I've removed some services and applications and I reduced my usage by about 130mb of ram but is 800mb fairly normal for a laptop running Windows 7? If not what can I do to reduce this even more?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with running certain apps with admin privilege.I have installed Notepad++ which i use for my .js files.Now here's what's happening: When im editing a file which is located in the programfiles folder, it wouldn't allow me to save it. I can only save it if i close the app, give it admin privilege(right click->compatibility->check run as admin).This is fine with me. But if i do that, another issue pops up. I am then not able to open files in notepad++ via the context menu. neither can i drag drop the file onto notepad++.

I have used a power option to hibernate/shutdown my desktop after (say) 2 hours. This works correctly so that the system does not shutdown automatically when I am running interactive applications. At least one scheduled weekly task (McAfee virus scan) can take many hours and I normally run it overnight. But when it is the only task running, the PC hibernates (apparently after the prescribed interval) even though the application is still running.
I do not want to change my power settings to prevent automatic hibernation completely or to lengthen the interval meaninglessly. So: Is there any other way to ensure that the virus scan is allowed to complete before the system hibernates? During a scheduled scan, McAfee has an option to run "in the background". Would cancelling that option have the desired effect?
I recently built a great system. It has the following specs:
Core i5 2500k 3.3GHz
Radeon HD 6790 1GB
8 GB of Corsair C9 kit of memory
PH67S-C43 (B3) motherboard from MSI.
Caviar Black 750gb
Greenpower 1TB
The only problem is, it runs very slowly in some applications such as Firefox and Minecraft. I've installed all drivers listed on the MSI website as well as my GPU drivers. Still no luck. I've installed Steam, microTorrent, Microsoft Security Essentials, Java (x64), Adobe Flash, and Adobe Reader X.
I am having an unexpected shutdown when i run loaded applications like games and all that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically, I noticed my CPU temps rising recently when idle. I looked in my task manager and it says that my CPU usage is at 45% which is shouldn't be when I have nothing open. I don't remember it being like that before. I ran a virus scan with MalwareBytes Antimalware program and it removed 4 trojans but yet my CPU usage is still the same. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem that doesn't involve reinstalling windows? I checked my processes and didn't notice anything acting out except for maybe a svchost.exe using up a bit more than it would normally.

I tried installing a 64 bit Windows 7 on 32 bit processor(Dual Core, 2.80HGHz) having a DDR RAM of 2.5GB. But I could not do so due to 'Hardware Incompatibility'.I then tried to install a 32 bit-Windows7 Home premium, but again the same 'Hardware Incompatibility' appears on screen and prevents the installation.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI use my laptop to dj with 4 nights a week so as you can imagine it is very important to me and a vital part of my income. a few weeks ago i had an issue where i had somehow picked up a virus and it forced me to do a complete format and reinstall of windows. however since then it has been running very hot and cpu usage has gone through the roof.
all drivers and bios are up-to date and the laptop is fully optimised for audio processing.
the specs are as follows:
hp g62 450sa
i3 2.27ghz
8gb ram
60gb ocz vertex ssd (with os on)
500gb 7200rpm hdd in drive bay (music only)
i have read that another complete reinstall may fix the problem, which i am prepared to do.. however onto the next problem, i left a cd walled in a club last week which had my recovery discs in it, when i went back the next week it was gone!!
how to get around or sort this, or is there anywhere that i can download a copy of the install discs. i have spoken with microsoft and they are willing to re-authorise my product key when i re-install.
I have this HP HDX18 laptop for almost 2.5 years now. It came with Vista 64 bit installed which was later upgraded to 7 Home premium. It worked fine until Jan 2012 when it started slowing down to nothing. I got it checked and cleaned by the tech support for HP(pccare247) and also updated the drivers for sound, display and BIOS. Now the system runs fine until any media played whether offline or online. After that it slows down to nothing and the sound becomes crackling and also with a delay and distortion. The system slow down and the crackling sound does not come at the beginning and when it happens the CPU usage reaches 100% and stays above 90% until that multimedia is turned off. Also, the memory usage reaches 2.7 GB out of 8 GB and never comes below 2.16GB. What I noticed is as soon as I turn the WMPlayer off the CPU usage comes down all of a sudden to 15-20% and after sometime stays between 1-5% but the memory usage never comes down from 2.16, that is the minimum.

View 11 Replies View Relatedi was looking at a Internet video of how to use hjt and it said to checkmark everything and hit fix; my computer was running perfectly fine 2 weeks ago with games running at 30 fps and really little lag but suddenly has been running extremely slow with long wait times and 2 fps so i decided to follow the video. after hitting fix everything my computer seems to be running a bit better but i'm not exactly sure if anything has been fixed. now my concern is: should i restore back to before i 'fixed' everything?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy issue is that my fan runs very loudly and does not turn off during idle/slow periods. I downloaded the speedfan program and this is how it looks currently. [URL]I don't think the difference between idle and running Chrome + Steam in the background would be enough to matter, so i'm not in a completely idle mode now. This is essentially my constant setup.I'm rather inept when it comes to these things so i'm really not sure if this is even a problem or not. I know that cpu fans are always running, but i can't imagine 2800-2900 rpm being an idle speed. My temperatures are stable(as far as i know) and they only get to about 45% during heavier cpu usage. I cleaned out the dust in the system, but i think i may have missed the heatsink or whatever itself.I have also heard that doing a disk cleanup and defragmentation can solve the issue of a fan running constantly, however, doing that did not seem to help.

If I keep using it, the memory usage will slowly increase until it reaches 99%. If I boot up the machine and just leave it there for a couple of hours, the same happens.I try to restart (via windows), it logs off, shuts down the system, the coolers keep spinning, the motherboard lights are still on, but it doesn't boot up again. It remains like that. I have to restart via reset button or power button.

My Audiodg.exe process is currently using 2,786,070 kB (not just normal bytes, kilobytes) of Ram. 2.66gb+ of Ram! I have searched the web as well as this site for any problems. My audio is working fine though... I have no idea why this using so much ram. Im guessing a memory leak of some kind... I restartand it starts off at a normal pace...

I'm just installed windows 7 on my 2009 imac through bootcamp. However there are some problems. Ive noticed when i try to play something on windows media player it will tell me that my computer is running low on memory and to close some windows. Also games run poorly if at all. I suspect its a driver issue but have gone through all the auto updates etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAs I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.

Whenever I certain gaming program run in the background (not in focus) the applications seem to shift back and forth from from "Running" and "Not Responding" almost like it constantly refreshes itself (every 3 or so seconds). However, if I keep one of those programs in focus, the problem doesn't occur as often. View 1 Replies View RelatedOn some nights my computer works perfectly fine, I can surf the net without incident, open applications, play games etc and everything appears to be fine.Then there are the other nights (which are increasing in frequency) where the computer boots up fine but then I run into application after application which refuses to load - I will click on the application and the "loading" icon will appear on screen and then just stay there.The only way out is to cntrl-alt-delete and bring up task manager, but this can also then refuse to either load or - if it does - will not respond when I click on the first offending application in an attempt to close that down.I also noticed on the last few nights that when trying to start a particular game clicking on the icon would appear to have activated nothing - yet when I attempted to start it again I would get a message saying that I couldn't start the game until the one I had running had been shut down - but nothing appeared to be running.My computer was built in January of this year. I have regularly run disk cleanups etc and run virus checks at least once a week and nothing shows up.
