PC Randomly Won't Boot Windows 7?

Aug 17, 2011

About 30% of the time that I try to start my computer, it won't load windows 7, or it loads it extremely slowly (15-20 minutes). Once the computer is loaded into windows, it's fine - no noticeable performance change. In fact, i've recently benchmarked some different games on the computer, and it benchmarks exactly the same as before the problem started. I've done multiple system repairs, and I'm going to back my files up to an external hard drive this afternoon and do a clean reinstall.

Windows 7 Shuts Off Randomly, 'Boot Disk Failure' Upon Restart

Aug 29, 2012

Running Win7 64 bit, built this computer back in December, has worked flawlessly until now. Last few days - operates fine for an hour or so, then freezes, goes black, crashes and reboots itself, only to stop at the loading OS screen due to 'Boot Disk Failure' Happens regardless of what I am doing, or even if idle. Have updated windows, ran virus and malware scans.

GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD4 LGA 1155 (it was slightly bent on the end with the USB connectors and headphone jacks, but installed fine)
GIGABYTE GV-R697OC-2GD Radeon HD 6970
Antec EarthWatts Series EA-750 Green 750W
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
64 GB SSD
8 gigs Ram

All Critical errors are event 41, Kernal Power - but I'm sure thats from me hardbooting on the disk failure.

Turning Itself Off Randomly During Boot Up?

May 30, 2012

My father has a Toshiba Satellite P755-S5215 laptop with Windows 7 and an Intel inside Core i3 processor. It has occasionally had the issue of turning itself off randomly during boot up, upon logging on, or shortly after logging on. However, it has become much more chronic ever since I hooked it up to use the television to use as a monitor. I plugged it in using a 15-pin monitor cable. The computer was off when I plugged it in and when I removed it. I don't know for sure if the two events are related.

Computer Randomly Changes Hd Boot Order And Not Gets Booted

Jul 18, 2011

I replaced my motherboard and installed an Agility ssd for my boot drive. Every couple weeks, the computer won't boot. I go into the bios under "hard drive boot order" and find that one of my other hard drives is at the top of the hit parade. It even put my external drive as the boot drive one time. As soon as I switch my ssd to boot drive of course it boots up properly. Any ideas why it's doing this?

Drive Letter Randomly Changed, OS Won't Boot

I'm not sure what the trigger was but my C drive where my os is installed apparently took the drive letter of an external drive that I use for backup. It is now the X drive and I cannot boot. I do get the repair screen but cannot repair as there is no operating system to choose. Booting from windows disk makes no difference here.My bios (uefi) can see the disk, I can also see it from the command prompt?

Computer Boot Configuration Is Corrupt 0x460 And Randomly Shutting Down?

Feb 15, 2012

i hope im posting in the right place. For the past 3 weeks my computer has had me so frustrated i dont know what to do. First off it started off just randomly powering off. Which got worse and worse. So we took it apart and made sure everything was clean and dust free etc. Now its not powering off as much but its freezing. Freezing alot. When it freezes you cant do anything. No cntl alt delete, you cant even move the mouse. Its like complete freeze. Also everytime it freezes when i try to restart the computer it hangs in bios about 5 times until finally after restarting it 5 more times i can make it back into windows. It keeps doing it and i have tried almost everything i can think of. I know its not overheating because i have been checking the tempurture of everything on the computer everyday. Everything is running super cool.

PC Randomly Shuts Off And Randomly Boots Up After (sometimes)?

Mar 7, 2012

When the PC is on it will depending on how long its been on will randomy just shut off. When it shuts off, it "sometimes" reboots but most often it "tries" to reboot but fails and then stays off. After this failed try to reboot if I press the power button on the case and mobo, nothing. Now if I turn OFF the PSU leave it for a few minutes and come back turn the PSU switch on and press the power button the system comes to life for a second or two then dies and will no respond to the power buttons until I turn off the PSU again.I have gotten it up and running from this state by leaving it off and unplugged for a couple of hours. When I say the PC comes to life for a second or two, I mean the case fans. If I get it booted up the BIOS is reset to default for some reason. Also if it makes it to windows, the notification area icons also gets reset... very very odd.I have a short video of the problem, sorry for the darkness, I finally decided to video it and it was 11pm.PSU dying or Mobo. I dont have extra's so I cant test them.Forgot to mention, ive checked for heat problems but none of my temps are high, they are all normal and its a Antec 1200 with tons of air movement.Event Viewer shows nothing expect for unexpected shutdown. My event viewer is clean from any errors also. I do not get any BSOD and this is on a fresh Windows 7 install from late Jan.

