Is it possible to lock the microphone level so that applications no longer are able to adjust its level? Often with games that have in-game voice chat capability, you'll notice that they turn your microphone level up to 100. A small thing really, but sort of annoying when you have to revert it back, even though most of the time it's just once.
So Windows 7 has a feature that will auto-adjust the volume during video chatting. Seems like a good idea but in reality it just brings down the volume to a point to where I cant even hear the person. I have done some research on this but everything I could find said to go to Sound Settings -> Communications Tab -> and check the box that says "Do Nothing".I did this but it had no effect on Live Messenger. I downloaded Yahoo Messenger and it doesn't have this audio problem. I would much rather use Live Messenger because the video quality is MUCH better than other video chatting programs but I cant seem to get passed this problem.
29th September 2012 Edit: Updated is a well known windows 7 / adobe bug which has [UR;}
So I've not long migrated from XP to 7 and I've noticed that every time I watch or stream audio my Adobe Flash Player 11 which I like to set to 50% in Volume Mixer jumps up to 75% which makes the audio playback distorted & poor sound quality.
How do I get it to stay at 50% ? Usually I do like to set volumes to 75% which is what I've got my Realtek Device set to but Adobe crackles and sounds bad at 75% so I have to set it to 50%
I've recently got a new computer laptop with Windows 7 and the first thing I noticed that the screen is much brighter (and maybe more saturated) than my previous laptop (with Windows XP). First I thought it was my laptop, but then I saw an other computer with Windows 7, and the screen there is very bright too. I searched the net and I see that there are more people complaining about the brightness on Windows 7.I understand that I can set the screen brightness, but it seems like a fact that the "default" brightness on Windows 7 is way brighter than on Windows XP. Some people are probably accustomed to this, but to me it's too much. I can decrease the brightness with the laptopl's controls on the keyboard, but I think that's not the way to go - I think I should look at the Windows 7 configuration. I could go to the ATI Catalyst, but is there an other way? Is the Calibration tool the only option?
I frequently use numbered indents but have to adjust the indent each time in a new document by right clicking against the number, adjusting the indent, and then clicking OK. How can I fix the indent to a required distance so that it is the same for every new document without having to adjust each time. In XP this was a simple exercise - but I have yet to find it in 7.
My keyboard has been not working properly. After 1 automatic update from Windows in October, I was unable to use my keyboard or the touchpad unless I went to the keyboard function window and adjusted the blink speed of the cursor. Afterwards, I could at least type.
I have since deleted the driver and reinstalled it, rather it was reinstalled automatically on restart. It has given me use of the touchpad, but now some of the buttons are not associated properly. I intend to type an L and a 3 comes out.
Is there any "modeline" equivalent for Windows 7? I want to set the pixel clock rate. When I run at 1680 X 1050 60 Hz refresh the pixel clock is 119MHz. When I switch to 120 Hz refresh it goes to 166MHz. Assumed it would just use the second link in the Dual Link DVI to double the bandwidth. I assumed the Hsync and Vsync signals would be twice the rate, but with 2 pixels per clock I assumed the pixel clock would remain at 119MHz. Any insight? (nVidia Quadro5000)
I know that the NEW series of the I7 came out and labeled 2600 but then what are the different "levels" of the 2600 I7 Processor? trying to buy the BEST desktop for under $1000 with an I7 and thinking that Costco might offer me the most???
I have all my volume levels maxed out however the volume meter only fills about 10-15% of the scale. I've tried for hours to fix this to no avail. When I click "Test speakers" the sound levels are fine, only for that.
Things I've tried:
Updating Drivers Reinstall windows. Reinstall windows on a different HDD. Tried multiple audio devices, exact same problem with on board sound and with my sound card. Tried changing the quality of the sound to DVD, CD, Studio etc, same problem with all options. Disabling onboard sound in the BIOS, still same problem with my sound card. Updating BIOS
I'm all out of ideas, nothing I do seems to fix it. I'm gonna try install windows 8 on another HDD soon and see if the same problem is present there.

UPDATE It seems to be only with "System Sounds" and Video Games, Steam etc.
