How To Make Windows Media Player Stop Updating Media Every Freaking Time Start It Up

Dec 22, 2010

How can I make Windows Media Player stop updating media every freaking time I start it up? It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.

Media Player Crashes Computer Playing CD

Oct 28, 2009

So I have been trying to play/rip this CD I just got, but I have been having no luck at all. It will start playing the song, and continue playing the whole song, but the rest of the computer crashes so I am forced to restart. I don't get why one program would crash the whole computer like that.

I've also tried to rip the CD, and it would rip about 4 tracks and then the computer would crash and it would stop. Anyone having a similar problem or know how to fix this one? It is an imported Japanese CD by the way, not sure if that matters or not.

No Sound When Playing DVDs In Media Player

Dec 8, 2009

I've got full sound in everything else and the latest sound blaster drivers. I insert a DVD and play it in Windows Media Player or Center and I get no Audio (*shakes head).

I play the DVD in VLC and it plays and sounds fine, but the Quality of the DVD video in VLC blows.

What's the fix (and why does there need to be a fix) for Windows Media Player? You'd think Windows Media CENTER could at least play a DVD...

Media Center Not Playing DVDs Properly - Sound Issue

Dec 24, 2009

I have a problem with my Windows 7 Media Center. When I try playing a DVD on it (does for only some DVDs), it plays the background music and the video, just the voices are gone. I made sure it wasn't just the movie by enabling closed captioning and using a regular DVD player. On the regular DVD player, it ran with everything voices and all. Anyone know what could be wrong? I do have Home Premium so it shouldn't be the codecs I'd guess, but I'm new to this stuff.

Playing FLAC In WMP12 - How To Ensure Correct Version Of Media Server

Jan 1, 2012

I'm running Win 7 x64 with 32bit WMP12. I have FLAC showing with metadata and can play files locally. I have a Naim NDX Media Streamer and can not get FLAC to play through it via WMP - other files will. I understand that this may be connected to x64 not being compatible, so I have the x32 version running via a short cut to my desktop.WMP shows my streamer but when I try to play a file it just constantly looks for the streamer and never finds it. Any ideas where I might be going wrong?

PS: It works perfectly well with JRiver / My River or n Stream via my ipad. That with FLAC or .wav etc. So it appears to be related directly to WMP.

Windows 7 Hot Start/Media Buttons?

Since Windows 7 has been installed it has no function at all. When pressed it does not respond, is there a way to sort this so it launches Windows Media Player again or even iTunes?

Windows Media Center Has Taken Over PC - Generic Icons In Start Menu

Feb 19, 2012

I played some videos that I took with my camera and downloaded to PC, and now I have the following problems:

The videos opened up in Windows Media Player, apparently.
Played Ok.

But now, when I click on other Desktop icons having absolutely nothing to do with pix or video, Windows Media Center opens up. It's as if it has taken over my PC. Also, all my icons on the bottom left of my screen (the Start Menu I think it is called ?) now have generic icons. Also a bunch on my Desktop, but not all. Clicking on any of these also opens up the Windows Media Center. How do I get my normal looking icons to show again correctly, and operate correctly?

After running fine ever since I installed Win7 when it first became available, WMP now will not start. I have tried running the dll from the command box as an administrator. I have tried turning it on and off in the features section of the Control Panel, and various other twists. Is this a recognized problem? Is there a reason why this occurs? (Windows update, incompatible software?)

Windows Media Player 12 In Windows 7 Won't Start

Dec 24, 2011

Computer: HP Pavilion g6 notebook,
Windows 7 Home

When I first got this computer Windows Media Player worked okay.I got several BSOD and after tech support, many tests, phone calls, etc., I sent it in to be repaired. They replaced the RAM memory. Sometime during all those problems Windows Media Player stopped working, even the desktop icon changed. Got my computer back now and want to fix the WMP. I've searched the forums and have tried the media feature approach several times. But, each time if get an error message "failure config. window features, revert back to original."So, that doesn't seem to work. Also tried something called sfc /scannow, and that didn't do anything.

Change Default Media Player / Icons On Media Files Not Changed

They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

Use 64bit Media Center With 32bit Media Player?

Jul 25, 2011

I'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.
