Removing/Delaying Tooltips?

Oct 12, 2010

Is there anyway to remove or delay these annoying tooltips when hovering over anything in windows 7?They are seriously annoying and useless. I remember i had the same problem in win xp and never found a way to disable all of them. I was hoping this would change in Windows 7 but seems like it didn't.

Computer Delaying For Long Time When Doing Anything

May 28, 2011

Whenever I want to install a program, my computer takes forever to show the window that guides you through the installation. For example, I download Firefox, Double-click the .exe installation package and then nothing happens for literally 4 or 5 minutes. Eventually the wizard installation window will open and allow me to install by clicking Next etc. But why is there such a delay for the setup window to initially appear. My computer never did this when it was brand new.

Suggestions For Delaying Startup Programs?

Apr 30, 2012

I just purchased a new Acer 4830TG (i5 2.5 GHz) and immediately replaced the HD with a SanDisk Extreme (550 MB/s read, 510 MB/s write).I have certain programs in the Startup folder- Excel workspace (6 spreadsheets) for my business, Word, Firefox (with approx 35 tabs) and Thunderbird. I like to hit the power button, enter my password, then go make my coffee and come back to find everything loaded and my morning emails all downloaded (4 different accounts).Except now Firefox and Thunderbird are loading so fast the wireless network has not finished connecting before they start sending requests, and of course I am getting network connection errors.I can't believe I am actually having to ask this, but does anyone have any suggestions for freebie programs that can delay the loading of programs in the startup folder? Or tell me how to write a batch file of some kind that call these programs with a delay scripted in?

Way To Disable Tooltips Entirely?

Oct 13, 2012

I know its probably the most asked Windows question there is, but has any one found a way to disable tooltips entirely? I've done the easily found registry edit ShowTipInfo for Explorer - doesnt change anything for me, ANYWHERE. I still get tooltips in IE.They're driving me nuts and are now appearing in the weirdest locations sometimes - namely the TOP of my screen. - for no apparent reason, I certainly didnt (knowingly) change anything.

How To Turn Off Getting Mouseover Tooltips

Dec 14, 2011

How to make it stop, when you put your mouse over an item it eventually pops up with a little box that tells you what it is? Like you put your mouse over the back button and it eventually tells you "Back". Well, mine doesn't wait. It pops up right away most of the time, especially in my favorites and on items on my taskbar. They're called tooltips. I found how to disable it in the regedit, but it didn't change anything. I'm still getting the tooltips. However, I just logged off and back on (which has worked fine in the past for other regedit changed)... it says to reboot. Do I really need to? Deleted the value in the regedit entirely. Rebooted. No change.

How To Get Rid Of Windows 7 Tooltips And Infotips

Dec 20, 2011

I can't find any current guide (that works) in terms of how to get rid of the tooltips and infotips for Windows 7 (e.g. When you hover over Start, a small box appears that says "Start" or when you hover over the top right X, a small box appears that says "Close".). I find the tips highly annoying and was wondering if there was a way to get rid of all Windows 7 tooltips and infotips on my computer. If so, how do you do it?

Removing Windows 7 Old Partition?

May 21, 2011

I do an annual windows reinstall from an iso I made of the windows boot CD when I bought windows 7. I made the iso because it's easier to keep track of files rather than CDs, and whenever I would need to reinstall I would burn the iso to a disc, install from the disc, and throw out the disc once the install was complete. Well tonight I ran out of CDs with a large enough capacity to hold the iso, so I decided to get a bit fancy.

I mounted the iso and ran the setup utility through windows, and had it install a new partition of windows to one of my unused storage drives. The install went well, I restarted, and saw that there was an option to boot from two partitions of windows 7. I eventually figured out which one was the new one, and once desktop loaded up I went into msconfig and removed the old partition from the boot tab.

The problem pops up when I went back to reformat the old partition. It gave me an error stating that it cannot format a system drive. I figure that this is because the old partition is still active somehow even though I removed it from the msconfig boot menu.

