Screen Shuts Off With Windows Media Center
Oct 4, 2011Windows media center will not prevent the screen from shutting off when its suppose to. Is there some way to fix this other than changing the power settings for win 7 64bit.

Windows Media Center Blacked Out My Screen
Apr 28, 2011I got my computer six months ago and never bothered with Windows Media Center. In order to see TV on my computer, I needed a TV tuner. Since I am a member with Netflix and Microsoft promoted Netflix working on the Center, I tried to use it without the tuner and just play media from my hard drive and Netflix but it did not work. The Netflix rep. said they had issues with it working with their software. In addition, the Microsoft tech. said I needed the tuner for it to work at all. Six months later, I get an email from Microsoft suggesting uninstalling software I do not use to improve the PC�s performance. Therefore, I decided to get rid of Windows Media Center never using it. However, I wanted to try it again and see if it could work now. To my surprise, it worked beautifully organizing the media from my hard drive and Netflix worked on it. I had to download software to get it working and I do not know what I downloaded but it seemed to work. Then, suddenly the screen went black with the white curser from my mouse the only thing I could see. I tried to reboot a minute later and I was able to log on but instead of going to the desktop, a black screen reappeared. I shut the computer down and waited 20 minutes before turning it on. After I logged in, Windows 7 opened to the desktop. Are there any issues with Windows Media Center and, can I operate it without a TV tuner or should I uninstall it since I do not plan to get the TV tuner?

Sep 16, 2012verything was working fine, i could use media center for watching TV, recording. ect .. all of it. I didn't install any updates, or add any new hardware or anything. I'm so at a lost as to why video won't work. I use WINTV7 and everything is perfect. Like to use WMC as it is had your tv listings and and quickly record what i want.
On Screen Control Media Center
Dec 12, 2009This is a little embarrassing, but I can't seem to find out what some of the on screen control are doing when watching live TV. That is, the small coloured button on the left hand side of the screen, to the left of the Text TV button. Also, the two button to the left of the coloured button, I am grateful for any advice. My TV works just fine by the way, jsut that I like to know what option there is to use.

Nov 29, 2009I have a dual screen setup (PC & TV) & just upgraded from mce2005. Whenever mce2005 started up, media center automatically displayed on my tv screen rather than my pc monitor. With Windows 7 it seems to display on my PC monitor at startup, even though I have dragged it onto the tv screen the previous time I used it. Is there a way I can get it to start up on my tv screen but keep my PC monitor as my primary screen? My video card is an nVidia GeForce 7300LE
PS It's also time for a video card upgrade as live TV is very choppy - would people recommend ATI or nVidia?
Xbox 360 With Media Center And Lines Across Screen
Mar 12, 2012i am having an issue with media center through my Xbox 360 i am using a VGA cable to my Xbox and running it through a monitor everything is fine when i'm playing games and what not but when i open media center it has weird lines across the screen i have tried everything i can think of, i changed the resolution and it didn't have lines but obviously the picture wasn't quite right, change the resolution back to normal and the lines come back.

Jul 10, 2012Lately when I run Windows Media Center and I'm watching live TV, the screen will just go black and the sound will stop. I can't get anything to come up on the monitor (goes into sleep mode), yet the hard drive is still going and power is on the pc. I have to power down the pc and reboot it. I have checked all my power settings and made sure they are good, I have the latest driver for my Nvidia graphics card.
I never had this problem and then began about a month ago and seemed to go away. Lately it is back. WMC will play live tv for about 10 minutes and then black screen. I have run malware and anti virus programs, nothing detected. Updated graphics card, pc isn't overheating. I have run out of ideas why WMC is going to a black screen. If I run just the pc, I have no problems, it's only when WMC is running.
Stop Media Center From Locking Screen/mouse?
Jan 15, 2010Ok I have multiple monitors & like to watch movies while I do other things at the same time.Now I LOVE Media Center, I think its fantastic.But it locks down the monitor & mouse that it opens up on, not allowing me to do other things on my other monitors.

Jul 25, 2011I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

Jan 15, 2009I have checked two seperate DVD movies and they stop after the splash screens, FBI warning and Corporate logos, and never make it to the DVD menu.
This DVD player is an external player and I have no problem with playback on my Dual boot with Vista Home Premium.

Dec 20, 2009I can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jul 2, 2012I recently tried to use windows media center to connect to my xbox. I've had my hp laptop for over 2 years now and may have never even used WMC. But whenever I try to launch it, the blue wheel next to the mouse pops up for a second and then nothing. Nothing happens at all.
I've tried going to programs and features and turning off both WMC and WMP, restarting, and then re-enabling them. This has done nothing. I've even gone into Windowsehome and deleted all the files in it and did the disable/enable thing (I did, of course, make a backup of the folder). I looked through the programs and features themselves, hoping to find WMC so I could see if there was a repair option, but it doesn't show up. How can I make WMC work?
Windows Media Center Crashed?
Nov 8, 2012I started watching an OTA recording with WMC7 and about 2 minutes into it WMC7 stopped. A message came up saying it stopped & had options to restart WMC or go online (which appeared to send info to MS) and a 3rd option I don't recall. I just restarted & everything worked just fine.
I looked at event logs & found this. I did a search for that ntdll.dll but could not find a definitive answer to what caused the problem. The typical comments were to reboot or reinstall software. Is there anything from this listing that tells or hints at what caused WMC to stop?

How To Disable Windows Media Center
Dec 23, 2012I can't open any programs because of windows media center. I tried to access the "default program" which can be found on the control panel but still the WMC pops out and also the regedit in the start-up menu still WMC pops out. All my app icons are WMC. If i open it WMC will pop out. Lastly, I tried to make a system restore but it didn't work because WMC pops out again.
