Recommendation For Secure Task Management Software?

Jan 25, 2013

My office needs task management software that allows multi-user real-time changes with all the basic features (prioritization, deadlines, etc). Even a blank googledocs spreadsheet would work, but the problem is that we need this to be secure and off-line behind our secure server's firewall. My coworkers have tried to use Microsoft Outlook's "Tasks", but they didn't like the fact that it forced them to assign tasks to specific people. Also, I did see that GoogleDocs can be run offline, but i'm not sure how that works or if that would meet our needs.

Graphic Card Recommendation

Sep 11, 2009

Currently I'm working on an rather old PC with an onboard graphic-chip. I just installed Win 7 and it works great - the only problem is, areo isn't working on this machine... and now I'm looking for an cheap graphic card that meets the necessary requirements for aero. I don't play games or use graphic programs, so I really don't need a good graphic card - all I want is areo to work. So, if there are any recommendations on which graphic card I can buy, I'd very much appreciate any hints!

Video Card Recommendation

Sep 16, 2009

Well, my ATI AIW 1800XL finally bit the dust. The TV software hasn't been supported since Vista (and I'd just bought it before Vista went beta...) and I've been using Windows drivers since Windows 7 Beta. Now running 7 RTM.

Today, whilst only playing mp3s with WMP12, the system locked up and refused to boot. Throwing a cheap card in got me up and running, but I'm now browsing Newegg for cards. I've been using ATI for years, but am not opposed to Nvidia (although there are some complaints here regarding driver installation...).

Here are my uses:

I use this system heavily for business. This includes a lot of CS3 use and large, layered image files (blueprints). Since my office is in my home, this machine is not only my main business machine, but it gets a LOT of personal use as well, which includes movies, etc. I have also been known to install a game now and then (but not all that often).

I guess I'd like the ability to run GPU intensive games, but that may not happen (time is at a premium). The games I have copies of at the moment are Far Cry and Far Cry 2 (FC2 came with a 9550 CPU). I've heard good things about Crysis, but again, I may never go there. I guess I'm looking for a compromise? I'd like to keep the cost at around $120 or lower.

Relevant Specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit RTM

Q9550 CPU

8GB Gskill DDR2 PC2 6400

Gigabyte EP45-UD3r (PCI-E 2.0 16x)

Can someone please recommend a USB Wireless Adapter that works well with Windows 7 so I can just buy a new one that will actually work and not waste anymore time.

Sound Card Recommendation

Dec 19, 2009

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 on a Dell XPS 600. The sound card is a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music. The sound is awful (when I even HAVE sound). Crackling and popping and then stopping altogether. Looking on the Creative site, it seems the most recent drivers are 2006 (I know, I don't have the most recent computer!).

If I opt for a new sound card, what should I get?

Currently I am trying to use a hauppauge 1250 tuner card but am not able to get digital channels, only analog. Am using it with a digital cable box with coax connection. This card is 3 years old. Would one of the newer cards work better for hd tv on my computer? I have downloaded latest drivers/software from Hauppauge.

Creating A Task Scheduler Task To Move Files Over A Network?

Mar 31, 2011

i need to have a task run that will move the contents of a folder from one computer to another over my home LAN. Files get downloaded during the night on one computer and then need to be transfered to another. Usually I am doing this by hand, but then though maybe I could get the task scheduler to do it for me.I understand how to create a task, however I am having trouble with the action tab. I was thinking that I should start windows explorer (where is explorer located for win 7 x64 machines?) under the action tab, but once I do this I am not sure how to tell explorer to check the source folder, select all the files in it and then move it to the target folder.

Game Runs From Task Manager With New Task Not From Shortcut Or Exe?

Sep 24, 2012

I have installed this game, Singularity. The game worked fine for a week then suddenly It would crash as soon as it was opened from the desktop shortcut. The game is patched to it's latest version, I have direct x all other runtimes and PhysX installed from the CD. The shortcut it set to run as Admin in compatibility. No matter if i try with the desktop shortcut or from the exe in the folder or from the shortcut in the start menu the game will crash asap. The only way this game runs is by pulling up task manager and selecting New Task then browsing to the games exe. Malwarebytes reports no viruses or any malware. Tried reinstalling, and it didn't help.

Missing Task In Task Scheduler After Computer Name Change?

Apr 11, 2012

Setting up a new Windows 7 install and goofed up the computer name and didnt immediately notice. I had already setup a task to run upon logon when I noticed that the PC's name was all jacked. So I changed the pc's name and rebooted. After reboot the task disappeared from the task scheduler list but still runs. Is there anyway to remove this ghost task when it is no longer visible in the task scheduler?I thought about changing the name back temporarily to see if the task would show up but I have no idea what that name was, so that is not an option.

Windows 7 64bits Task Scheduler, The Selected Task "{0}" No Longer Exists

Oct 3, 2012

So I don't know when this: "the selected task "{0}" no longer exists. to see the current task, click refresh" error started but I don't know how to repair this.
When I start task scheduler I first get this error and than no matter what folder I click the error pops up again. After this 2nd error it doesn't pop up anymore but all the folders show up empty.

Tried fixes:

Emptying all task folders in C:WindowsSystem32Tasks Download Fix My Task Scheduler 1.0 Free - Repair all Task Scheduler errors - Softpedia
/sfc scannow
Programs believed to cause this issue:
CCleaner
Defraggler

Sadly I have both

it causes some programs to not boot correctly. Like MSIafterburner gives an error, so I have to go to the config settings of MSIafterburner because it tries to boot using the taskscheduler really weird I know :/

Is Win 7 More Secure Than Linux And Leopard ?

Apr 14, 2009

will Windows 7 be the most secure operating system ever? Microsoft seem to think so. Microsoft's Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner made the following bold statement yesterday: Vista today, post-Service Pack 2, which is now in the marketplace, is the safest, most reliable OS we've ever built. It's also the most secure OS on the planet, including Linux and open source and Apple Leopard.

It's the safest and most secure OS on the planet today. Everything that we've learned in Vista will be leveraged in Windows 7, but certainly when we broke a lot of the compatibility issues to lock down user account controls, to lock do wn the ability to manipulate states and all the things, that was a very painful process for us to grow through, but we had to do it.

And the reason that Windows 7 will be successful is because of the pain we took on Vista. Because from a compatibility standpoint, if it works on Vista, it will work on Windows 7. If it doesn't work on Vista, it won't work on Windows 7.

I'm glad he stopped short of saying that Windows 7 will be the most secure operating system in the universe!
