to just make an account here when regarding anything computer related in general. So my first thread i´m going to ask you geniuses what i might be able to do about this error i recently started getting when trying to install games.
First time it occurred was when i was trying to install borderlands 2. I manage to install the games, but this error keeps popping up along the way, and the game simply doesnt stop loading when a loading screen comes up.
I have been running my machine without any problems for a couple of months, then it started to slow down - or more specifically I would initiate the move of a 10G file from one external (esatabox) to another (same box). Transfer will start at 60M/sec and run for a short time, then all disk IO will stop. Status bar is still 'pulsing' but not moving. After 10-20 minutes it will resume the move but now the transfer rate is 2M/s.
Pull up taskmgr and look at performance shows zero disk IO (it doesn't even show any disks).
Checked RAM
Created a backup image of the OS using the Windows 7 backup, created a recovery disk, booted to recovery disk and restored the image (I didn't change any of my disk settings i.e. raid to ide). Seemed to restore ok, but problem persists. Anyone have any clue??? Or could anyone point me to something in Windows 7 that may help diagnose this problem?
I've had these problems for a few months so I just started using our shared family computer, and recently I haven't been able to get access to it that often. Because I had so many problems with my computer, I tried clean installing it, which helped for around a month. Now it is back to BSODS. The error code I mainly get is the 0x00000A.

The OS came in-built with the computer, but since then I've re-installed it around 5 times.
Outlook Express had a tab to go from "normal" to "view source" of an email which I am composing. That tab is gone in Windows Live Mail. Is there any way to get into the source?
Even though Windows Update may fail to find them many newer drivers for Windows 7 are available for manual download at the Microsoft Update Catalog website if you manually search for them. You'll need to use IE to use the site. I found WDDM 1.1 drivers for my Intel G33 graphics that were newer than what I could find anywhere else. Go to Microsoft Update Catalog to search.
I have tried to backup using the windows 7 backup program. I am choosing a remote western digital bookshelf hard drive. It has 150 gigabyte of space with nothing on it. I have had no success and keep getting a message that my backup source does not have enough memory. Any ideas?
How do I find out whats causing my BSOD? I get one every couple days and i'm sure its either a virus or HDD is failing....How do I find out whats causing it?

For the last half year, I've become very desperate. My computer was working jst fine and then it started giving black screens after the startup. That moment just before you see your (custom) background. I've checked my registryfiles. I've fixed some errors but I couldn't find anything about this error[CODE]
Whenever I'm playing Counter Strike Source, I am able to join a server just fine. HOWEVER, when that server changes maps or I choose to change servers, the game freezes. Specifically, it gets to the part of the loading screen that says "Sending Client Info" and freezes with no error messages. It then does not allow me to close the hl2.exe process by any means and I need to force shut down my computer. The game ran perfectly fine up until about a month ago when this began.

