Restarting Windows 7 Hangs - Drive Light Flickers A Bit
Aug 28, 2010
Windows 7 Professional 64bit. When I try to perform a restart, the computer goes into oblivion. Drive light flickers a bit but I've let it rest over an hour and it didn't restart. Have to press the reset button. Otherwise everything seems OK. I've run deep scans with Malwarebytes and Kaspersky and no warnings.
I've been noticing after re-installing Win 7 that I get random floppy drive seeks and the hard drive light flashes like crazy and then everything is fine again.I have Clamwin AV,Spyware Blaster and Spybot S&D installed, but that's it,no Windows Defender or Essentials AV.Any ideas what causes this? It's a minor annoyance, but I just want to make sure it's not damaging anything. Also would Readyboost help me? I've got 2 gigs dual channel PC3200 ram(or I could go with 2.5 gig single channel PC2700)and a P4 at 3 gig until I can afford to upgrade my comp. This is my first post in quite awhile so I hope this is in the right place
I am little bit worried about my harddrive. Previously I had 80 gb harddrive and then I upgraded it to 320 gb. I have dell latitude d630 laptop with two operating system. Windows 7 and XP. When I use Windows 7 then my computer specially hard drive light stays on and mouse is busy and I have to restart my laptop however in my XP this problem is never seen. I also installed vista and deep formatted the hard drive but the problem still persists in windows 7. The system is normal but when I surf internet via mozilla or chrome. This problem arises. I have done everytrouble shooting I can chkdsk and everything but when I use chkdsk in my western digital harddrive, it says error. I am thinking its harddrive issue what do u say?

I have put a SSD as my main drive. Running Windows 7 64-bit. I am now concerned that Windows 7 will wear this drive out as the drive light flashes constantly about 1-2 times per second. What could it possibly be doing sitting idle.
I have a lenovo pc 9210 all diags pass all hardware is good. was running xp fine loaded vista ok loaded windows 7 32 bit runs ok, needs windows 7 64 bit...loaded windows 7 64, reboots after load begins first time setup then completes as normalreboots ....and hard drive light blinks .... then starts to start windows 7 but gets the four colored dots then just sits there no more hd lights no , no nothing.
I upgraded my HP Pavilion a1540n Desktop to Windows 7 a week ago. Ever since, my hard drive light constantly blinks. After looking at the disk activity in the Windows Resource Monitor and doing some research I am leaning towards the page file as the problem. I am not sure if that is in fact the problem as there seems to be quite a few processes creating high disk activity, including Firefox profile cache, $Logfile, and MpWppTracing.bin. I only have 1GB of RAM. Would I be better served to add RAM before doing anything else like using Cacheman?
Just bought a new hard drive due to my old one was failing. This is the same exact hard drive I had.Whenever I try installing windows 7, it "completes", then the screen blinks skips, and skips the "Create a user account" and just hangs at "Completing Installation". I thought I would give it a try and disable my gfx driver just to see if that would work.
I can't seem to find a solution anywhere but the problem is. I have one central computer with windows 7 on it. When any computer in the house, whether it be my laptop with Vista, my desktop with XP, or my other desktop with Windows 7 connects to that network drive it hangs for a couple minutes before being able to open the file, or copy the file. This happens on all 3 machines accessing the network drive on the central computer. This same result occurred when I setup my other desktop with windows 7 so that makes me think its something with windows 7 itself.I do not have any firewall/antivirus programs installed, and I even turned off windows firewall and windows defender on the server that were all accessing.
I have a custom built pc, has quad core phenom processor 4gb ram. Gigabyte motherboard 500gb hard drive with windows 8 preview installed. And a formatted 250gb. I'm trying to install windows 7 on the formatted drive but every time off cd hangs on expanding files. So I thought I'd try USB stick. Got a 16gb cruzer blade. Formatted and made bootable. Windows on it. Will start via my computer but whenever I try booting it on standup I get an error about not being digitally signed. I've tried numerous things but will not boot from USB.
yesterday i dl'd Spybot SnD, did a scan. After that i shut down my PC. When i turned on my pc at the morning, boot went on without problems. This flickering started at logon screen. I removed video drivers and the problem stopped, tried installing different drivers, but the problem goes on then.
I recently updated the Intel HD Graphics driver to the latest version, but now it flickers every time I want to plug in my charger or take it out. It's really annoying and I'm not sure why this just started happening. hey everyone,i have notice a problem on my computer. the problem have become more noticeable recently and it happens occasionally.to get to the point, when i was playing Internet video, the screen would flicker and the Internet video would become green.after refreshing the page, the Internet video become normal again.at first,i thought it was due to multiple taps of Internet video, but just now, when there was only 1 page of Internet video, the screen flickers again and the video become green.
I recently got a fresh win7 install on my desktop and after a couple days some extreme flickering and screen distortion appeared. I tried disabling and uninstalling certain drives, did rollbacks etc. the problem persists. Booted in safe mode and the screen didn't give me any trouble also during boot up everything is fine but the flickering goes on from the welcome screen. I have an onboard 4250 if that's relevant.
I have a Windows Server 2008 file server with DFS Namespace role. The server hosts file services and uses DFS-R to replicate content to another member server. One of the folders has a Users directory where PST files are located. When these files are open, DFS-R will not replicate them but queue them in a backlog. Once the backlog grows significantly, the client machines tend to lock up when trying to access the shared drives. The drives are mapped using the DFS namespace, but even navigating using UNC path will still lock up. This is seen with Windows 7 clients and XP clients seems to be fine. If I exclude PSTs from DFS-R the issue does not occur.
