View 7 RepliesMy current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have built a computer almost exactly to the one that they had built for Jeff on Tested.com. Everything seemed to install fine and run smoothly. Recently, I have been getting BSODs and they seem to be somewhat random. Usually when I am watching movies/streaming online/listening to music in Zune or iTunes. I don't really understand why this is happening. I have been looking around the internet and many people say that memory could be the problem but I have tested it with the windows memory test tool, all results have come back with no errors. I for some reason cannot Memtest to run.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to build an inexpensive but not junk computer. AMD was suggested to me and it sounds good but I have no source of information except from you folks.Could you help me find an inexpensive motherboard for this CPU? On board audio and video would be ideal and USB 3.0 and maximum of 8Gb of memory is a must. What confuses me is that the CPU calls itself AM3 but when I do a search I only find AM3+. I'm not a computer dummy but I'm not up on AMD.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just built a new computer for my inlaws and had several BSODs with different bccodes (1, 1a, a). I formatted and reinstalled the OS, updates, as well as clean installs of all recent drivers downloaded from the manufacturer websites. I have had several BSODs after this and I am worried that it may be related to the memory I have installed.
I ran a full disk scan, as well as SeaTools short and long tests. These were all passed with no errors. Also, I have updated the bios to the most recent, reseated ram, unplugged/replugged all sata and power cables inside. Specs are as follows:
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
CPU: AMD Phenom II 555 3.2Ghz Quad Core
Motherboard: Asus M4A785-M onboard sound, video, wired lan
Memory: G.Skill 4GB DDR2-800 (2x2gb) F2-6400CL5D-4GBNT
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 320gb SATA2
I just put together my new computer and I started getting a few different BSOD's. The mostrecent was a Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area. A memory management one happened yesterday also. I'll include the dump files so someone can check them out

I was told that I need to have my event log cleaned up (those that show crtiical error more than anything else) so that it would not fill up and cause a computer crash? I have never heard this before for a home computer.

Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, all of a sudden, my sound has left my computer. I am not sure why but I think it began after a recent update. Down in the lower left hand corner the sound emblem now shows a red circle with a white X in the middle (meaning NO SOUND) The message I get when I run the mouse over the speaker is " No SPEAKERS OR HEADPHONES ARE PLUGGED IN". My son has tried reinstalling the driver for a new sound card. STILL NO SOUND
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a strange problem with my laptop. i have no sound on my computer, and if i click the volume button on the toolbar, i get the swirling mouse pointer, and it will say "volume mixer is not responding".another aspect of this problem is i cant load videos. say if i go to Internet, the homepage will load, but as soon as one of the advertisement videos start loading, the browser freezes and stops responding. (you may be wondering why i would watch videos with no sound, but actually this is usually how i notice this problem has started.)i have done a system restore a couple of times, and everything runs fine for a few days. but soon after, the problem will be back randomly when i boot my laptop up. i've tried running a virus scan and came up with 0 threats.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have an old computer running intel dq965gf mobo. recently, I upgraded it from windows vista 32bit to windows 7 64bit. i plugged the speakers in the right way, but the computer couldn't detect them. than i downloaded the driver for my mobo, and it showed like everything is working fine, but no sound came out. i've already tried different speakers and headphones. after searching on google i found that i may need SigmaTEL audio driver. so i downloaded it and tried to install after uninstalling the intel driver, but an error message came saying "device isn't present. restart your computer and try again. i restarted my pc and tried again, but the error message came again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo my speakers decided to not work after I unplugged them and then plugged them back in. I have read countless forums and have: updated my graphics driver, checked to make sure it is plugged in correctly, and configured many settings. It is not a problem with the speakers because I have gone and bought new ones that do work with my super old toshiba. This has to be a problem with the P.C. that I cannot figure out. I was using old dell speakers before and am using bose speakers now. My headset will play sound if this helps. I am using an asus p9 x79 motherboard with a geforce 550 ti graphics card.
