View 6 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was anyway that I could make like a master copy of an OS, particularly Windows XP, but also Vista and 7. If this is a lame question please forgive me as I am not the most computer savvy , but I'm looking to have a copy of each of the above mentioned OS's that I can use to trouble shoot my friends and families computers, but I'm afraid I'm going to run into issues with the product keys only being able to be used a limited number of times. Is there anyway around this? Is there a more expensive master copy type disk that you can buy for such a purpose?
View 7 Replies View RelatedToday I just used a removal tool by Symantec to remove the virus Tidserv Activity on one of my laptops. I restarted the computer and it wouldn't boot. Now I need to restore the MBR since the MBR was infected. It's a Dell laptop. I found that the laptop has System Recovery preinstalled. The instructions Symantec gave me to remove the virus says to use the Windows 7 CD-ROM to restore the MBR, which I don't have.I do however have a Windows 7 re-installation DVD, if reinstallation makes a difference. Can I use the re-installation DVD and is that safer? Or is it okay to just go to System Recovery since it's already pre-installed?My third question is after I decide which way to go about tackling this issue, how do I manually restore the MBR? I've faintly entered "fixmbr" command in the command prompt but it didn't work, basically saying it wasn't a valid command.

This happened about 7 times or so.Today same problem. My reaction the same. But while booting I got a message that the 950 GB partition cannot be accessed because MFT is corrupt.Browsed through Windows 7 Forums and as advised in one of the threads downloaded Testdisk.Ran the program but unfotunately the dreaded message that both MFT and Mirror MFT are corrupt.Have lot of badly needed Data and I really want to recover it.

View 3 Replies View Relatedsince today I've got Windows 7 RC1 64Bit installed on my PC & I've got a cruel problem.
I have an iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 and a desktop resolution of 1280x1024 with 100hz - until today!
But, it seems to be, that this is not possible with Windows 7.
Every time if I try to want to set the hz value to more than 85, the monitor automatically turns the value back to 85.
In Counter Strike 1.6 it is the same. I've played with a resolution of 640x480 with 150hz. But now, everytime I start the game, it is in the window mode with 60hz.
In the Nvidia System control there was an option where you can configure user-specific resolutions to get higher frequencies (like in CS 1.6, 150hz), but it's impossible to change there anything.
I've already installed the latest Nvidia drivers for my 8800GTX and the monitor drivers as well.
I have found an tutorial, but it doesn't helped me as well: GF8800GTX / Vista 64-bit / refresh rates > 100Hz ?
Maybe someone has an another idea to help me?
I downloaded EasyBCD 2.1.2, used it to recognize EVERY boot record, deleted the MBR on the old HDD, and rebooted. Now, the system boots straight to the new HDD without prompt from bootloader (which is good) but still requires the presence of the old HDD (I disconnected it, alas...)In the end: I called and told the customer that "I'd be happy to GHOST all her data and slap a fresh Windows 7 install on the new HDD (with a fresh/whole MBR) and then drop all her data back onto it. However, this would require more time; the other option being that she accepts the machine for what it is, perfectly functional minus the dependency on the old HDD."have considered this option, but I found ZERO indication of the old HDD failing, other than "BAD" written on the drive with Sharpie. The customer was happy yesterday and accepted the current state (she didn't want to invest more time/money into it) but today when she picks it up she isn't happy because she was told four months ago that the drive was bad and now I'm saying I don't see an indication of it. Other than pulling the data, installing fresh OS, then dropping data back on; or not installing OS with two drives present in the first place?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI am using Asus UEFI M5A97 motherboard. I have GPT formatted WD30EZRX Caviar Green 3T. The OS is Win7 64-bit Ultimate. The system is working fine with that hd. I have another hd WD2002FAEX, a Western Digitial 2T Black edition. On it, there is also similar OS Win7 64-bit Ultimate. This one is formatted in normal MBR. It is also working fine on its own.The problem arise when I am attaching both the hds on the system. I want to boot on the 3T and to treat the 2T as secondary (slave). When I do that the system does not boot. So far I am not able to configure the BIOS to make it work. After a few trying with the BIOS settings, the system manages to boot on the 2T but that is not what I wanted.
The only way I could use all the hd is by 'brute-forth'. I think that's the term. I make use of hds hot swapable. Leave the side cover open at all times. Plug the power cables to all available hds (but not the sata cables - the cables are plugged onto the board only). Plug the sata cable to the 3T drive and boot the system. When the system is up, plug the other sata cable to the other hd that I want to use as secondary. Plug in more sata cables to other hds if you need. I tried with four and the system recognizes them all.
We have 8 machines that we need to control and image at our ghost station. The problem we have is the fact that our kvm switch has to be pressed every time we are configuring the next machine to join the multicast sessions of Norton Ghost. Is there any software that allows one master computer to have at least a 4-network desktop view of computers on a local network on one screen? For example, the program would be a big window that would house the other connected slave computers and display their desktop screen on the master computer within the window. It would do the same for the other three computers and you can navigate between them all by moving the mouse over it to gain it's focus and move to the next and gain its focus.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter I used "Acronis Disk Director" in a HirenBoot CD to cut some space from my D drive to my C drive (boot drive), I've got this "Windows is checking the D drive" then "Corrupted master file table. Checkdisk is aborted" on my D drive. After doing some homework, I've tried corrected it by using testdisk's Fix MFT function but "Both of the MFT files are corrupted. Can't fix". I did not back up the whole partition. I do not really want to buy $60 + commercial software that TestDisk recommends just to fix this possibly once-in-a-lifetime issue. However, if recovery softwares is the only option left, then I have to use them.

My original OS Windows 7 was on a normal hard drive and I installed a second copy of Windows 7 on a new SSD drive that I got and used it as my primary and left everything on the old one just didn't delete it. When the time came for me to finally say bye bye to all the previous items on the former drive since I was now using the SSD for OS and applications I formated using the Windows 7 startup disc. I cannot boot from the SSD nor does it even show in Device Manager (I'm gonna check the connections for that) This information is still recoverable I know but what's the best way to go about it. Will I be able to use the SSD to boot widows again if I repair this one thing? Can I at least get my files back somehow?