Windows Using Up 11.4GB Of RAM Randomly

Feb 5, 2012

After a while of being logged in (around an hour or so) Windows will start randomly using up RAM, up to 11.4 gigabytes. When I look in the Task Manager there's literally nothing that even COULD be using up that much RAM. On idle it will use up 5gb and even that is much much more than all of the applications are using in total. Any media players I might want to use on my computer completely go haywire after the 11.4gb. MPC-HC will skip frames constantly with the audio also skipping, VLC will play the audio but not the video whereas both of these would play perfectly well when I first signed in. Browser players (flash basically) work perfectly fine though. When I play a certain game and shut it down everything goes completely insane.

If I play another game the fps will constantly stutter between a full 60fps (which is also my screen limit) and 48 causing the character to seemingly teleport every step instead of fluid walking. My browser will also do a sort of stuttering (Firefox) when scrolling, instead of sliding down the page it will skip a portion but it won't stop scrolling so instead of the "tom's hardware" logo shifting down it will just skip it and skip the next part and the next etc. Though this issue does effect browser players, it doesn't effect application players (VLC, MPC-HC). Except only video players will stutter and everything else (browsers, games, regular applications) will work fine.

MPC-HC's audio will skip and fall behind the video causing basically for the characters to be mouthing words the audio played 5 seconds ago. VLC will start skipping the video while the audio stays intact so when a frame gets stuck it will just skip ahead to where the audio is. Any of these usually occur somewhere between 30min-1hr after being signed in. Once it does I have to shut the computer down and boot it back up again for everything to work normally again. Unfortunately I can't find anything specifically on this that's proved useful (installing/uninstalling certain windows updates as well as checking AV and drivers, uninstalling things).

Windows Keeps Freezing Randomly?

Nov 18, 2012

Windows keeps randomly freezing, forcing a hard reboot and occasionally I get a BSOD too.

I think it might have something to do with the external devices i have connected to my laptop: an external monitor, and an external keyboard with trackpad and an external mouse. Both the keyboard and mouse are wireless and share the same single usb receiver dongle (logitech unifying receiver)

I think it might be the driver for the usb receiver dongle that's causing the problems based on the dump file i've pasted below. Anyone have any suggestions for remedying this short of getting rid of the mouse and keyboard? Both have the latest drivers.

Windows 7 Randomly Freezes?

May 17, 2010

The Problem: My windows 7 PC freezes (and stays frozen) at apparently random times. The computer will not respond to the mouse or keyboard. Keyboard lights are on, but the Caps Lock key will not light up. This has happened both on startup and while using the PC. If a sound is playing when it freezes, the note will keep repeating. If I have the Task ManagersPerformance tab up, I can see that the CPU activity graph is frozen as well. The only option I have is to hit the reset button. There are no errors presented. The Event Log does not show any specific error occurring at the time of the freeze. The Event log only shows errors and warnings about my having shut down the PC unexpectedly. Nothing to show it was frozen and non-responsive. I have made sure all drivers are up to date. Ran SFC - it reports all files are in order. My web searches have found similar issues occurring with other people, on this and on other forums. I tried various solutions proposed (changed antivirus program, set power to high performance ran a windows repair install, tested memory and video card) but none of this has helped so far.

Windows 7 Randomly Hangs?

May 9, 2009

I'm having random Windows 7 complete system hangs. They produce no errors or warnings in the log other than a notice of an incomplete shutdown. I'm using the intel chipset driver for Vista with the system, and the Realtek HD audio driver for vista with it (this was happening before that driver being installed) and everything else is the default windows 7 driver, it's guaranteed to happen on Skype starting up with a lot of unread events, and copying a file to the desktop with Filezilla, but sometimes it's just random. Complete freeze, no mouse, no keyboard, no ctrl+alt+del Here's my computer specs:

Windows 7 RC (7100) x64
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16 GHz (was overclocked to 3.51 during install, is now reduced to stock, problem remains)
ATI Radeon 4650 HD 1 GB version
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L motherboard (Intel ICH10 chipset)
6 GB of DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM
a 640 GB WD Caviar Green HDD (SATA slave, not boot drive)
a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda GT 7200.11 (SATA master boot drive)
Sony DVD-RAM drive

Linksys PCI 802.11G wireless adapter (using 64 bit ralink drivers since the chipset matches, no prior issues when used on Windows 7 7000) Being through, I ran stress testers on maximum load on each hardware component, no crash on full CPU load, no crash on HDD load test, both drives and no crash on high RAM usage.I also remember similair symptoms on Vista, but this also did not happen iirc on Windows 7 7000.The system was overclocked during install, I reset the BIOS to "optimised defaults" after a few crashes, no difference.

