"Open Windows Explorer" On Start Button Is Not Working
Mar 17, 2010
When I right-click the Start button and select "Open Windows Explorer", nothing happens.Using the Windows Explorer link in the Start Menu or anywhere else works fine...Where are the settings for that "Open Windows Explorer" option stored?
I searched all over the web including this forum and nothing, sfc /scannow didn't work. There has to be some registry key that is missing or i need to modify.
my windows button work but it does not do the shortcuts that it used to do earlier??? like windows + 1,2,3,4 etc not working. i have a packard bell easynote TX86
On windows 7 64 bit the start button(orb) does not load Right click does? I have scanned for viruses and restarted in last good configuration When I reboot I get one go at the start button and it works but never again I use a Toshiba Qosmio laptop.
I have tried and set the menu properties back to the default settings and it still doesnt work. I've looked up if there could be another problem and found out it may be a problem with the registry, however i can't get into the start menu and run the elevated command prompt so i can check it and make sure.
Yesterday my girlfriend asked me to look at her computer because her start button wasn't working and when I checked it, I confirmed this to be true. Neither the orb, nor the windows key activates the start menu. When I click it, the highlight flashes on it for a second but then nothing actually launches.
recently I used a software AVG PC Tuneup and it has never been a problem for me until a couple of days ago when I decided to install it on my DELL. Now, I went to system advisory and did a system scan on recommended settings, I pressed 'fix selected' and my Wifi was disabled, I tried everything. I can't get my wifi to work without plugging in my modem directly ot my pc. I noticed my wifi radio was disabled, so I pressed the F2 button but nothing worked. I am trying to re enable my wifi radio / wireless radio connection button but it won't work.
My program intel my wifi utility tells me my wifi is disabled but I can't enable it.

I want to add a button that creates a new text document and put it next to the New Folder button in Windows 7, so that clicking it will give me the same result as right-clicking in the folder and choosing New>Text Document.
I have read this page: Add a Custom Command Button to the Windows 7 Explorer Toolbar - Windows 7, Explorer toolbar, FolderTypes, command bar, custom button, RegEdit, registry, jscript, Dan Rollins
and this page: Adding custom buttons to the Explorer command bar winJade
So ive got the button appearing, and i can get it to open the actual program Notepad, but not create a new text document inside the folder. I dont know if its just a variable i need to add onto the command line "c:windowssystem32 otepad.exe", or its a different command altogether..
We are creating an image for our company and would like to incorporate a different start button if we can.We do not want a third party program that can change it.
possible to move the start button from the left handside to the righthand side without moving the taskbar (windows 7 pro). I have tried searching for the solution myself online but no luck
windows 7 start button cant be extended to where it says start in white letters and looks like the xp one can someone do a simple windows file 3rd party mod to allow that and then get the xp start button for me this seems like alot but i really want to go back to xp.
I recently upgraded my FF 7.0.1 (or whatever the most up-to-date version of 7 is/was) to 8.0 and am noticing an issue. The problem I am experiencing is that when I launch FF (regardless if its done via the start menu or the button pinned to my taskbar), it adds a separate taskbar button (a la previous versions of Windows) instead of how Windows 7 normally handles such things. In addition to this, it also does not reflect having multiple tabs/windows open on the taskbar button (the attached image shows how the button for IE(9) displays the different tabs I have open in it, as well as the vertical lines next to the button which represent the number of tabs/windows open; however, the Firefox button does not function in either way, but you can see in the image that I have 3 tabs open in the browser window). Are these compatibility bugs between Windows 7 and Firefox (that the Mozilla devs need to address)?
I am facing problem in my Window 7 display due to my kid accident click the setting change (I don't know how they change) that cause the "start" button change from icon to the word "Start" with window image, also my font seem to be smaller than previous, did any senior can help me to restore to the normal view
I have been having a Windows 7 issue for a week now. Last week, my desktop computer had the "blue screen of death" and it sort of fixed itself and rebooted, and it seemed to be working again. However, in the past 2 days, everytime I turn on the computer, and then when the desktop pops up, and I click the start menu button, the whole desktop freezes and I can't click anywhere else. I tried going on safe mode and do a system restore, but the choices of time to reset my computer was still after the blue screen of death. It's really frustrating, because I can't turn my computer off properly anymore cause it just freezes, I can't backup my files, because it's frozen, and I can't backup in safe mode.
I have a Toshiba Satallite with Windows 7 installed. I now have no start button, windows task bar and all of my desktop icons have gone missing.
When I restart the laptop (via CTRL + ALT + DEL) I see all of the missing items listed for about 10 seconds...then they all disappear. What I have left is my personalised background image (my cute 2 month old nephew with my sunglasses) and a windows explorer window. Nothing else.
So far I have managed to access my Virus protection software (AVG) and run a scan. It didn't find anything. I ran my spyware application (Spybot Search and Destroy) again nothing.
what I can do to get my laptop back to a usable state?
I have a new laptop I've owned since Fall. Its specs are provide below. A while ago its volume adjustment buttons (fn + volume up or down) stopped working. I've been using the desktop toolbar to adjust the sound which is of course very inconvenient. Now in the last week, the volume icon will not show up in the toolbar and I have to reboot often to get it to show, even though the icon and notification are both enabled.I have run malware bytes and super anti-spyware and the latter removed some malware. I just bought a Gateway computer yesterday with Windows 7 preinstalled on it, and last night I tried to wake it from sleep but when I did, it didn't show the taskbar, icons or start button. All I could see was the background. I tried the "ctrl+shift+esc" method to fix it, but when I hit those keys nothing happened. I'm at a loss, and I don't want to return the computer!
Running Windows 7 HP with SP1 on an HP p6230 desktop computer with an AMD Phenom II.When I click on the Start button nothing happens. The Windows desktop is not frozen since I can activate any of the icons including those on the taskbar. It's just the Start button that will not respond
At first I thought it was kinda of interesting but later I realized it was going to drive me nuts not having it there. (It still works, I just click on the blank spot) I don't how it happened, my guess is my wife did something....she only uses it for facebook and myspace. And I just found out that it only disapears when i change the taskbar's settings to auto-hide.I sniped a pic of it.
Occasionally, when on a web page with pictures/video/flash, the screen will "freeze" and have some random colored pixels appear or sometimes it will just go black. Sometimes when this happens the whole system will remain locked. Other times it will recover and I will get a notification balloon saying the the graphics driver has stopped and recovered from an error. I've looked for answers to this on the web and I have seen reference to it being caused by a Windows timeout waiting for a response from the video card. Is there a way to modify (extend) the timeout value to try to prevent this? I have the latest drivers. In my case the graphics card is NVidea Quadro FX 1800M on a Dell Precision M4500 notebook (8G RAM). OS: Win 7 Enterprise 64-bit.