I should mention that there is a DPM 2010 server in the environment that backs up the file/print server. The sync is set to every 15 minutes. Recovery points are during the day and XP and Windows 7 clients can lock up if a recovery point is running at the same time as a DFS backlog. If there is no backlog, all seems to run fine. Is there some option in Windows 7 that is attempting to index network drives? I've checked the settings in Indexing Options and don't see anything that stands out. Like I said, I currently have PSTs excluded so the issue does not happen right now, but once I enable them and a backlog starts to build, the issue happens again.
Just reinstalled Windows 7 x64 (no SP1) and I noticed a weird problem. It happens everywhere, but I can best explain it with Task Manager. If you have Task Manager open and you try to resize the window with your mouse, the top tabs (Applications, Processes, Services etc.) flicker.
I have "show windows contents while dragging" enabled. I have Windows classic theme, but I asked a friend with the default Windows 7 theme and he has the same problem.
I don't remember having this problem before re-installing Windows 7 and I have the same chipset/video drivers.
I'm not quite sure how to describe the issue(hence the title) but through several diagnosis I think the Graphics on the motherboard is failing. There is no add-on graphics, the system is a HP Pavilion P6310Y, AMD Athlon 2, 6GB of RAM, 1 TB of HDD Space. The onboard Graphics is NVidia GeForce 9100. The PC is about 3-4 years old. What is happening is the screen flickers and then either goes black or becomes a certain color. This happens whenever the PC is doing something involving alot of data(Scan Disk, Virus Scan, Email, Remote Desktop). The harder part is being able to tell whether the computer is crashing or after the graphics fails that the computer is still processing. I'm going go with a no because I have a feeling this could be an overheating issue as well.I have is if it is only the Graphics, would installing a Graphics Card solve the problem? Or will the rest of the motherboard eventually fail also?
Wasn't sure how to classify what's happening but I recently installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit. It ran alright for a few days but over the last 2 days, I've been getting a flickering type problem. Now whatever is causing this is also affecting my ability to click or tab items or right click an item. Ex: If I have task manager open and want to close it; I right click it in the task bar to click close but the minute I move to click close the menu disappears.
When i open up my trading screen my 2nd monitor starts to flicker especially if i move charts accross to the second monitor. Everything else seems to be ok as long as i do not open up trading windows.
I have been playing EA Sports Cricket 07 for a while now and used to work well with XP. But in Windows 7 there seems to be some problem with it the screen keeps flickering randomly while playing the game. I tried compatibility mode but it still continued. I really like the game and I don't have a system that can support latest games so I want a way to play this game and get rid of this flickering.
I have had this problem intermittently ever since I got this computer three years ago. It seems whenever I use my undocked laptop, and then dock it and use my external 1920x1080 monitor, it flickers quite a bit. The only solutions thus far have been to 1) reduce the resolution 2) restart 3) make sure my laptop isn't asleep when I dock it, as the problem seems to only happen when it is undocked, put on sleep, and then woken up.
This happens randomly, starting about a month ago. I'm on Windows 7 64bit, and every so often my monitor would flicker black just once, and once it goes back from blackness for a second, the task bar would be totally plain and white. The internet would also be disconnected with no way to go back to normal unless I restart. Half the time, the computer crashes after I restart making me use a restore point.
Does this have to do with hardware? I run diagnostics and memtest86 and half the time it says something is wrong with my RAM, then when I reinsert them, the tests say I'm ok. Then when this happen again, my ram tests faulty again. I have no idea what's going on. Any light on this situation would make me very appreciative.
I am using windows 7 ultimate. Whenever I open any folder in my hard drive, my computer gets hang and is closed by itself. It shows windows explorer has stopped working.. so restart it. I have already formatted my D and E drive . But problem still persist.
i have a problem with my year old desktop pc and random screen corruption when i startup the pc. sometimes it does it once a month, but in the last week its happened it every day. this is a video of what happens but its not always the same, but its always at startup. usually anytime upto and including the windows login screen, but never before or during the bios screen. once it corrupts i then need to hard reset, soft reset does nothing. also, after a successful reboot windows complains of a previous bluescreen. all drivers are up to date. nvidia_gtx465_corruption.3gp - Internet i`ve tried replacing the graphics card and i still had problems and i`ve reinstalled windows 7. i`m thinking the next thing is to replace the psu? whats strange is that it never goes wrong once windows is up and running, its only at startup. it also cause the external monitor (tv) to blank out and it freezes the pc ie caps lock, etc dont function. i`ve also tried it in someone else`s house with different monitor and the same occurred.
All of a sudden I cannot open CCC. The mouse flickers like it is loading it and then nothing occurs. I have uninstalled ATI 12.4 fully and drive sweepered it and reinstalled and still have the issue.
whilst playing games (mostly RTS) my screen flickers then goes black, sometimes goes to the desktop or the game loading screen then resumes the game?My GPU is an NVidia GTS 250, I have updated the driver to the latest version but the issue still persists, the issue isnt with one particular game, it happens on Dawn of war 2, king arthur fallen champions, war hammer mark of chaos. From the sys reqs my system should be more that capable of running them.
I am having trouble with my start menu closing a second or 2 after I click the start button, then the toolbar and desktop icons quickly flash twice. So I can't get into certain programs or apps.
I am using dell insipiron n5010. Windows was slow for thrower couple of days and today it's not even loading the desktop and the startup to the welcome page is dead slow. The hdd light is always on display.
One big issue for me in Windows 7 after XP is that text in browser windows (like in IE9, Firefox and Thunderbird) lacks contrast - it's a pale grey rather than the black I had in the same apps in XP. Actually this text is pale grey as I type it.This seems to be "global" and no amount of fiddling in the apps themselves does any good. There was never any problem in XP.I'm using an Aero theme, but I've tried a basic theme and tried chaning the window colours manually.