Through a bit of googling I got a general idea of what had to be done, so I went into disk management and set the new partition to 'active'. I then restarted and went into BIOS, and switched the disk boot order so that the new partition came before the old partition. My bios did not like this, because it gave me an error about NTLDR missing. So it almost appears that the NTLDR thing isn't on the new partition, but that's just a guesstimation.

Other information:
- Old partition is "disk 0" in disk management
- New partition is "disk 1" in disk management
- I cannot modify or delete any of the system files on the old partition when I'm booted in the new partition.

Removing Entry From Add/remove?

Dec 30, 2011

I have removed a program from my Win 7 HP SP1 64-bit system but its entry still appears in both Win Add/Remove and Revo Uninstaller. I have tried the technique suggested by just about every Google search return for the problem (regedit: HKLM...current version >> uninstall) but the program does not appear in that list.I have gone through the registry and removed every reference to the program I could find by expanding literally every branch in Current User, Local Machine and Users. The entry still remains. The problem it creates is that is is being used as a default program selection for opening more than a few file types and I would like to be rid of it.

Removing VAIO Crapware

Jun 22, 2012

I have just bought a new Sony VAIO laptop which came in with a lot of different VAIO programs on it. Gaming was the main reason for buying this baby, so I thought I should keep it as clean as possible, since I will never use any of the fancy features VAIO provides (and quite frankly, I am a neat freak, so having all these programs would make me paranoid about slowing my cpu). I am currently following these steps highlighted here (url) Your-Windows-Computer to remove all unnecessary programs (including swapping over the anti viruses). is it safe to blatantly remove all VAIO programs through add or remove programs feature? I am afraid some of them might be important for windows and by removing them I would cause more issues (example- VAIO Wireless Easy Connect/Smart Network. Im more than happy to have a standard windows option tool, so would I be ok if I delete VAIO one?)

Locating And Removing BabylonTB?

Jul 12, 2012

This topic has possibly been posted before but 'search' brought up huge lists of data, copy and pasted from other posters' computers, - it was confusing.Basically, I downloaded Java as I need it to do an online course. As part of the download, I didn't untick the "recommended" toolbar MyBabylonTB as I assumed it was needed. A later Norton scan showed that MyBabylonTB had been allowed to access my computer.n anti-Malware scan didn't show up this software but I want to remove it. On the Norton forum, someone suggested this:"Download OTLDisable Norton for say 30 minutesStart OTL, Click the Scan All Users checkbox.Change file age to 90 daysPress the "Run Scan"An OTL.txt and extras.txt will be created".Has anyone else done this? Does it work and how exactly does this locate and remove MyBabylonTB? Also how do I disable the current antivirus system on my computer?

Removing Recovery Partition

Oct 30, 2009

Just want to run something by you guys before I install my compy of Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop.

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi 2250 with Vista Home Premium. When I got the laptop I created the restore DVD:s (3) and have since then used them a couple of times.

From what I've gathered reading trough this and other forums, and from my own knowledge and experience it should be safe to remove the recovery partition from the HD right? Or could I run in to some kind of problem if I'd like to go back to Vista using my recovery DVD:s and the partition is not there? As I understand it if I for example had a Dell it whould be ok, but could it be different on my computer? Or do these recovery-partitions always work the same way?

Also, if I decide to leave the partition there and I do a clean install of Windows 7 will this do anything to the restore partition? Cause in that case I could just leave it there right?

7 And XP - Recovery Console - Removing XP

Mar 26, 2009

I've installed Windows 7 Build 7057 on a partition where I previously had Windows XP. I wanted this installation to wipe out the XP, but instead it created a Windows.old folder. I've deleted that folder, but now when the system starts up a black screen with three options shows up:

1. Previous Windows

2. Windows 7

3. Windows Recovery Console

This Recovery Console was installed when I had the XP, I have no idea why it's still there.

I would like to remove any traces of XP and this console so that the system can boot 7 right away.

Also, a tiny thing: for like 2 seconds a black screen with all drives attached shows up, I'd like to remove that one, too.

Could you tell me how to do it?
