Player Won't Finalize DVD-RW
Oct 5, 2011
Why my HP G62 with a DVD drive will format CD-RW but not DVD-RW, and if so could they please tell me how to get it to do so? I got the title wrong - it should read format not finalize. I'm brand new to the forum and to computing.

I have used my PC (Acer aspire 5810TZG -Windows 7) to place some video on the DVD-RW. It plays ok on the PC but not on a DVD player (I had chosen the burn option where the intention was to mainly play it on a DVD player). I thought the problem might be that the disc needed to be finalized but there is no option to do that on the DVD drive options menu. I read that I need to go to "Start" - "Computer" - Highlight DVD drive click on "complete the session" (on toolbar). No such wording appears on my screen!

I just burned a DVD and there is no close session option available, in the global settings its set to close session when disc is ejected, but after it burned I can still add files to it.
On the toolbar the only options are to Organize and Burn to disc. When I right click the DVD from My Computer there is no option to close the session, but I can burn to disc and format. Just to be clear the files ARE burnt already, they are not waiting to be written. My DVD burner is a "PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17B ATA Device" on a HP Pavillion dv6000. Also every time I open a writing session a hidden file named "desktop" appears and is waiting to be written, I forgot the filetype but when opened with notepad it reads

I wanted to ask if it is possible to set Windows media player to open as the default player inside media center. The reason that I ask this is that I find media center sound is very low quality. I am using it inside windows 7 ultimate X64. I also use Media Browser and have set it to use media player as an external player but it loses some functionality after something is played I have to restart media center and media Browser to play anything again because it will go back to menus but not play anything untill

I have excellent reviews of VLC from other people who have used it. I used it more the Windows Media Player or Media Center. I avoid Media Center all together for other reasons. But I have other video formats (.mkv, .mp4, .flv, .webm, .mov) and it seems like VLC can handle them all. Any one else have any other opinions or options for someone like me who uses multiple video file formats other than just .avi?

I have just bought a new Ivy bridge PC with a blu ray drive. I thought that it would be simply a matter of inserting the film blu ray and the same would run. However I believe that windows 7 does not support blu ray play function.in getting software which runs blu ray discs. If anyone has any experience of running such software, your comments will be gratefully received

I had to change out my HD and when I did that, I also changed my os to windows 7. I used to be able to use my cd/dvd player but since the upgrade, I can not use my cd/dvd player. I have to open it up manually with a paperclip, and I see there is power to the player but it doesn't play nor does my computer recognize the drive?

Here is what is going on. I plug in the MP3 player, does not matter which port, and when I go to "My Computer" to click on the drive to get the music files it comes up with error message "G: is not accessible. Access denied."
I have tried going to properties and configuring security options, but there is nothing with "security" or related to that. I am already logged in as Admin, there is also no "run as admin" either.

I'm a new Windows 7 user. I have a Coby 1GB mp3 player that I've been using as a thumb drive for years since the buttons on it broke off. I've put all kinds of files on it from documents to picture files. Yesterday I brought home my new netbook running Windows 7 Starter.. I took the mp3 player and plugged it in the USB port. Windows 7 recognized it with no problem.. but to my surprise, it doesn't show the files on it. So I tried to put files on it.. and it doesn't seem to allow anything but music files (MP3's) to be put on it. It's very odd because my Windows XP desktop computer allowed me to use it as a basic thumb drive and it accepted all types of files to be put on it.. not just MP3s.Is there a setting on Windows 7 that would allow me to use the MP3 player like a regular USB flash drive as I did on my XP system?

I get a notice that there are updates for Quicktime, so I tell it to go ahead and it always fails with an error that says Getlasterror 5:Today I decided to fix this so I did some research and found that it's a fairly common problem.I didn't find any really concise answer, but Microsoft said to install a registry entry that adds the command "Grant Admin Full Control" to the right click drop down.I did that, it will be interesting to see if that works for some other access problems. However it didn't do anything for Quicktime. It will not let me uninstall the old version and it won't let me install the new version.I always get the Getlasterror 5, error which is caused by Windows not allowing the process to complete.Any one else run into this.I have seen posts that say to physically delete the Quicktime software but I don't really want to do that, I'm afraid I'll end up with no working version.I'm open to suggestions, this isn't a big deal, because the older version is installed and working. The same thing happens when trying to update ITunes, so it's and Apple, Windows thing. These over the top security issues are the only thing that really bugs me about Windows 7, I've been dealing with these ever since I started running it in beta.

I just purchased DVD +R DVDs to put photos on, that I want to be able to play on a Panasonic DVD Player. The literature indicates that it will play DVD +R that has been finalized. I tried using the Windows DVD Maker and adjusted the speed to medium. and I also tried using the media center. The DVDs are not recognized on the Player. I did select the finish button while burning but what else am i supposed to do to close the dvd? the dvd burner is a blu ray and while it is capable of lightscribe i bought single layer dvds.