I have a new HP 6200 small form factor that came pre-installed with Windows 7 64bit. I installed our corporate copy of MS Office Pro 2003 and then installed UPS Worldship 2011, which requires an ODBC to connect to our Access database. When I go into the ODBC to set up the connection under System DSN, it's completely blank. No Access DSN, no Excel DSN, completely blank. If I try to ADD a DSN the only options shown are SQL DSNs which I can not use.Initially, I called UPS Worldship Support. They referred me to Microsoft. After nearly 2 hrs on the phone with MS, they told me to call HP since HP preinstalled the Windows 7 and they handle anysoftware/warranty issues. So, I called HP. Their support is the pits. Nobody I talked with even knew what a DSN is (they kept telling me it was DNS not DSN and they are 2 different things!!).
i get this problem in few of my files in hard disk, which is Disk D, first one is Disk C, any1 have cure for this, at first i only have this error in 1 file, now in 3 files, but these files are working perfectly, just cant copy paste.
I wondering if anyone can help answer a problem I am experiencing with using Windows 7 own backup tool.
I have two 500GB hard drives in my system. Drive 0 is partitioned with 390 GB as the C: drive containing Windows 7 and user data, the remaining space is unallocated ready for me to install Ubuntu 9.10. Drive 1, as D:, is the full 465.8GB and is planned to store backups. Before my initial backup this drive was empty.
In the past I've used Acronis to backup, but my version is old and before purchasing the latest version I thought I would try Windows own backup as I have got the impression that it's pretty good.
However, backing up my C: to D: takes up more space than I expected it too.
C:
Size: 390GB
Used: 185GB
Free: 205GB
D: after initial backup (drive empty before then)
Size: 465.76GB
Used: 320.01GB
Free: 145.75GB
Is there something I doing wrong? or is there a reason why it is nearly twice the size? I chose the recommend option and let Windows decide what to backup, was that the wrong decision?
If it helps these are the three files/folders I see at the root of D:
MediaID.bin, WindowsImageBackup and LIANLI-QUAD (my computer name)
My laptop is running on windows 7 64 bit and it has microsoft office 2010 starter pack built in. One day my co-worker gave me a CD to install a full version of microsoft office 2010. I thought 'why not?' but after the installation, it asked for product key which I do not have so I uninstalled it (not knowing it will affect my pre-installed microsoft office 2010 starter pack).
Days after I uninstalled the microsoft office (full version), I went to click on microsoft word (starter pack), and it needs a product key (it was pre-installed so there's no way for me to know the product key) and in the end I decided to uninstall it so I can install other working version of microsoft office. It probably leaves trail of registry maybe on the inside and also it has drive Q which I can do nothing about. So, I used "YourUninstaller" to completely remove anything related to 'microsoft office' and it did remove everything but when I tried to re-install different version (or even the same version) of microsoft office, it WON'T let me do it. I kept on getting errors, fed-up with the errors - I did a further reading on the net and found that I have to change the registry file in order to install microsoft office back to my laptop.
I turned the windows installer point to '0' in the regedit thingy (as this is what I read from the net). The default point is 1. After changing the windows installer point to 0, it really did let me install the microsoft office back into my laptop and I thought the problem was over but I noticed my windows now boot-up very slowly, it isn't normal...... and then I changed the point back to 1.
Everything works out fine until I noticed another problem. Every windows start up, I noticed that my razer synapse 2.0 driver now keeps updating. It's like every freaking restart or start up of windows, the razer synapse will update itself so I thought I'd just reinstall it and see what happens. It won't let me uninstall it with the Error 1612: The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.
I'm trying to download a powerpoint but everytime i try it says this ppt.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.I don't understand why? I've tried different browsers and even different computers but this still happens, yet my friends can download it without any hassle and when they try sending me it the same thing comes up, Does it have something to do with my internet provide (Virgin) It's really annoying as i need to download powerpoint for my college work.
I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 last weekend and I must say its been a really bad decision, Win7 is not so much of an improvement to me. We always think the grass is greener. The other idiot thing I did or didn't do was not back up so I could roll back to Vista so I am stuck with this now and I really hate it.
My issue (1 of many) is I can't delete a folder, I am guessing its some residual from Vista its 'My Documents' but inside it is an endless list of empty folders 'My Documents/My Music/My Documents/My Music/My Documents/My Music/My Documents/My Music...etc.
When I try to delete I get this message... "The source file names are larger than is supported by the file system. Try moving to a location which has a shorter path name, or try renaming to shorter names before attempting this operation" I have tried everything, I have tried renaming every file in the folder, they just keep coming back, no matter how many i delete. I have tried using software such as Unlocker or devices to delete on boot, I have moved the folders location, even tried mapping a drive and deleting with command prompt - nothing.
I am at a loss, I have been trying to delete this thing since last sunday night after the upgrade, i must have spent hours doing this. Done everything suggested here: Cannot delete file or folder | Windows Problem Solver
I today I decided to play some CSS with my friend, I haven't played it in a while and now whenever I try and play, it shortly just glitches and looks like this
Let's say " 01 - come.aaa" (A space at the beginning) is the file name.I am trying to change it to "01 - come.aaa"(without the space at the beginning).I am coming up with this error: "Source and destination file names are the same".1) Is this fixable? How?2) How can I find all files on my computer (and external drives) with a space at the beginning in the filename (and of course how can I change them with this error coming up)?3) Is it a problem to have a space at the beginning in the filename (These files will be used in Mac and Linux too) ?
I've read the excellent tutorial on getting Windows Vista Calendar into Windows 7. Only problem is that despite having eight original copies of Windows Vista, none of them at 64-bit, as is my Windows 7 install. As a Vista owner, is there a legal way to get a free copy of Vista 64-bit? Failing that, is there a safe way to get the required files?Further to the above, I notice that there is a Microsoft update that includes WinCal.exe [clicky] is there any way to extract the required files from the .MSU?
I am currently facing this problem with both Firefox and IE --> "rar.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read"it doesn't matter which type of files (.avi or .mkv and so on) I tried to download, but this problem keep on showing up.It happens only to my this recently bought computer and I tried it with my old computer, downloading using the same link but everything is ok......
I managed to get audio being played through both Speakers and Headphones, but i need to be able to play a video on gomplayer and listen to it's audio only through the headphones but at the same time play wmp music only on the speakers.
my computer automatically turn on when i connect it to the power source....And after few seconds it restarts its self...this cycle repeats its self over and over again until i dont disconnect the power source.
so I switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 last week and I've been getting random frame rate drops..I got pretty good frame rates in Windows XP and didn't get any choke at all..in Windows 7 my frame rates are around 50-60 (which is fine) but they randomly and frequently drop to like 10-15 fps for 2-3 seconds. It gets annoying after a while obviously.
my computer specs are as follows:
Windows 7 32-bit
Pentium 4 3.2 GHz HT
1.5GB RAM
160GB HDD
nVidia 8800GS video card
has anyone else experienced this or can anyone recommend a solution to fixing the problem?