I'm using a Fujitsu S6520 that I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Professional (32 bit). The fujitsu comes with 8 preset screen backlight levels that can be adjusted via the fn key on the keyboard. Prior to this, I was using Windows XP on the same computer, and I used to set the backlight at level 3. After upgrading to Windows 7, even level 2 is too bright (it is slightly higher than level 3 on windows xp even), and level 1 is too dark. The jump is drastic. Oddly, when I am in BIOS mode, the backlight levels work fine. The jumps are gradual, and like how it was in Windows XP, level 3 is a comfortable level. I notice that I can control the backlight via Windows Mobility Centre. But even there, the levels along the slider are preset. The lowest backlight is 1, the 2nd is 15, 3rd is 29 and so on. If there is a way that I could reduce backlight level 2 on my computer to around 10 or 11 in Windows Mobility Centre, that would be perfect.
I am trying to transfer my band's backing tracks from a Sony MiniDisc Player to my new IdeaPad y550 (Windows 7) using 1/8" stereo jacks from the MiniDisc Player to the stereo mic in on the laptop. My record levels are fine (optimum) but playback of the file results in considerably lower volume. The VU meters during playback are at the levels I recorded but actual audio volume is much lower.Same problem regardless of the software I am using (Sound Recorder, CakeWalk, WavePro, etc.) so I am hoping it is some global setting I can't find...
Just had my PC converted from Vista 64bit to Windows 7 and suddenly have no sound. Checked 'Device Manager' and updated driver and this indicates all is well, but still no sound. I have also checked to make sure volume levels are good and that there is nothing muted:
my problem is, the 'low ink' light on my Epson Stylus CX4300 is already blinking and i can't seem to know which cartridge is in low ink status. if one of those cartridges got empty, i won't be able to print anymore. what should i do? i've already tried updating the drivers but the ink level status won't show up. this is what appears:
i also tried clicking the 'update to latest version' but this is what appears:
I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.
First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.
A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)
I have a USB Microphone, a Samson C01U. I also have a regular microphone, which I plug into the audio jack. The microphone that's plugged into the audio jack shows up correctly in the levels tab of my speaker's properties. I can mute/unmute it, and adjust the volume that I hear it in my speakers. My USB Microphone however, does not. Is there anyway I could get it to work that way and hear it in my speakers? Because I know that if I just use "listen to this device", there will be severe audio delay between when I speak and when I hear it.
I have some senile parents and no matter how many times I try to explain why their mail is at 2pt font they always end up with the same "problem" after a month or 2.
Is there anyway to disable zooming abilities in windows 7? They most often find a way to zoom out to the tiniest possible font in outlook and browser. Would be awesome if there is some kinda system wide setting that I could have them disable this
I just returned my failing GPU and replaced it with a new one, still the same brand but with a working fan.I wanted to hear from you guys some tips on how to prevent my GPU from failing again.
I have a Windows 7 workstation that people connect to remotely via LogMeIn.I recently decided to move it to my home LAN, because it has faster Internet than work LAN. My home LAN has many personal computers on it, with file and printer sharing enabled. Most of these shares are not password protected for convenience. So the problem is that this workstation is able to see and connect to personal computers. I do not want this. I've temporarily password protected as many shares as I could, but it's not a permanent solution because it's a big family, and there are many computers, and I probably missed some. Unfortunately I can't use that Windows 7 homegroup sharing feature because more than half of the computers are Linux or Macs or Windows XP.I've researched the ports used by Windows File sharing, and made an Access Control policy in my router to block IP and Port ranges specifically for this workstation, to try and prevent it from discovering my other computers, but it did not help. I suspect this network access policy only applies to IPs and Port ranges on the Internet, not on the LAN. (btw router is D-Link DGL-4300)I'm looking for some solution either by tweaking settings in the workstation to make it blind, or making some changes with the networking gear.
I'm in project to build an i-cafe software for my own i-cafe. I need the code to prevent windows 7 for shutdown if my application still running. My current code work fine in windows xp without any problem, but not in vista and 7.
Here in our office network most users have to have admin access to run certain applications. I am wanting to prevent these admin accounts from further installing applications, etc. Is there an easy way to accomplish this using group policy, applocker or the like?.
I double click an icon to load an application. It would take it ten seconds to load. In the mean time I'd like to continue working on something else, but this app keeps popping top most windows and stealing my keyboard focus. Can I set win 7 somehow that an application would never be able to steal focus unless I switch to it?
I have a Logitech M570 trackball mouse, which Windows calls "HID-compliant mouse". I have already unchecked the box in device manager, with no luck. Even a slight scroll will wake my computer, which is very annoying.