Windows 7 Randomly Locking Up

Jun 12, 2011

this problem started yesterday, randomly last night my Computer just locked up, out of nowhere, couldn't click anything, mouse icon was gone, keyboard unresponsive when I pushed caps lock the LED didn't change and ctrl+alt+del did nothing either, had to hold down my power button and restart that way, when I did restart however everything was fine again.

Then today, I'm on my computer for 4-5 hours, I get this random lock up again, so I restart everythings fine...then an hour later, I get it again.

I haven't installed any new software recently, I did install the new windows update AFTER the lockups today though. I built my computer myself 1 year ago the specs are as such

CPU: i7-930
RAM: 6GB DDR3 1600MHZ Tri-Chan Corsair XMS3
PSU: 650W Corsair HX
Mobo: P6X58D-E
GFX: Radeon HD 5770 XFX 1GB

I'm not hearing any weird sounds when the system locks up (no beeping or anything to indicate any hardware issues) and it's 100% not a heating problem as on stress test my CPU/GFX doesn't go over 50/52 @ 100% for around 2 hours.

Windows 7 Hangs Randomly?

Jul 1, 2011

I've had my new computer since February and haven't had any major problems with it whatsoever. However, theres one little annoying thing; randomly, the computer will hang/freeze.I first noticed this when iTunes stopped playing music - it had frozen and I noticed the LED light on the desktop was completely lit and wasn't flashing at all, as if it was doing something really big. When it happens, normally I try and open Task Manager to see which program is using up the most Memory but Task Manager only opens when the computer has unfrozen and music has started playing again.I can continue browsing on whatever Internet page I am on also, so the whole computer hasn't frozen but sometimes when I try and see if I can open other programs via the Taskbar, the timer appears next to the mouse. These hangs happen completely randomly; its only ever done it once during a day but sometimes it can go quite a few days before it does it again and the hangs only last for a few seconds, once or twice though it has lasted for a few minutes.

The common thing is normally it happens when i'm playing music via iTunes and I only notice its frozen because music has stopped playing and iTunes becomes unresponsive, so i'm thinking it could be iTunes causing the lag as it can freeze quite a bit normally anyway (I have made sure though i got the 64-bit version).I think once it happened when I wasn't playing any music, but iTunes was still open. Its not a virus/malware/etc... and I've checked the Event Viewer directly after a freeze to see if any error was reported
when the issue occured but nothing.

Windows 7 Restarting Randomly

My computer just turn off as if I had a power-loss and then turn on again. The strange is that it's totally random. I can play games for more than 2 hours ou run a stress test for 3 hours without restarting but I can turn on the computer and when browsing the internet for 5 minutes it will restart. I have made a lot of research on the internet but didn't any relevant information but a PSU problem.

Windows 7 Pro X64 Randomly Freezing?

Apr 18, 2012

My computer screen is freezing once a day or so without any BSODs whatsoever. The funny thing is that everything else is running in the background, including the system clock, music from WMP, and even a video game CD I popped in when it was frozen, which launched like normal, but was unable to do anything because the mouse and keyboard were unresponsive. When it freezes, I hit the power button once and it shuts down like normal too. Even when I put the computer to sleep during the freeze, it wakes up normally and it works just fine again! All my drivers are up to date, so what can the problem be? I also tested the hardware with Dell Support Center tools and everything checks out fine.

Remember, everything else is running in the background just as it should, including the clock which still keeps time correctly. The screen looks fine too with everything being displayed clearly and crisply, with no artifacts or lines or anything.I was also working on a paper for class when it froze, and the funny thing is that when I hit the power button to shut my pc down, it was prevented from doing so because MS Word itself was asking me if I wanted to save the document, which means other processes were running, but I couldn't save because the mouse and keyboard were frozen, so I had to hold the power button until it shut off. Luckily I didn't lose much progress at all because I saved it just a few minutes before.his is a really perplexing situation.
